The Ulta I go to has these little mirrors with trash bins under them and a container full of disposal lip gloss appliers, mascara appliers, lipstick appliers, they also have Q-tips for eyeshadow. They're EVERYWHERE in the store and the employees are always walking around and watching the customers. The only things I've tried before is taking a Q-tip and rubbing some eye shadow on my arm
Sweetermans Creative ikr! I ALWAYS put samples/testers on the back of my hand, and wash it immediately using wipes that I bring along in my purse when I makeup shop.
Yes... i never use it on my face Cz maybe people b4 me who have tried the tester use it on their face and they suffering from something.. its disgusting ㅜ.ㅜ
Yep... my mum taught me to try on the back of my hand back when I was really young and first starting to use make up and that is what I've always done, I mean if you give it more than a moments thought of course you don't put it on your face especially not your eyes/mouth, even without other people using it, the fact it's just sitting there for who knows how long being exposed to the air is bad enough!
I know right! How could they not know they.. well that's how snobby people are. They think there's always a servant to serve to service their every need
The whole point on swatching your hand is if you have good hand washing you won't infect yourself. If you are swatching on your face you are almost guaranteed to get infected.
expecting testers to be sanitary is insane. they will never be sanitary. everyone is coming in and touching them. rub them on your hand never ever on your face. they use the testers for the makeovers too, so skip those.
Katt I know.. I'm actually SHOCKED that people actually put this stuff on their skin.. I always thought they where there to see the color. I have put them on my hand to see if it looks good then I pull out my hand sanitizer.. I'm a huge Sephora person so I ALWAYS, ask for a brand new tester and ask if they toss it in front of me..
Namelessandpure Of course you expect staph, a lot of people have it on their skin as part of their microflora. Mould is also not uncommon in the environment. But honestly don't put testers on your face, just swatch it on your hand and wipe it off afterwards and you'll be fine.
For those who don't understand, you are still spreading disease onto your hands, then touching your face, your belongings, other things. It's still disgusting!
I didn't even know that people actually use teasters on their face. I only swatch on my hand. Obviously it's nasty when evebody touch it. You can't completely sanitize product used so many times...
I thought it was just common sense to put it on the back of your hand then wash your hands when your done if not hand sanitizer. People are just cheap and nasty
I don't think it is even allowed in shops in my area. I'd probably get kicked out if I tried to put any tester on my face because they would assume that I'm just there to use the product for free... But then again, America is very much different than Europe (where I live).
Lechiffresix six... the point is that you wouldn't want to test it on your face, but rather on your hands. You test a make up product to see its color/texture/consistency..
I know but typically I don't have potential entry points for bacteria on my arms and hands i.e. cuts and sores unlike the eyes and mouth where it's easy for bacteria to enter and cause a problem
Right? These people who are disappointed never thought that those half-finished lipsticks that stay for days on the counter were clean? Common sense, come on...
In China testers are behind the counter where you need to press a button for store employee to unlock it for you, and then they will give you QTips or whatever it applies to the product, for example for mascara they will give you a disposable mascara wand for you to try it out and no double dip as well. They won't allow you to use the tester directly on your skin or with your hand.
As someone who's worked for these companies you can not blame all the workers and their sanitization process. Testers are a risk ALWAYS. You can't control people touching everything all the time. You can't safely sanitize something that's touched by so many people. When you go to a professional makeup artist they maintain their kits and prevent people from touching their kits. It's why I always suggest hiring a professional for events as opposed to getting your makeup done at a counter. This is why.
Mary Anderson if you get a sample from Sephora it's made from a tester on the floor. It's only new if it's a sachet or deluxe sample in the brand's packaging. If it's scooped into a little clear container where the artist writes down what it is for you, that's from a tester on the floor. Foundations in pumps and brow pomades are usually fine to sample because people aren't sticking their hands in the actual product. Powder products, lip products and eye pencils and mascaras are your biggest vulnerability when it comes to bacteria.
By asking customers to not use the product straight off the applicator and instead using disposable and cheap cotton swabs to test out the product. Pretty much the same way you test out ice-cream. You can even do doubles, just not going back in with the same tool you used and have applied to your skin.
Everyone can use a disposable lip applicator and only dip it in once. If you need another layer or dip. Dispose the one you used, grab a new disposable lip applicator. But not everyone is going to do that process.
Do you not get the concept here? Swatching is essentially putting a clean product against your dirty skin (seriously, don't get offended; you have things landing on you from the air all the time. No such thing as "100% clean"), and if you don't like it, you close it, now putting whatever was on your skin into the whole bottle, contaminating it. Let's just use a simple example here that takes away the initial response to the term "dirty." Say you just finished a delicious chocolate brownie with walnuts. You're mobile, walking through the store as you eat, and want to try on some make up. So you just swatch on the back of your hand, don't like the color, so you put it back. Now there is a high possibility of an allergen inside the product. Egg, milk, tree nut....if someone who is allergic does a swatch, now there's a high chance of allergic reaction, depending on their sensitivity. So no, don't "just swatch it." Either use a disposable applicator to sample, or just buy a sealed one and if you don't like it, either return it, or just toss it out.
Um....it's a tester And if you saw lipgloss with the label TESTER what is the first thing you think?"Oh lipgloss goes on your lip,it's in the name too"of course it will go on your face what do you expect?
@@walmartkid496 why do you want to put the lipgloss that hundred stranger already use on your lip ? That crazy... who gave them that idea ? Use your hand and your brain
I swatch them on the back of my hand, then I make sure to look for their tissues and sanitizer at the little station with the disposable wands and rounds
its for both unfortunately. if you get makeup done in one of these places like sephora, mac or mecca they just use the testers on your face and use some alcohol to "sanitise"
I am shook by the fact that these people tried tester on their face. They should know that it is unsanitary to share lipstick and other cosmetic products.
This is literally the dumbest thing ever. It's called common sense; you should know that if more than one person uses it, it's going to be contaminated.
It kills me every time I see it. I saw this one girl literally put on concealer under her eyes and then blend it out with the tester sponge. I cringed so hard. There should be signs everywhere saying testers are only to gauge colors, not for actual use. It makes me so sad.
specially if you consider that people who test them are "out shopping": they have dirty hands from coming from other shops, carrying shop baskets, driving, using bathroom, pressing lift buttons, using bus or metro, handrails, eating, holding money.... then they use the make-up youll put on your skin
Some of these people's reactions are a bit ridiculous. Obviously testers are going to be contaminated, it's common sense. Now if a purchased product is contaminated, there's an issue.
IamShaki use a q-tip. Our hands touch a lot of things we just don’t want it in our eyes or mouth. And the pores on our face clog and cause breakouts so don’t put it on your face.
Was this suppose to be shocking? Like honestly, do people expect a couple of workers to clean after their every touch? Because there are about 1000 people that go to those stores per day. If people have common sense they should know to only swatch it on their hand or something. Thats the point of testers. Its not some full makeover. So videos like these are just annoying. Because bacteria is everywhere. What do you expect them to do about it?
exactly .... those things goes in and out, u can't really clean them, it is amazing how they try to make the area clean and make u feel those things are also clean. i mean u don't even clean ur own lip sticks or eye shades at home. it is weird this make it to the news....
Just because something is common knowledge to you doesn't mean it is to every person out there. It raises awareness of this type of thing and helps people who might not have known
As you can see it is shocking for people who normally test them in their face! Even if is obvious, the reality is people don't think about it when doing it.
moreover I can say that staph is our regular bacteria that lives on our skin without health danger, but it causes problem when the amount grow and immune system is fail
*pretends to be shocked* everyone should know how dirty they are & thousands of people are using them. literally why swatching on your arm is the way to go sis.
After working in cosmetics I can’t tell you how many women just put lipstick 💄 right onto their lips, as they walk by the counter and how many times I stopped them, saying “you should use a disposable brush instead of directly applying it to your lips!” Guess what? Many of them used to get offended! Saying that they are healthy and don’t have germs! Soooo.... many consumers behave like pigs to begin with
Sailor Swifty they are! Most of them feel entitled, treating service staff as a second class! I once had a lady whose lips were covered with cold sores and of course she wanted to try some lip colors. I flat out refused, saying that I can give her disposable brushes and scrape some lipstick onto a tissue for her , so that she can try it that way. Guess what? She demanded to see a manager, to which I told her that I was the manager , so she asked for my boss! When my boss came and saw her herpes covered flappers, she just refused her, stating the health hazard!
Dexamene0 Oooohhh! There’s so much theft going on, it’s actually sad! Especially during a holiday season, some people come in and beg for free stuff!!! It’s like “oh I don’t have any money, is there anything you can give me as a sample, so I can give it out as a gift...?”, then they bring up god and all that🤣 I developed a germs phobia after working with cosmetics to the point where I felt like washing my hands after just talking to somebody without even touching them!
“It’s been years I’ve been doing this and I’m just finding out about it?” Oh 👏 come👏 on👏! This is such basic common sense! I don’t fault the companies or the brands! No one should have to be told that testers aren’t to be tested on the face!!!!
This moment in the video is exactly why I came to the comment section. You don’t lick the table at a fast food place and then act like you should’ve been informed that they aren’t cleaned thoroughly after every customer! And she doesn’t realize that she is the one contributing to the problem by putting public samples on her own face.
Really! There are so many people trying on testers. It is impossible to clean each and every one of them after use by a costumer for the store workers as well. We as shoppers need to use our common sense and use the testers on the hands and wash them later on.
I work for a makeup brand. We rip the mascara wands and lip gloss wands completely off of the testers cause people will literally just put this stuff directly on their face. The only way they can use the product is by asking a makeup artist for a disposable wand.
Marissa Santiago I think that's how it should be done every where! I only have experience about MAC, and they will give you disposable wands for lipsticks, and I don't think you're allowed to try them on yourself, they'll do it for you!
I've pretty much only ever shopped drugstore for makeup, so the first time I even got to try testers in store was a year ago. All the built-in applicators had been ripped off, and there were disposable ones placed here and there in the store. Unfortunately, my moronic, unobservant self didn't notice the disposable applicators until after I'd use the broken nibs to swatch on my hands. I feel so guilty, even a year later, because I introduced extra bacteria (although I already new there was almost definitely a lot in the testers already) into products when I didn't have to.
Personally I don’t think the stores are to blame. You can use the products at your own risk. Your not forced to use them, and you can always buy products, take them home, and return them if you aren’t happy. If you are that worried about the germs, don’t use them.
8:07 she's disappointed cause she taught that the products are clean. Gurl! The products are probably clean, it's the testers that are dirty and I think we just need to use our common sense to know WE SHOULD NOT PUT TESTERS ON FACE!!!!🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
heatergrn You contradicted yourself. If people don't use their brains, that means they have to be told. And since you said "I was always told to never share make-up", that means weren't using your brain. LOL!
I get angry when I see someone opening a product at a store .It's frustrating to get an opened lipstick . I only buy the ones that are sealed . Yuck. People are so weird.
Yeah, when my mom buys a lipstick she gets the sealed one or the one at the back...When she sees someone trying out a lipstick in the store, she avoids them😂 So, yeah. Its gross.
One day i was visiting guardian(a local beauty shop). I was trying one lip gloss sample. And the girl who work on the store come up and said to me " sweetie dont use that one!" And she ended up opened another mini lipsgloss (the same one but its just for sample and its new 1 for everyone and they could bought it home) for me and said "Try this" and gave me aplicator and a hand sanitizer Thank god she gave me that
Actually I test makeup on my hands, I never tried to wear testers makeup on my face. I just see if the product is pigmented and if it fits my skin tone (on my hands)
It's amazing how uncommon common sense is. Most places have clean testers hidden away that you can use if you just ask. But why are the "clean" ones put away? Because people are disgusting. Why would you put a TESTER that is just out on display anywhere near your face?
Um....it's a tester And if you saw lipgloss with the label TESTER what is the first thing you think?"Oh lipgloss goes on your lip,it's in the name too"of course it will go on your face what do you expect?Soooooo
you can use it on your finger tips, they are red, similar to your lips. I put it on my fingetips and carefully bring close to my lips and check it if it fits for me in the mirror
I used to work for Bobbi Brown at Nordstrom and I was constantly trying to keep our makeup clean. It’s impossible. But I certainly did try! Wish I could say the same about my coworkers. NO ONE cared. Including management.
It's because they're so full of themselves that they can't possibly imagine that it's *their* germs on those testers. I never use testers that are left in the open. The few rare times I've gone to test makeup, I go to an associate and ask them to open a new product.
Well, in their defense, they think it’s clean and that the customers will clean it after they use it. It’s reasonable that they want to test it before they buy it. They are just disappointed about how they were blind about the fact that they aren’t as clean as they think. (I’m just assuming this, because I’m too young to buy and use makeup)
I tested lipstick on my hand, looked good and bought it and it was a pointless purchase cause it matched the tone of my lip 100% and didnt make any difference at all
Worked at a Bay in cosmetics years ago and was never told to clean the testers. Not once did I ever clean a tester never thought of it. But they were how ever on our backs to clean shelving. What an eye opener! Thks
I'm wondering how many people can judge about this as we're all learning about it now. For example, if you never worked in a restaurant, and the next day were told to wipe off the tables after each use, and KEEP THEM SPOTLESS!! You get slammed with customers, but did your best to keep up day after day with no other instruction, but no one ever told you to wipe down the chairs.......that information was supposed to come from the top. Now that we know about this, the sensible thing to do is provide tester swabs, which I have seen. Make those women who do full facials BUY those products if they don't use common sense. Eww.
Stacy Rocks Yeah. But your hands are a lot less sensitive. Als. Hands dessinfectants, or washing your hands. It is greatly illadvised to put ethanol on your face
I work for Mac, and I see customers using testers without asking to sanitize first. It’s so disgusting. Like they will straight up use the gloss without using a disposable applicator.
I work for a makeup store and people actually OPEN mascaras(not testers) and use them on their eyes, so you never know if the actual product that you are buying has been used or not. Disgusting.
That's why you should just apply it to your hand to see if you like the colour or if it matches your skin tone, then wash it off with soap and water. I don't wear makeup or go to makeup stores but that's what I would do ♡
I'm am SUPER shocked that ppl are putting testers on their face and lips like duh. I can see swatching it on ur arm or hand but not on my face like wtheck smh
I kind of wish they didn't put all the blame on the staff in stores bc there are some nasty people who just don't listen when you tell them they shouldn't use it on their faces and double dip 😂🤷♀️
This is nothing. Women will apply everything on their face at walmart 🙈 I don’t understand how women can just apply like that at sephora when there is disposables everywhere
Lol I know right! I am a woman and I know for fact it’s dirty as hell! Some lady are dirty go to the bathroom and don’t wash hands so imagine the makeup lol
Isn't that like... common sense?? How the hell do people expect these to be clean at stores with people putting their nasty fingers on them? *DESGUSTANG*
For lip gloss/liquid lip they’re supposed to remove the doefoot and supply disposable lip product application sticks so there’s no way for people to put the tester directly on their mouth and contaminate the entire bottle
Buffy Summers people double dip and its not possible to remove the doefoot bc every brand has their own style doefoot and costumers are gnna ask what i looks like
it's dumb to assume these testers, who hundreds of people a day who could have anything or be really gross use , would be clean enough to put on your face!!!! That's why you swatch colors on the back of your hand! I don't get the big shock, it's just obvious
Princess Sawa better than putting it near your eyes or lips, but, especially if you work extensively with your hands, you might have small cuts and burns there.
This is super misleading. You can find mold samples on literally anything exposed to air. They offer clean samples, simple as that. They told the shoppers that their products were dirty, not just the samples.
Myles And it makes sense that they can find Staph aureus too since the make up kit touchs the skin. But I think the problem is not finding bacteria or fungi there, but the colony that’s quite high in number there and can act as pathogen
I thought this was obvious. If you want to look at the shade, use it on your arm, not on your face or lips. What in the world does Marketplace expect retailers to do? They can't just give out free, fresh product to everyone to try on. This does not seem to be a problem with new product, just the testers.
Back in the day there were single testers so these may come back. What they really need to revisit is the use of antimicrobials. Preservatives have been removed over the years due to health concerns but now we have issues of infectious agents. A bit like food, there has to be a balance between additives and food safety
I have mixed feelings about this video. It pissed me off but also made me more aware of the kind of things that are found in testers. I work at Sephora . I was a color consultant for quite a while, before moving to a different section. The reason this video pissed me off is because the people they're interviewing are absolutely ignorant. "We trust them to be sanitary" are you serious? It is extremely difficult working at a beauty store ESPECIALLY when it's VERY busy all 7 days of the week. Yes we do get trained on how to clean testers, yes most of us clean testers on the daily (I'd like to think so), but it is impossible to clean it every minute of every day because of how many people will touch that product. Before mini makeovers and custom makeovers, for sure we will clean the products very well. I am a germaphobe, so I understand and appreciate the time taken to get people to be aware of this but honestly do NOT blame the workers or the company, at least the ones that actually try to keep things in good shape. My advice is; SWATCH ON YOUR HANDS. OR ANYWHERE ELSE OTHER THAN YOUR FACE. If you buy it and don't like it? Return or exchange. Perks of Sephora. simple. Thank you. my rant is over lol
I completely agree with you! That girl who worked at shoppers was not trained properly btw! I worked at shoppers and we cleaned as much as we could(INCLUDING TESTERS) and ESPECIALLY before makeovers but we can not keep up with the amount of people in stores and brands RARELY send us testers so we have to keep old testers out or else people will start opening up the saleable product and testing from that which is so disgusting that people think that is okay not only to open but once they open it they put it back on the shelf in the package like nothing happened ruining that product for someone else to unknowingly buy. Basically always swatch on the hand and dont be a rude customer when there is no tester to begin with. It is probably because we threw it out because it was gross. That girl in the video completely pissed me off rant over.
I think its not the workers its more the management of the company that doesn't hire enough workers to clean every section. If you have a company that big than you should have an individual assigned to every section and put up signs to warn consumers not too swatch make up on their face. A consumer should have zero risk of infection when trying or buying a product there are no exceptions even in the cosmetics industry.
I worked at Sephora in skincare, and we cleaned everything all the time. We also cut lipsticks and other lip products that some in a tube regularly. But customers would still use products, especially lip products, straight out of the containers. If we saw someone doing that, our policy was to throw out the tester. There’s no way to clean a mascara or lipgloss once someone has used the applicator and put it back in the tube. Shoppers should always test on their hands, never on their faces!
While I agree that it should be common sense not to put a tester on the face, I see people do it every. damn. day. I work at a drugstore, and we do have some testers out. People of all ages, like college kids through little old ladies come in - smear everything on their face - and leave. If there's no tester, they just open the product and do what they like, and I have to hope I can catch the products that have been opened to throw them away before someone else buys them. We can't sell them anymore! It's disgusting, but its also clearly not something that 'everyone' knows about, or they wouldn't do it.
Cassandra Clifford ikr tester is important, I even always asked for it before I buy something, but I never try it on my face, I think it's a common sense
yes thats true , i went to buy the nyx butter lipgloss i asked for a certain colour and the sales lady gave me one which was already open .... i didnt realise till i got home , i tossed it immediately
when customers open products to use it, arent you supposed to make them buy it since they opened it rather than waiting till they leave and toss it? because they violated the stores policy. I worked at a drugstore and this lady was opening a spray tanning can and i caught her and told her if the product comes out she'll have to purchase it
What do You mean yeah same! I think they don't really get paid enough to care about if people gonna get an infection or not 😂 most people in retail don't even get paid for breaks, and think how much germs they get sitting on public loos. I mean really, there's bigger issues in the world 😂
Depends on the store. I know several of the ones near me do clean them obsessively (like before and after every time someone uses it, if they're free to do so) 🤷♀️
Sephora is the worst. if you book a makeup appointment they use the testers on your face. they don't even have clean products for ppl paying to get their makeup done. Worse their employees aren't trained makeup artists and there is so much incompetence. Many of them do not clean their brushes. You're better off going to a department store or to MAC where the employees are all professional makeup artists. MAC actually has clean testers you can ask for and this clip showed they have less contamination in their samples.
What the heck does she mean that makeup companies should be more careful if they are tying to sell a product??? The bacteria isn’t coming from the brand new and sealed products genius...it’s up to the individual to either not swatch on their face, sanitize as best they can before applying testers on their face or risk exposing yourself to a host of staph infections by just putting it on your face 🤷🏽♀️
bfever46 i left a similar comment just now. Consumers need to take some responsibility too. How many of them don't wash their hands? How many go shopping sick?! How many moms let their kids sticky hands touch everything? How many dont use the supplies on the end caps for better hopes of keeping the spred of germs down. Aughhh
In Europe you have to test your products for bacteria, polluting minerals, contaminations ecc, and provide evidence that they're safe BEFORE you have the chance of obtaining the permit to sell them.
I don't know who thought testers were clean. Ever! As an esthetician and former Sears cosmetics employee we did do things such as use a special tool to cut off a few millimeters of lipstick spray it with alcohol and pat it dry with a clean tissue or makeup sponge. Scraping shadows and blushes and then spraying them was another practice. But not all.of us did it. I just know I never tested any makeup on my face at any store. Ew!
I never ever try testers on my face EVER. I barely try them on my hand only when I feel like it's NEEDED. I have always been grossed out by testers and I'm sort of shocked that people actually use them on their faces. Let alone their eyes and lips.
Trying out clothes not knowing who else has worn them is gross enough for me and that's just skin contact ... trying makeup that's touched not just people's faces but also every gap and crevasse on their face is a whole other story 😬😬
YepItsThatGuy 😨😨😨😨 I hate it when people take selfies inside the dressing room and all the clothes they tried are on the floor or standing on top of it. 😤😤😤
It's worse with makeup because clothes are dry but a lot of makeups are in liquid or cream form. When it's wet it makes an idea environment for bacteria to grow and multiply. And some of the testers don't get replaced for months even years
I live in London and every clothing shop I go to has you give the employees clothes you aren’t going to buy after trying them on; pretty sure that’s so they can clean them before they put them back on the shelf
Junaina Chowdhury nah, i used to work in clothes. We would just check to make sure its not damaged nor stained, and that it is free of oder before hanging/folding the best we can before putting it to the floor. Mind you I'd caught some people trying to do product swaps with tops from 1-2 years ago that were just rereleased (the tags don't lie). My coworkers wouldn't even look for deodorant marks, let alone oder. I'd send anything I found to claims (which hurt us but less than marking down) while my coworkers would put something in the same condition back to the floor. Welcome to retail. The magic washing machine for tried on clothes is a lie.
Im surprised people think the testers are clean...
qwerty407 Yeah, I know it's impossible to regulate. They do try to have the disposable available. You can spray you with 70% isopropyl Alcohol.
Ikr
qwerty407 the video wasn't shocking. The people were
qwerty407 😂
Same
I am actually shocked that people try lipsticks and eyeshadows on their lips and eyes. I would never do it
The Ulta I go to has these little mirrors with trash bins under them and a container full of disposal lip gloss appliers, mascara appliers, lipstick appliers, they also have Q-tips for eyeshadow. They're EVERYWHERE in the store and the employees are always walking around and watching the customers. The only things I've tried before is taking a Q-tip and rubbing some eye shadow on my arm
The only thing I would test is a spray perfume
DuolingoOwl IsComing eli soriano
Yahhh i too never done that
Exactly. I'm like "who thinks of testing them out like that".
Isn't this the biggest "duh" ever?
I thought so. Like who does that. It's gross.
Ikr. Shouldn’t this be common sense?! Like wtf!? -_-
I only swatch on my hands because I hardly share makeup with people I’m close with...let alone strangers *shudders*
Sweetermans Creative ikr! I ALWAYS put samples/testers on the back of my hand, and wash it immediately using wipes that I bring along in my purse when I makeup shop.
HA HA HA! omgod this made me spit out water laugh omgod amazing
I'M MORE WORRIED THAT IT TOOK A MICROBIOLOGIST TO TELL PEOPLE THIS!
Ikr, I thought it was common sense.
YEAH!!!! I am like, what are these people thinking? Sales people are there to SELL not clean the products.
Yoir profile pic fits perfectly with this comment XD
Ikr!
Exactly
let me say this once for the people in the back :
TESTERS ARE FOR YOUR YOUR HAND
Oh my gosh yes it is so disgusting that they use it on their face
Yes... i never use it on my face Cz maybe people b4 me who have tried the tester use it on their face and they suffering from something.. its disgusting ㅜ.ㅜ
Yep... my mum taught me to try on the back of my hand back when I was really young and first starting to use make up and that is what I've always done, I mean if you give it more than a moments thought of course you don't put it on your face especially not your eyes/mouth, even without other people using it, the fact it's just sitting there for who knows how long being exposed to the air is bad enough!
Yea
I know right! How could they not know they.. well that's how snobby people are. They think there's always a servant to serve to service their every need
Testers are supposed to be swached in your hands......... Not on your face duh
Celeste Verdial can’t people have dirty hands?
The whole point on swatching your hand is if you have good hand washing you won't infect yourself. If you are swatching on your face you are almost guaranteed to get infected.
At Sephora I asked an employee about foundation and her immediate response was to put a tester on my face.
Well some people want to see how it looks on there face I don't put it on my face but you know
Exactly
expecting testers to be sanitary is insane. they will never be sanitary. everyone is coming in and touching them. rub them on your hand never ever on your face. they use the testers for the makeovers too, so skip those.
Namelessandpure Im more surprised that was all they found
Agreed
Katt I know.. I'm actually SHOCKED that people actually put this stuff on their skin.. I always thought they where there to see the color. I have put them on my hand to see if it looks good then I pull out my hand sanitizer.. I'm a huge Sephora person so I ALWAYS, ask for a brand new tester and ask if they toss it in front of me..
Right!? Everyone touches them! And you never know how clean people's hands, skin, etc... is before they use the product.
Namelessandpure Of course you expect staph, a lot of people have it on their skin as part of their microflora. Mould is also not uncommon in the environment. But honestly don't put testers on your face, just swatch it on your hand and wipe it off afterwards and you'll be fine.
For those who doesnt know whats going on: *testers are for your HANDS 🖐*
I wouldn't even want to swatch on my hand . . .
But what about foundation....ur supposed to match it to ur neck...
But now, we understand we shouldn’t even put it on our hands.
Yep
For those who don't understand, you are still spreading disease onto your hands, then touching your face, your belongings, other things. It's still disgusting!
I didn't even know that people actually use teasters on their face. I only swatch on my hand. Obviously it's nasty when evebody touch it. You can't completely sanitize product used so many times...
I thought it was just common sense to put it on the back of your hand then wash your hands when your done if not hand sanitizer. People are just cheap and nasty
Agnieszka Sokołowska my thoughts exactly
im so disgusted by that people, like why would you try make up on your face , a tester, wtf
I've seen some women but especially teenagers doing so
I don't think it is even allowed in shops in my area. I'd probably get kicked out if I tried to put any tester on my face because they would assume that I'm just there to use the product for free... But then again, America is very much different than Europe (where I live).
ughh do people actually try the samples in their face? Your just supposed to swatch them in your arm
thank youuuuuuuu like who does that??!!!?!?!
pricila I have seen people in Sephora do their whole face with samples. 😬
Exactly! It never crossed my mind to put the testers on my face. Eww... 😱

who thought these were clean? I always just rub it on my arm or hand, never putting that on my face
Jasmine, hands are just as filthy as the face.
Lechiffresix six but you can wash your hands right after easily, washing your face however is a lot more difficult in public.
Right? These people who are disappointed never thought that those half-finished lipsticks that stay for days on the counter were clean? Common sense, come on...

Bacteria: "hold on"
In China testers are behind the counter where you need to press a button for store employee to unlock it for you, and then they will give you QTips or whatever it applies to the product, for example for mascara they will give you a disposable mascara wand for you to try it out and no double dip as well. They won't allow you to use the tester directly on your skin or with your hand.
Commander Erik but I never experienced this in China
That's smart
I live in China and never saw smth like that
In my Sephora they do the same. But some people don’t know nor listen so...
Okay but QTips or disposable wands are so wasteful, I'm glad we don't all do that because imagine the disaster for the planet

I see it often, people putting testers on their lips.
Believe me, I've seen women doing so especially teenagers
As someone who's worked for these companies you can not blame all the workers and their sanitization process. Testers are a risk ALWAYS. You can't control people touching everything all the time. You can't safely sanitize something that's touched by so many people.
When you go to a professional makeup artist they maintain their kits and prevent people from touching their kits. It's why I always suggest hiring a professional for events as opposed to getting your makeup done at a counter. This is why.
Exactly!
Astha Inoue ☺️ my sister calls me fee fee haha
What about the samples? Like if I got a sample of a foundation or a brow pomade where does the sample come from? Are they new products?
Mary Anderson samples are generally new.

That girl who said "How can you clean a lip gloss tester?" has a point.Just swatch it and wash your hands and buy it.Simple af.
By asking customers to not use the product straight off the applicator and instead using disposable and cheap cotton swabs to test out the product. Pretty much the same way you test out ice-cream. You can even do doubles, just not going back in with the same tool you used and have applied to your skin.
Does it not work to put the lip gloss against your lip? To check that way.
You can clean them in a alcohol liquid cleaner
“Makeup industries should be aware of that..” YOURE NOT SUPPOSED TO PUT THE TESTERS ON YOUR FACE IN THE FIRST PLACE. USE YOUR BRAIN.
Arthur Park LIKE PUT IT ON YOUR HAND OR SOMETHING NOT YOUR FACE MAYBE LIKE 10-20 PEOPLE COULD OF USED THAT 😳🙄
Um....it's a tester
And if you saw lipgloss with the label TESTER what is the first thing you think?"Oh lipgloss goes on your lip,it's in the name too"of course it will go on your face what do you expect?
The first thing I think when I see the label TESTER is germs.

This is kind of a joke-- who expects the makeup to be sanitary? I thought testers were intended to show the formula/colour-- not to try it on...?
Maria Beardsley me too
I swatch them on the back of my hand, then I make sure to look for their tissues and sanitizer at the little station with the disposable wands and rounds
its for both unfortunately. if you get makeup done in one of these places like sephora, mac or mecca they just use the testers on your face and use some alcohol to "sanitise"
most places have make up remover wipes near the testing stations, don't they?
mariah , and they should test those on women , not on animals. this who BS industry needs to disappear
I am shook by the fact that these people tried tester on their face. They should know that it is unsanitary to share lipstick and other cosmetic products.
TESTERS ARE MADE FOR HANDS. PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THAT.
This is literally the dumbest thing ever. It's called common sense; you should know that if more than one person uses it, it's going to be contaminated.
itsFringey I mean it is 2018

HOLD UP! there are actually people who use the testers on their face?? 🤔😦
I was at Sephora once and I saw two women do all their makeup with testers, it was disgusting. Sephora staff saw them but never said a word to them.
U will be surprise at how many did that.
When you get a makeover at Sephora, they use testers
It kills me every time I see it. I saw this one girl literally put on concealer under her eyes and then blend it out with the tester sponge. I cringed so hard. There should be signs everywhere saying testers are only to gauge colors, not for actual use. It makes me so sad.
NerdGirl oh no no no that's just nasty
specially if you consider that people who test them are "out shopping": they have dirty hands from coming from other shops, carrying shop baskets, driving, using bathroom, pressing lift buttons, using bus or metro, handrails, eating, holding money.... then they use the make-up youll put on your skin
Rogergina
Some of these people's reactions are a bit ridiculous. Obviously testers are going to be contaminated, it's common sense. Now if a purchased product is contaminated, there's an issue.
Exactly
Don’t put it on your face. Test it on your hand.
IamShaki then just wash your hands
IamShaki use a q-tip. Our hands touch a lot of things we just don’t want it in our eyes or mouth. And the pores on our face clog and cause breakouts so don’t put it on your face.
Still full of germs ... try on your wrists
Correct
And make sure the skin is unbroken, no cuts.
It's still nasty though
As you can see it is shocking for people who normally test them in their face! Even if is obvious, the reality is people don't think about it when doing it.
moreover I can say that staph is our regular bacteria that lives on our skin without health danger, but it causes problem when the amount grow and immune system is fail

Soooo.... many consumers behave like pigs to begin with
even if they are healthy, the person before them might not have been. most customers overall are a pain
I do lowkey wish more people got infections from trying testers directly on their faces. Some people steal testers as well, how desperate are they?!
Dexamene0 Oooohhh! There’s so much theft going on, it’s actually sad! Especially during a holiday season, some people come in and beg for free stuff!!! It’s like “oh I don’t have any money, is there anything you can give me as a sample, so I can give it out as a gift...?”, then they bring up god and all that🤣
I developed a germs phobia after working with cosmetics to the point where I felt like washing my hands after just talking to somebody without even touching them!
They immediately assume the employee is calling them dirty. They should consider, maybe 15 mins before cold sores sampled the same tester.
No actually like sephora has an actual makeup artist show you brow techniques and stuff using testers so yeah I do fault the companies
Ew that stuff is in your eyes
I've pretty much only ever shopped drugstore for makeup, so the first time I even got to try testers in store was a year ago. All the built-in applicators had been ripped off, and there were disposable ones placed here and there in the store. Unfortunately, my moronic, unobservant self didn't notice the disposable applicators until after I'd use the broken nibs to swatch on my hands. I feel so guilty, even a year later, because I introduced extra bacteria (although I already new there was almost definitely a lot in the testers already) into products when I didn't have to.
This is a great way to reduce the problem if used correctly, but even with the disposable wands - people could easily double dip.
No actually my sister worked at Mac and IT WAS NASTy
COMMON SENSE ....WHERE IS IT?
At least i had it C'MON ANYONE COULD POISON IT, A TESTER IS A PERFECT THING TO POISON

Personally I don’t think the stores are to blame. You can use the products at your own risk. Your not forced to use them, and you can always buy products, take them home, and return them if you aren’t happy. If you are that worried about the germs, don’t use them.

Well sometimes common sense is not so common, missy...hence why they made this video to prove to people that there are germs.
I get angry when I see someone opening a product at a store .It's frustrating to get an opened lipstick . I only buy the ones that are sealed . Yuck. People are so weird.
@ffliberty by buying it and then refunding it if you dont like it. it's so gross to buy a lipstick that someone else put on their mouth
Why would you buy an open lipstick, anyway?
I open a sealed one then test it then if i like it i buy a brand new sealed one again. Hacks ppl . Hacks
Yeah my mom usually gets the ones in the very back
Yeah, when my mom buys a lipstick she gets the sealed one or the one at the back...When she sees someone trying out a lipstick in the store, she avoids them😂 So, yeah. Its gross.
One day i was visiting guardian(a local beauty shop). I was trying one lip gloss sample. And the girl who work on the store come up and said to me " sweetie dont use that one!" It's amazing how uncommon common sense is. Most places have clean testers hidden away that you can use if you just ask. But why are the "clean" ones put away? Because people are disgusting. Why would you put a TESTER that is just out on display anywhere near your face?
still why should I use a tester that was used by 10 other people?? it is not clean!

It's funny how the same people who are responsible for contaminating testers are complaining about the testers being contaminated.
Exactly.. how and why people refuse to acknowledge that is beyond me
It's because they're so full of themselves that they can't possibly imagine that it's *their* germs on those testers.

I'm wondering how many people can judge about this as we're all learning about it now. For example, if you never worked in a restaurant, and the next day were told to wipe off the tables after each use, and KEEP THEM SPOTLESS!! You get slammed with customers, but did your best to keep up day after day with no other instruction, but no one ever told you to wipe down the chairs.......that information was supposed to come from the top. For lip gloss/liquid lip they’re supposed to remove the doefoot and supply disposable lip product application sticks so there’s no way for people to put the tester directly on their mouth and contaminate the entire bottle

+TheTumbleFever I thought that was supposed to be the way...SMH.
True, and it would be safe if people followed the rules and didn’t double dip, but unfortunately people still contaminate the products.
Buffy Summers supposed to do, and does, is two different things
Buffy Summers people double dip and its not possible to remove the doefoot bc every brand has their own style doefoot and costumers are gnna ask what i looks like
dafuq.. this seems like common sense to me. communal things are dirty.
it's dumb to assume these testers, who hundreds of people a day who could have anything or be really gross use , would be clean enough to put on your face!!!!

Princess Sawa better than putting it near your eyes or lips, but, especially if you work extensively with your hands, you might have small cuts and burns there.
How about the make-up kit and brushes from a salon when we pay them to do our make-up? Are they clean??
I wash them anyway. Just like clothes and anything else just bought
Shayla C common sense is not so common anymore 😕
Nathalie D preeeeeeech!
wow thanks expert
Omg I was working at a shoppers when this came out and I remember all of our beauty staff freaking out lol.
I thought it was common sense to just swatch it! And most of the time just ask and they will give you a clean tester
Lysol that! My mom always saids that to the servants in target so don’t get make up from target 😬😵😯
Lysol that! YES!!! why would someone put TESTER on lips or eyes ??? put it on arm...gosh..
I honestly thought this was common knowledge
idax111 lmao ikr but hey at least now there’s facts to back up 😂
Right, I always know my shades before so I won’t have to try it on.
idax111 or swatching on my arm.
I swatch everything on my arm
How Would testers be clean when people use them💀 lol like obviously they would have been used by other people
Its tester . What do you expect?😂
SM,WENDY FOREHEAD PLEASE redvelvet👍🏻

SM,WENDY FOREHEAD PLEASE REVELUV~~~
*I always test lipsticks on my hand, or just buy the product. Works good for me since I only wear cheap makeup*
pure garbage on your face!
@@PP-vf1kx its cheap 😤
Fun fact: you actually touch more germs by touching your phone or a doorknob. Seriously.
I wipe my phone with antibacterial wipes every once in a while because,, phones are gross
IKR
phones are the dirtiest
I want you to visit Lauren and comment hopefully she notices you
You can easily clean your hands or objects it’s not so easy to clean your face. Either way, using testers is still nasty.
Cassandra Clifford SAME
Cassandra Clifford ikr tester is important, I even always asked for it before I buy something, but I never try it on my face, I think it's a common sense
yes thats true , i went to buy the nyx butter lipgloss i asked for a certain colour and the sales lady gave me one which was already open .... i didnt realise till i got home , i tossed it immediately
when customers open products to use it, arent you supposed to make them buy it since they opened it rather than waiting till they leave and toss it? because they violated the stores policy. I worked at a drugstore and this lady was opening a spray tanning can and i caught her and told her if the product comes out she'll have to purchase it
Now run a germ test on your own cellphone screne....
*screen
Screen*
And a germ test on doorknobs, escalator handrails etc bacteria, molds and staph everywhere.
ew, do you not clean your phone with sanitary wipes? :/
ew, do you not take anti-bacterial hand gel out, wherever you go? :/
"Do not use if tamper seal is lost or broken."
Makeup stores: **Lets customers use their products that has god-knows-what on it**
You're not supposed to put it on your face genius
I NEVER EVER *EVER* put testers directly on my face, or even near my face at all. I swatch them on my hands then immediately swipe them off.
Simderella same bro
*same*
Simderella SMART LADY .
Years ago they gave out tiny lipstick samples.
Mustard Seed 😮 really? I’ve never saw this anywhere
Omg i remember playing with these when i was a kid
Loved those
Avon did that I think
Avon still does that. My aunt who sells it gave me some.
Sephora is lying I have gone to many different Sephora’s and have asked them if they clean them and they said they only replace them once they’re gone
What do You mean yeah same! I think they don't really get paid enough to care about if people gonna get an infection or not 😂 most people in retail don't even get paid for breaks, and think how much germs they get sitting on public loos. I mean really, there's bigger issues in the world 😂
Depends on the store.
I know several of the ones near me do clean them obsessively (like before and after every time someone uses it, if they're free to do so)
🤷♀️
Sephora is the worst. if you book a makeup appointment they use the testers on your face. they don't even have clean products for ppl paying to get their makeup done. Worse their employees aren't trained makeup artists and there is so much incompetence. Many of them do not clean their brushes. You're better off going to a department store or to MAC where the employees are all professional makeup artists. MAC actually has clean testers you can ask for and this clip showed they have less contamination in their samples.
Me: Watching this
Also me: **Remembering the times when I was young and found it super cool and grown-up to try testers** 🤢🤮
Trueee omg 🤣🤣😭
Armyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Right.. But now employees apply testers on themselves to show us
What the heck does she mean that makeup companies should be more careful if they are tying to sell a product??? The bacteria isn’t coming from the brand new and sealed products genius...it’s up to the individual to either not swatch on their face, sanitize as best they can before applying testers on their face or risk exposing yourself to a host of staph infections by just putting it on your face 🤷🏽♀️
How do you know they aren't coming from the brand new products? Did they test brand new products, unfortunately no they didn't.
bfever46 i left a similar comment just now. Consumers need to take some responsibility too. How many of them don't wash their hands? How many go shopping sick?! How many moms let their kids sticky hands touch everything? How many dont use the supplies on the end caps for better hopes of keeping the spred of germs down. Aughhh
I dnt use testers period I just pick and buy and hope it look good on me
sweet lady sameeee
I have to try about 25 colors to find the one I want to wear, so I just risk the germs.
Lol same. I’ve returned many items because of it. I’d rather do that then risk getting an eye or lip infection.
You see you like you get it .👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
sweet lady lmao sameee
THIS IS WHY YOU SWATCH ON YOUR ARM!
Helen Winston or hand
Stacy Rocks or eyes
Kirby WHAT no don't you know that you eyes are PART of your face???!!!
Stacy Rocks it was a joke lmao
When you are watching this during COVID-19 lockdown😂😣😶
Right🤣was thinking about this so much... we probably won’t have testers for a while anymore
👁🐽👁I will never test anything from now
The Ulta in my location eliminated at the testers.
8:23 wrong. If it's been on hundreds of faces I wouldn't put it on my face. It's common sense. It's a tester not your own personal make-up.
Even personal make ups get dirty what more if its a tester. Like they uses hands to swatch then someone uses it directly to your face? Wtf
Where are you, common sense?
Common sense has left the chat
BLINK
Ok
In mars
I never use tester makeup on my face! I use a tissue from my purse and swatch it there, then hold the tissue up to my face!
Olivia Beakman that's a good idea I'm gonna try that🤔
Karissa Jade
It's not completely perfect because the tissue is white, and it'll make it textured, but... It's worth ittttttt.
Olivia Beakman yeah it's worth it cuz you aren't getting nasty germs on you 😝😝😝 yuck
Karissa Jade
Yeppp
Olivia Beakman Maybe you should get those tissues that are like beige. In the party section of Target or something? I'm not sure.
My question is did they test unused and unopened products for bacteria? 🤔 Some of those microbes could have already been in the makeup.
In Europe you have to test your products for bacteria, polluting minerals, contaminations ecc, and provide evidence that they're safe BEFORE you have the chance of obtaining the permit to sell them.
i wonder about this too. like shouldn’t you have a control first? not saying the sample is clean because they absolutely not.
That a good scientific thinking! Wish I had thought of this myself while watching 😅
exactly what i am thinking. there should be a control group
@@Anna-fw7lm
Yes, but they should ban testers, especially now with CoViD around
I don't know who thought testers were clean. Ever! As an esthetician and former Sears cosmetics employee we did do things such as use a special tool to cut off a few millimeters of lipstick spray it with alcohol and pat it dry with a clean tissue or makeup sponge. Scraping shadows and blushes and then spraying them was another practice. But not all.of us did it. I just know I never tested any makeup on my face at any store. Ew!
Laura's Life even if you did.. It's super hard to keep up with! You'd have to redo your sanitizing every day
*coughcough *common sense *cough cough*
k m
I will give you a cough drop. Lemon, honey , or mint?
Do you have a cold 🤧
k m Have you been using the testers😕
Why the hell would u use tester ? I certainly wouldn't . "Oh what a lovely pink lip gloss I got mould and yeast on my mouth, don't I look pretty". 😷🤢
star 94' fabulous
Lol I low-key don't really care sometimes
I never really go to makeup stores but when I do I just put testers on my wrist and then wash my hands after.
star 94 mold*?
Some makeup shops take off the brushes off like liquid lip stuff and like mascara
And some of the testers don't get replaced for months even years
Where I live every clothes shop has a instant cleaner thing they use to clean all the clothes for testing
