To think John sang this as his encore song at the end of a two hour concert is mind blowing. Absolutely and unmistakingly brilliant!!! There is no wonder he is known as "The Voice" in Australa. God bless you John.
John Lennon may have written the song but John Farnham redefined the song gave it heart. The emotion he pours onto that song and the lyrics totally tells his own life story. ❤❤
If you watch the biopic that was released this year "john farnham: Finding the voice" and you will know what hardship john went through before he became Australia's best voice... that's why he sings HELP with such heart because of what he went through... check it out!!
I grew up with the music of John Farnham, but until the last few years when people like you started reacting to him on TH-cam did I realise how incredible his voice is. That comes with maturity and having studied music and appreciating his technical skill. Thank you from Australia 🇦🇺
John is the best male vocalist/performer of all time. John shows so much respect to his band members, the fans, everyone. John’s voice is so versatile and has such agility and vocal range is seemingly unlimited. I’ve listed to John for over 30 years and his music never gets old. Anything from John is bound to be epic, especially live.
Totally! John is THE VOICE and one of the nicest kindest humblest humans. He respects his band members and loves his fans. I recommend you all watch An Audience with John Farnham. You will get to know him better. His sense of humour is also fantastic. Our Aussie Legend and we are so proud of him and want him to be completely well again. ❤️
Check out John Farnham, Barnes and Diesel in the live performance... When Something Is Wrong With My Baby. but... Always... ALWAYS... listen to these guys live...
The thing about John is his music his voice, has a way of reaching inside you and leave you with a feeling of warmth and a sense of peace. When I’m down I listen to John perform and I feel so much better and more relaxed, a feeling inside that I can’t explain. Aussies love John and his songs are just as relevant today. I’m 74 this year so I’ve had Johns music in my life since Sadie😀
Actually, John Lennon wrote the song, but the Beatles sung it at a much faster tempo. John Farnham was teaching himself to play it on the piano and played the chords slowly, so he could get used to them. He thought that the slower tempo suited the lyrics much better, so he rearranged the song. It was a rearrangement that John Lennon said redefined the song.
Deep Purple did the first slowed down version of this song. Probably half way between the Beatles and Farnham. I’ll work out the tempos tomorrow for all three just out of interest 😆
Thanx so much4 showing John his health hasn’t been the best lately but man we love him in Australia 🇦🇺 he’s just sorta a legend here 🙏🏼 Cheerz guys 💔🇦🇺🩷
John sold out that venue more than 90 times in his career. Just in one City. He is humble, kind and wonderful and called the Voice for a very good reason. Haven’t yet heard a genre he cannot sing naturally. This song was a Beatles song but John fixed it. Yes, the older I get the more I appreciate this man. You have to watch his Bio Pic, Finding The Voice to understand why. John started singing at 17 with the wrong manager. He was 38 before he was free to sing his songs his way. He deserves the world to know him and his story will tell you why. It is now on TH-cam. Thank you.
I read somewhere it was 98 times and they were hoping to get him back for two more. It also said more than a million tickets sold just in that venue! 😮
@devi_- well, I never went to 98 concerts, but I did buy tickets to 17 of them and he never sang a bad note in all the concerts I saw. You always left on a high and could hear the songs in your head all the way home. What a rush.........
As an Aussie who has experienced decades of Aussie music (in other words I am not so young), I now truly appreciate just how many wonderfully talented musicians, both solo singers and groups, Australia has produced, while the rest of the world remained largely ignorant of the depth of our extremely talented music scene. So good to see that there is a growing international appreciation of these great talents. As for John Farnham, it is impossible to explain just how loved he is, both for his exceptional voice and talent, but also because he is such a wonderful human.
As another not so young Aussie I totally agree. We in Australia have had the privilege of so many fabulously talented musicians whilst the rest rest of the world were largely ignorant of what we had.
It is impossible to explain how loved he is in this country. When he was diagnosed with mouth cancer we were all terrified, and I mean terrified that he wouldn’t make it. I am a heavy rock girl but he has the most magical voice, control, and interaction with everyone around him, and is also just a great bloke! I adore him, he is older than me and I hope that I go before he does (same with David Gilmour) as I would just be devastated!!!
a #1 hit in five consecutive decades Not many have that record, this was in the time signature that John Lennon wrote the song, it was speed up for the movie Help
Time signature was the same (both were 4 beats per bar) but the tempo was slowed down 😉 Deep Purple slowed it down first then Farnham and Goble slowed it a bit more.
Still one of John’s best performances and concerts ever! ❤ John has always appreciated his audiences and has always actively encouraged audience participation. John is a humble human, despite his fame, and he stayed true to Australian music despite many opportunities to take his music worldwide. Our John is an Aussie icon and legend and we love him. ❤ Even in his 70’s his voice was amazing…check out the Aussie Firefight Australia concert with John, Mitch Tambo, Olivia Newton John and Brian May on “You’re The Voice”. Sadly John had surgery for mouth cancer last year and although he is recovering well, I doubt that we will ever hear him sing again. 😢
There is only one John Farnham he is an Aussie through & through we adore him, he is our National Treasure, he is very ill at the moment, my heart aches for him, get well mate, love you.
The original song was release on 29th July 1965 by The Beatles, and is a pop classic; the song was written primarily by John Lennon, and credited with Paul McCartney.
Not a Bad effort seeing as this is an encore after a 2.1/2 hour show ,,,,,,loved this guys music since i was young ,,actually John lived 2 houses up from me in a place called Noble Park when i was young,,,,Dont go listening to any more of his singing as you will have opened up a Rabbit hole that will take you awhile to finish lol
The crazy thing is that there was another encore after Help that night. Plus, it was closer to 2 hours of singing for this exact concert than 2 1/2 hours.
John Farnham's voice has a shimmering transcendence that gives us a wistful glimpse of the truth, beauty and awe that is in the Universe - it is metaphysical. In 100 years' time, Music Schools and Vocal Scholars will still be studying all the many facets of his peerless vocals. For Australians, Farnham is simply known as "THE VOICE". John may not be the most globally famous singer for ordinary people - but nearly every internationally famous musician knows exactly who John is, and what he can do. It is an easily defensible argument that John is the GREATEST SINGER IN THE HISTORY OF RECORDED MUSIC. There may have been someone better before recordings, but we can't hear them! For power, folks will cite "Pavarotti" - nope. Australians have heard John sing in concert halls WITH NO MIC (just look at how far away the mic is from his mouth in this clip - sometimes over half a metre - with a full Symphony Orchestra just behind him). John has sung Opera to critical acclaim with Anthony Warlow in Australia. Around the piano at rehearsals, his band members tell of having their "heads blown off" from his sheer power. And he has maintained that power night after night over a 50-year career. At 70, he sang his songs in the SAME KEY as when he was 20. For technique and agility, folks will cite "Whitney Houston" or "Celine Dion" or "Mariah Carey" - nope. If you listen to John's mellissma (fast vocal runs), they are faster and more accurate than any of these icons. But even more importantly, he is a gentle, compassionate, dynamic and wickedly funny human being. He makes space for his backup singers to perform solo - right in the middle of his show (who does that?). You leave his concerts absolutely exhausted from crying in wonder one minute, then the next - side splitting laughter from his crowd interactions and Mother-in-Law jokes. Early in his career he did stage musicals, and has the comedic timing of the best standups. Millions of Australians wish John peace and continued recovery. And we thank him for the beauty and happiness he has brought to our lives.
Hi Bradley I'm putting together a bit of a history of John for Paul & Fellipe. They've already reacted to Part 1, and I've sent Part 2 to them today. Do you mind if I use some of this wonderful text in my next segment? Love our John ❤ You have put into words a lot of things I feel I could not have said well enough. Thank you AussieDeb ❤🎉
Hi Deb, it would be an honour. What I was trying to do (completely inadequately) was to convey the unmatched technical ability John has achieved as a singer, his skill as a live “entertainer”, and then his beauty just as a human being. I came to the conclusion that any combination of words at all was simply inadequate for such a task. But we can’t let that stop us from telling people all about him, can we? Cheers, B.
This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol This song is one of the last songs that he would sing at the end of the night after he had already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours. Some have pointed out that this particular recording of the concert was closer to 2 hours of actual singing during the TV special, but it was also on the 4th or 5th night that he had sung like this. Either way, it was one of multiple nights that he did this on January 4-10, 1989, so his voice is still worthy of the accolades. Not many other singers can belt like that for even 2 or 3 nights without a rest. And besides picking at the exact details or this exact performance, Farnsey also has a way of getting deep into the emotions of your soul. A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one. -Burn For You.. th-cam.com/video/4PPvOhPspEA/w-d-xo.html -Angels.. I agree with all of those song choices. Do yourselves a HUGE favour and listen/react to them all. As long as you play John Farnham, his Legion of fans will be here listening along with you...

All the best from Debbie in Australia. ✌☮🕯💙

Melb'n. Not Melbourne. Melb'n.
can hear u ok, but your audience is listening to a poor quality sound of music. They wont understand what you can really hear.
What do you mean?
Didn’t sound clear, more like you have background music on while listening to you.
not quite on par. different, try Quartz by Marillion
How about in future videos you minimize yourselves and maximize the actual video instead of this crap distorted panoramic view .
