  • Did you know that nearly half of all van owners are not properly insured or don't have their van fully covered?
Finding insurance that fully covers the cost of your Sprinter can be extremely difficult, even insuring an empty cargo Sprinter has proven to be tricky.
In this video, we in depth on insurance and share some of the best practices we've learned over the years.

I used GEICO for 25 years with multiple vehicles. I called them in 2019 to ensure my new Mercedes 2500 170 van. I told them my intent was to build a camper van. It took me about 4 years to get it where I considered it complete( driveway , weather, etc. ). Anyway , GEICO called me and asked if I had built out the Van. They asked if it had a bed, toilet, kitchen, etc. I said yes and they cancelled my insurance. 25 years multiple vehicles with zero claims and dropped with no negotiation. So I went to State Farm and they covered it all no problem including the additional value for the van build. So all of our vehicles are now with State Farm.

Perfect timing for this video. Took delivery this past Thursday on a 2021- 4500 Chevy cutaway frame with an 18' box that was built to FedEx's specifications that was never issued out. Had 130 miles on it (sat for two years in the motor pool) when I drove it off the dealers' lot. Called my insurance agent for coverage & they still haven't figured how to write the policy. Kinda knows what I'm doing all day Tuesday 😵‍💫 Thanks for the insight.

How did you come across this box truck? That’s fascinating that it sat for two years… good luck with the insurance.

I own a 2023 Ford Transit High Roof Extended AWD that is currently sitting on a builder's lot awaiting its turn to be built into my home. State Farm had no problem insuring the van, and my agent told me that when I'm ready to pick it up, I should send her a copy of the invoice, a picture of the bathroom, my bed, and my cooking facilities. Since I will have a wet bath, a queen sized bed, and an RV gas range, I'm all set.

Thank you very much. My van is near completion through an independent company and was wondering about Roamly. I had no problem getting it insured by State Farm as a cargo van when originally purchased

Check with your agent. When I was originally exploring van life, my SF agent told me she didn't think she could issue a policy for a van as my home. When I actually bought my van, her tune had changed. She did initially tell me they were exploring getting into the van market.

After watching your video I called Roamly and got a stated value policy on my conversion van, I had a somewhat questionable policy with State Farm previously. Thank you!

Without specifics, general costs would be interesting, understanding the variables this would be of value.

State Farm wrote a stated value policy on my van. Super easy.

I lucked out with my DIY camper van. I use Amica for all our cars, they were great when I got my empty cargo van. They allowed me to increase the value as I added components to the van (batteries, hydronic heating system etc. I kept a spreadsheet and sent in pictures.

USAA will not insure Class A motorhomes. After 25 years as a customer, I left USAA for State Farm for all my liability insurance needs and saved a fair amount of money plus got a local agent.

Thanks for another Great video. My DIY Sprinter is insured with Progressive and I had No problems getting the full amount I was asking.
If you would like ideas for future video's, I have not found ANY for the setups of a Wakespeed WS-500 regulator or a REC-Active BMS.
Your video's for the Victron setups helped me so much!
    Thanks

One concern I've had with insurance companies is the possibility of a denied claim for damage that happened off-road. Of course with a sprinter van I'm not doing anything crazy like rock crawling. However there's always the possibility of a crunch or, heaven forbid, a rollover while on a National Forest dirt road. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Last year I contacted romely in the middle of my build. They informed me that they do not provide insurance for full-timers. They referred me to progressive. Do you have any updates? Do you know if they have changed this policy?

Good info, but have to unsubscribe from this channel. Getting spammed with dozens of notifications for YT shorts that are all the same topic. There were 25 notifications over the past few days for a total of 3 topics, insurance, DEF, and vanessentials. Don't mind notifications for a new post, but this is ridiculous. Hopefully you can change this tactic?
