    The song we did in Patriot Games was called Pride Of Our Land; writing credit listed as Padraig & Noel Duggan. It's said to have been based on the song Irish Soldier Laddie, which Ken O Malley and Padraig Duggan arranged for the film. Blended Spirits is perhaps a name coined on the spot for the pickup band that Ken O Malley put together for that gig. The players I know offhand are Ken O Malley (guitar, vocals) Cait Reid (fiddle) and myself Richard Cook (whistle).

      oh wow ! did you ever come across any sheet arrangements or full complete lyrics? i can hear 2 verses in the movie, ones the main chorus but i can only make out parts of the rest. Did the song begin with the chorus "my brave irish laddies well not be broken...etc." or was their a first part that didnt make it to the movie? I love this song so much, i'd say its even better than irish solider laddie

      i can hear the words "ill sing you a song from the land of our father" and "they came and destroyed the pride of our nation.." but it drowns out after that

      @@danielarthur5697 Sorry I don't remember if there was any sheet music, probably not. We probably learned it by ear, in the typical Irish trad music way. Ken O'Malley is still around performing regularly I believe, maybe you can get in contact with him.

      I just checked, Ken O'Malley has a nice website, he's still performing and it looks like he's also doing Ireland tours. He's the guy to ask about that song.

    I love the doubt in Harris's face after Ford's speech. Its just the slightest touch and is gone just as fast. Replaced by nonchalance. Great acting.

      What is the name of the song?

    • @RichardDCook
      @RichardDCook 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm the whistle player in the band, the lead singer is Ken O'Malley, the fine Irish-born Los Angeles-based musician. The fiddler (the woman with the big round glasses) is Cait Reid. So the music you hear in that scene isn't The Irish Rovers, it's us, a pickup band that was put together for that scene.

    I honestly think this performance by Ford in Patriot Games was my favorite of his. Great story, and he felt so genuine, a father using his skills to avenge the violence carried out on his family. Going into a local pub and screaming at IRA brass as a means to an end? Guy was absolutely freaking fearless. Totally believable.
    Also love Samuel L. Jackson in an Irish pub...just something to be said for seeing that.

    • @RichardDCook

      I think you're right about Ford's performance. It's his character's emotions which keep the film together.

    This scene always feels good & right. Jack Ryan, though reckless & emotional, behaves in the manner as any father in that position would behave. I suppose it does help having the backing of the entire CIA, but still.
