I own a Dji Mini 2 but I will never do a range test... it's beyond stupid to return close to 50% battery because the wind situation might be less favorable on the flight back.

Great video. I took 15 hours of flying lessons in a cessna 150 years ago before running out of money and never finishing. One thing I remembered from those lessons which drone pilots can profit from and which is mentioned in this video is that when a pilot experiences an emergency or potential emergency, the first thing that is taught (to civilian pilot trainees) is to watch for emergency landing sites while you're working the problem and heading back to the airport. UAV pilots must do the same as this video points out. Get away from the water and trees if possible as you are heading home. Fly as low as possible (for less headwind unless you are getting a tailwind to help forward speed and less distance to fall if the battery fails) and fly next to a roadside or border of a field if possible so that you can find your aircraft later if power fails. If you think that you won't make it back, better to make a controlled landing at a known good recovery point than to risk it and have the power go out on you at a moment not of your choosing. Civilian pilot trainees are taught this too. If they are losing power and they think its highly unlikely to make it back to the airport, better to pick the best emergency set-down point you can find while you still have control and put it down now.
Never cross a body of water or thick forest if you must go below 70% of battery power to cross it. There could be a headwind coming back and you must save some reserve power for emergencies. This is like scuba diving, you come back to the boat with 20% air reserve 500psi still in your tank, never take it down to zero!

I only use a DJI spark simply because it's seriously fun on sport mode. I'm too not into pictures or that isn't a selling point for me it's the drone flying and doing what I tell it to do. Being fast and reliable. Getting fun out of it. And have it for another day. Walking back home after enjoying the flight and being happy your drone is still spotless and ready to go next time.

@@smg1336 an FPV drone is a whole nother level compared to a selfie drone like the mini.
It also costs ALOT to get into it. A good radio is like 200.00 decent goggles like 400. And a good drone with 5 min flight time is 200+... If you want something with a decent camera ur looking at 400+
So your spending almost 1000.00 for a drone with less flight time and no GPS. So when u lose it you can't locate it...
FPV has its place but you cant compare it to a DJI drone. They are very different.
Thats like trying to go off roading with a Ferrari 360 and calling it crap cause it can't do it...
Chose the right tool for the job.

  • @HR-wd6cw
    @HR-wd6cw 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

For #6... yeah this is why you should just use the OEM parts like propellers and batteries. Camera lens filters and such don't matter because they won't impact flight but rotors and batteries can. This is also why it is sort of better to buy the Fly More combos. You get 2-3 extra sets of propellers and a few extra batteries so at least if one of those has a problem, you can change it on-site. And they're generally a better deal in the end. For example, a Mavic Air 2 battery is $115 USD, but the Fly More combo is $200 more than just the Air 2 basic kit (but with the combo you get 2 extra sets of propellers and two extra batteries, plus a charging tray to charge all 3 batteries, so it's definitely worth looking into the Fly More combos especially if you use your drone while traveling and finding spare parts or batteries may be hard--like in foreign countries).

Flying near high voltage lines in something routinely done (lots of video on TH-cam too). And it's also one of the serious/business jobs for which drones of all kinds are used.

Interesting video! Many mistakes were pilot error.
I've already seen some of those videos.
The first video I just can't understand why he continued flying over that pond with 0% battery, luckily he landed on the far side just avoiding the water! The recovery was painful to watch, the drones location was clearly visible on the map but they kept looking in completely the wrong areas and direction! 😁
Range tests over water are very risky, especially when you come back with only 50% battery!
Wind is also a factor in many Mavic Mini crashes.
Also understanding how RTH works is crucial to the long life of your Mavic Mini, set the RTH altitude according to your surroundings, set it above the highest obstacle between you and the drone!
Trees are your enemy when flying drones lol

This was entertaining but also important for us to take care at how and where you fly even if you may be the best drone pilot evet

Had a mini crash with my brand new Mavic air 2 last night..... Was coming into land and was getting a landing error. In the tutorial it shows you to put both sticks down, then in. Well it wasn't in landing mode so it flew right next to me and crashed into my glass door. I was maybe 10 ft. from the door so it didn't build much speed thank god. Anyways, moral of the story calm down and take your time if something like that happens. Damage assessment: Tiny scratch on rear left light and minor damage to one prop. I switched all props and re-calibrated everything, works just like when it was new.

When the battery is at incredibly low levels while flying over a body of water... the mavic touches the water... the video freezes and the screen turns gray... scariest thing for a dji pilot lol

If you are about to crash your DJI drone, click RTH button once for an emergency stop 🛑. You can enable this in the settings for anyone who would like to know, hope this helped!

Most errors I've seen (at least 90%) are piloting errors and usually when the pilot was not following best practices (ie. keeping the drone visible, flying too high, or flying in windy conditions). Obviously with some pratice, some of these accidents can be avoided, such as crashing because you can't see your drone or flying in windy conditions).

Trees and buildings also cause GPS signal bounce. GPS signal locations can be off by 10's or 100's of feet momentarily. The drone will try to go where it thinks it supposed to be and that might not be a good place.

This is why mommy and daddy shouldn’t buy their teenage kids a thousand dollar plus drone if they’re not bright enough to fly it safely. It boggles my mind the little respect these chuds have for their money. I’ve never flown into a tree, maybe it’s not smart to use quick shots at 20 feet on your front street loooool. So satisfying. Now that the entry level is so low with the spark and now the mini lots of chuds don’t understand it weighs so little and the winds up higher are too much for the toy. It’s a poor piece of kit.

I was at tigertail beach in San Marco island flying drone. It was flying over the swam toward the beach and all of the sudden it warned there was an interferent signal with an airplane in the area even though the small airplane was a lot higher then my drone which is at only 40-50 ft high. Then my signal connected to the drone was cutoff and i totally lost control. Within 15 min I could not make any connection to my drone. Desperately I tried to search my drone through the controller but no hope. I checked my flight path ( thru my profile) and saw roughly the location of the last contact. Walking toward it about almost 1 km away, i finally gaining my signal, trying to take off but no luck because it couldnot turn the blades on. So i use the " find my drone" and walked thru the mash area. Lucky its still beeping and I found it hanging on a branch and its low enough for me to retreat it. No words described my Joy. I lost one before only a few month ago. My warning is once you lost signal contact to the drone you may not recover it for a while and you drone could drop or crash any moment and if your drone may run out battery then your chance of recovering it very little. I was lucky!

His channel name is Tio DVD Hobbies. 00:02 Is it enough? 00:04 He went into landing mode, that's it, I'm going to lose the drone, guys 00:13 Hey guys, 800 meters away, not that far 00:16 And now do you land there near the trees or do you land here in these houses? 00:19 Or do I try to keep coming back? 00:26 I will land in a known place here
