Sonic the Hedgehog turns 33 years old on June 23rd! To celebrate Sonic's birthday I wanted to create a list of how Sega and Sonic Team have celebrated some of Sonic's big milestone birthdays in the past. This list will include most Sonic videogames that released on the 5th, 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 30th anniversaries of Sonic the Hedgehog. This list is just my opinion. I hope you enjoy the video!
Happy Birthday Sonic! There were a few other Sonic games that released on big anniversary years such as Sonic Advance and Sonic Rivals but I couldn’t fit every game in 60 seconds and believe it or not there are some Sonic games I never played 😅. Also I said next way too much, my bad

did you know a lot of sonic extremes “screenshots” could have came from a different game because during an interview about the Dreamcast by sonics creator, he mentioned how sonic 3 was always supposed to be a 3D game like on the Sega Saturn which could answer why this seems to be 2 kind of sonic X-tream used screen shots there one season two sprites in 3-D levels that seem to wrap around each other Full speed with arena like areas and a 3-D sonic model And tend to have a unused versions of metal sonic in it my theory is that the ones with complete 3-D was sonic extreme where the ones with 2D sprites and 3-D areas were supposed to be sonic3

Sonic generations is my favorite anniversary game and the series and my favorite video game of all the time
Sonic 06 is something I love the most. Not just the gameplay to play, but I love the story of how every main characters you play in, the only 3D port made by SEGA, adding Silver and Blaze in the mix with Mephiles. And unique ways I wish that they kept end in the future.

Fun fact. Most people think mania is the 25th anniversary game. But it's actually sonic boom fire and ice. If you don't believe me take a look at the box and promotional material. They all have 25th anniversary plastered all over them. That should show how much Boom was the entire franchise at that time and that it was just a replacement. The fact they made that the official 25th anniversary game. And mania just took it's place in the eyes of the fans

@@Kebab0960 you'd think that. But that was the only sonic anything we got for 3 years straight. And fire and ice was somehow the official 25th anniversary game. That and if you look at the 3ds sonic theme it says the different sonics and how long they lasted. There was classic from 1991- whatever it was. Modern sonic from 1998-2012 or whatever. And boom sonic just said the current date at the time with no official end date. As if modern sonic was just another classic sonic of the past
@@justyouraveragegamer6142 they literally hired an entire new team to make sonic boom games, if it was meant to be a replacement they definitely would have been developed by sonic team themselves. although that definitely doesn't excuse the insane sonic drought from around that time, it definitely did seem like it

@@spacelord8965 Nonsense. Just because Forces runs it doesn't make it better than 06. As buggy as 06 can be it had a solid core gameplay with multiple playable characters. What does Forces offer? Hold boost to win Modern Sonic, awful Classic Sonic physics and a whatever OC where enemies get steamrolled like nothing?
Forces's whole gameplay is a giant joke. All style no substance. That's just the gameplay, don't get me started on Forces's godawful writing and voice acting. There is 0 reason to put Forces over 06 lmao.

The fact I'm only a few months older than Sonic is kinda scary, I was only two months old when "Sonic the Hedgehog" released in North America and it's staggering to realise it's been 33 years since then.
Yea time sure is flying. On the bright side every major anniversary for Sonic is also a major birthday milestone for u too 🤷♂️

Gens, Mania, SA2, Frontiers, 3D Blast (DX), Sonic Riders were all good anniversary titles.

Aside from Sonic 3D Blast’s placement, I respect this list. I would have put my top 3 (ascending) as SA2, Generations, and then Mania, but mine also switch around

Depending on how old you are, imo Gens is the gen z equivalent to SA2, it was my first ever fully fledged Sonic game. My copy still has old GameStop stickers on it

Why does everyone think Sonic Frontiers is a anniversary title, I know it came out on the same year as sonic origins, but it’s different from it because sonic origins was celebrating Sonic’s past and colors ultimate is the anniversary title because it came out on Sonic’s 30th anniversary year

Out of all games that celebrate sonic's anniversary. Generations is the only true Anniversary game having Stages and music from many previous games.

What would be the games that would support the 35th anniversary?
I don't know. But it's funny that 06 and Forces are separated by 11 years and both are the 15th and 25th anniversary games but they are the most hated.. While Adventure 2, Generations and Frontiers (yes maybe this one is not from the 30th anniversary) are the most beloved representing the 10th, 20th and 30th anniversaries.
Let's hope that the anniversaries with the number 5 don't have some kind of curse, in that case let's pray that the 35th anniversary Sonic is good (assuming it will be the continuation of Frontiers). Although I don't think it will come out in 2026, maybe 2027 at the earliest or 2028 at the latest.

Yeah i totally agree with this ranking , generations basically had what every sonic celebration game could dream of great gameplay for both classic and modern , amazing soundtrack, very cool rivals and bosses, a variety of fun missions, cool customization options, nice collection of trophies, concept arts and old music from previous sonic games this game had it all and it's even better with the addition of shadow generations
Swap 06 and Forces's spots, and Generations and SA2's spots and that would be my list.
Finally someone who also thinks sonic 06 is more fun than forces

What if the Sonic franchise had ended after Generations? And if after that, we always get remastered ports by Whitehead on mobile devices? Like S3&K, Sonic Adventure and Advance games, and Sonic Mega/Gems Collection(including SegaSonic, Chaotix, & (Saturn)3D Blast) instead of Origins.

Sonic X Shadow generations may take the #1 for my favorite Sonic game, I never owned a Xbox or ps3 before so getting a remaster with shadow the hedgehog will be insane
