O.M.G.!!!! This checks off literally EVERY box on my 'wants, needs and requires' list, literally every one of them!! This is the exact rig I've been looking for!!! I'll be coming to see you guys next spring.
@@JoshtheRVNerd better pre-order a few more, as this one checks all the boxes for me, except for a couple of change out & dealer upgrades like swapping out exhaust fans. Would I need an anti-sway unit on the hitch or would the wider stance twin axles make it not required? Could that smaller outside frig be changed out for a 12 volt model? How long would dual 12 volt batteries mounted on the hitch keep the kitchen frig running cold? I am thinking a I’d require a rear back up camera. What model would you recommend? I’d need a bicycle rack mounted on the rear bumper. What would you suggest? Was there a sewer hose storage tube mounted under the rear area? Questions: What size is the AC unit?
Good to know! I've been doing this for a while so sometimes I need to remind myself not EVERYBODY literally breathes/sleeps/eats RVs all day long. Lot of first timers looking for info And frankly a lot of owners who likely didn't get quite all the info they need the first time around.

We've loved our 231rbds but eventually came to the realization that we need more than a dinette for seating - but we aren't ready to level up our 1/2 ton ride. Every camper we'd seen until now meant sacrificing some feature really important to us. Then KAPOW! - your "baby" solved our dilemma! So excited! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
@@JoshtheRVNerd Seriously, if you saw the feature list I devised last winter to compare models, it's like Coachmen used it to design this camper, then added a few more perks for good measure.
I would love to see a washer/dryer prep in place of the outdoor kitchen and have an free standing table with chairs instead of the booth dinette. Thanks Josh for all the great videos. We may have to come from Alabama to visit you soon!!!
Great floor plan with excellent execution. I like the drawers under the bed, and the stupidly high lift that you can get. This could allow a person two distinct working zones (assuming your own desk creation) for those of us who can work from the road.
We're loving this unit. Still in shopping mode, but trying to keep at around 80% of our towing capacity, and this hits the sweet spot even at Gross. Plus that great outdoor kitchen, and 20ft awning. Nice. Unlike most though, we want the trifold couch. Dealer we're working with has basically said we'll need to order that once we take delivery, So eventually.
This makes me kinda wish I had waited a year. I have the 248RBS and Coachman really added so much with this. The theater seating is great. Love the pantry with drawers. Unfortunately the 248 doesn’t have any drawers except for the UUUU tensile drawer. I do like that they moved the outside sink closer to the fridge which gives you more counter space. Also, like the drawers under the bed instead of just storage when you lift the bed. Also, in both models they put the over the sofa cabinet wider doors which make it more accessible. Maybe in a couple of years I’ll buy one of these. Well done Coachman!
Love the new floor plan. Has everything we've been looking for. It's the ultimate couples travel trailer. Love it so much me and the wife just ordered one. Thanks Josh. Keep up the awesome videos.
They've offered them in the past, but the "core" of their fan base pushed back against the feature desiring more airflow from the traditional sliding panes. I think it's something that could go nicely into their Liberty Edition models though. Adds a nice visual variance.
Hi Josh, just a note, the uuuuutensil draw is not unusual i had one in my former home in the bathroom. Big fan, Richard looking for a 248/252 combo. 252 plan 248 dinette, sofa that's my camper baby.
We have the 248 and love it but this model takes care of all the little things we would like better. The theater seating and extra counter space being the two main ones. We would love to find a floor plan like this in a fifth wheel. We love the queen bed too, I'm always amazed at how many people want to waste space on a king but everybody is different.
I've only spotted one company building a layout like this in a *modern* fifth wheel and unfortunately it's no longer in production. My understanding is customers didn't like going down the stairs to the bathroom at night in the fifth wheel version. Sometimes there are some funny little buyer's mindset things like that which will cause one or the other to sink or swim.
It's not a feature generally available in trailers this size due to the sheer size of space a designer has to set aside for it (and they should not be installed on a rear wall due to travel bouncing which complicates space allowances for them further). I am aware of nothing really close to this size/type of layout with that feature. The following link is about as small as W/D prepped units *typically* come with very few exceptions th-cam.com/video/AUKBp7c79Es/w-d-xo.html
Superlative floor plan with design input from Uncle Josh the RV rock star. Separate bedroom is necessity for the matrimonially inclined. High points for me are taller ceiling, ducted (quieter) storage, air conditioning, fireplace and showers with headroom complete me. Good exterior accoutrements also.
this has to be one of the best set ups I have seen. this jewel has everything a small family needs. spacious bathroom, bedroom and kitchen area. the dinette bed would work great for a child. I love the chairs. all the storage is awesome. I will definitely keep this one on my list of potential lookers. the outdoor kitchen just needs the ice maker. I would upgrade the fan and add solar (double if possible). also add the wifi. it's nice that it comes with the outside table. just add chairs. maybe a smaller window over the bed as to add upper storage. even if just a shelf area to put blankets. does it come with two batteries or just one? does it depend on the solar package? this is an all around great setup.
I'd like to see the pull down, blackout, roller shades, and a fan in the front bedroom roof vent. Aside from that, I think she's pretty much complete! Great looking camper! Really has my eye! Probably will be my next purchase!
This one is about as perfect as I could ever wish for, and still towable by our Expedition. Absolutely love it!❤️❤️❤️ I’ll be showing it to the hubby this weekend. We’ve been watching all your videos together on our TV each weekend, so I don’t comment as much now, but still very much appreciate all your work and humor. Merry Christmas to everyone at Haylett RV, and to you and your family. :)
We had a meeting, the hidden cabinet behind the TV is dads happy water and the techs are working on a keyless lock to keep the druncle from raiding it. We also decided that since it was your idea, call it the Josh Express. 👍
Thank you for your detailed reviews Josh my husband & I really appreciate your thorough walk through . We have been researching campers for about 6 months now and have decided this is the model for us. We currently own a 2017 Freedom Express 192RBS that we love but decided we need a little more space. Also camping longer into the chilly season now. Just wish we were closer.... we’re in New Jersey. But seriously considering taking a drive up to see you.
I wish freedom Express would put the 300 lb accessory hitch on the back of their trailers like Rockwood does. And I wish they would have put the longer kitchen window in like on the 248 rbs. Otherwise, it's perfect!
My fiance and myself are in the market for our first couples trailer. I personally feel like I have watched over 100 TH-cam videos of different trailers. This trailer right here has everything on our "want list" LOL. Great video.
Great floor plan! I wasn’t into it when you first mentioned it, but it came together perfect. Also, between the fireplace, stable steps, and friction door, they have really pulled it together.
Hi Josh great review. I love the upgrades in the newer Freedom Express campers. Even better than our 2020 camper. One suggestion I would like to make is a slide out drawer in the cargo area. Maybe one drawer the whole length of the area or two shorter drawers with access from each side. It would make it so much easier getting to those items that are in the middle of the cargo area. Thanks
We have those available through our parts & service center -- like Mor/Ryde slide open drawer/trays and some similar things. The hiccup is you lose out on the use of SOME Of the storage space around those boxes... but yeah... they're slick for the majority of the time! :)
I know I’m really late with this question, but when the dinette is converted to sleeping space, how long is the sleeping space? Will a 6’1” friend be comfortable?
Never too late!! :) It would be small for them. I don’t have exact dims handy but and am out of the office for a few days currently. If you need to know quickly, then our team at 800-256-5196 could measure something similar
I’d really appreciate the 252 dinette dims too, since we’ll be giving up the U dinette in the 248 to go to the theater seating in the 252. Many thanks!
@@JoshtheRVNerd yes for sure, I watch probably every video of those believe my f150 will pull. WE have rented a few in the last year to figure out what our LIST would be....Impressed by this one
Not from the factory. The W/D suppliers advise not to put them that far back behind the axles also due to the bouncing in that area and how it is too hard on the appliance I've seen people do it. That'll need to be a 100% DIY job though
Love this layout. Thanks for doing such a thorough job showing travel trailers. Curious to know, do any ever speak out about the dinette table being a tight fit for many Americans (who love to eat)? I just wonder if I'm the only one who would like to see a dinette that has drop-leaf edges so that "fuller" guests can fit more comfortably. Of course the table top would still need to service the bed conversion some how. Would love to see this explored by manufacturers. Lisa
First here’s some updated footage of this one m.th-cam.com/video/170xnFqsK0A/w-d-xo.html And yeah.. dinettes don’t fit a lot of folks. It’s one of the reasons I am a proponent of floating tables
Floating tables seem to help plenty. Wish all brands carried this idea though or looked for other solutions. We’re interested in a Rockwood Mini Lite. (Hoping the economy improves soon so we can feel more comfortable to buy.)
We live in Texas and we bought a 2019 Freedom Express 248RBS, based in part to a video you did on it. The 252RBS is very similar to the 248RBS and would be a great RV for a couple.
Hey Josh, love watching the videos! I really like this trailer however, my wife and I would love to see this version with a washer/dryer prep in place of the outdoor kitchen. I know most folks would prefer the outdoor kitchen but we have not seen many trailers in this size range that offers that space in the back corner to be dedicated to a washer/dryer combo and small tall closet for brooms and such! Thanks for all your videos, we have learned so much from watching them. May have to drive from Alabama just to buy one from you!!!
Only issue is outlet under upper cabinets . Should have a popup type in counter . coffee pot cords, toaster , just not long enough . have to run spike bar .
It's funny -- I love those pop up power things, but a SHOCKING number of people REALLY do NOT like them. Some brands just avoid them as a result. And that's why we carry so many of these crazy things lol
This one checks all the boxes except for 1. A washer and drying (or combo). Don't know if that would work in the outdoor kitchen space or not. Love this floorplan, though. Great job!
W/D units take up more space than what most folks think and you cannot have them placed on the rear walls else the W/D companies won't cover their warranty (due to the heavy bouncing back there). That's why you almost never see W/D prep on a sub 30ft camper and only rarely even then
Love the floor plan but... the door on the outdoor kitchen is a potential headnocker. How about L-R opening or have full vertical with magnets? Slam latches too...
I love your videos, Josh! And they keep getting better! I have a 2019 246RKS and I would love to incorporate some of what you showed. The bigger door access to the front storage is something I will have to dream about! Why the driver’s side door was a different size than the passenger side makes no sense to me! But alternative access to the under bed storage is a real possibility! I have to rework the dinette table as the first owners ripped the top off the base and screwed it on with new holes such that when lowered, it does not fit flush to the side wall. Anyway, keep up the videos. Wish you guys were closer to New England!
Perhaps some clarity will be beneficial - Rockwood pairs their 12v fridges automatically with solar and an inverter. Nearly no other brands do that as the majority of people still use their RV for park camping more than anything (where no solar is needed) Thankfully these models are all solar prepped so they can still work for those with an off-grid focus
A few reasons -- mostly due to the way the floor plan is laid out. There needs to be a door Xft from a sleeping space, so most middle-entry campers only have one door since it satisfies that requirement. Some people like a door straight to the bedroom. Some hate it. Some MFGs try to save every dollar they can by shaving out everything they can (including extra doors). It all depends. That's why there are SO MANY similar campers out there -- they each do it a LITTLE different to appeal to as many buyers as possible
Like the floor plan and where they put the spare tire. It’s been a few months now but I don’t think they use Azdel on their rear walls though. One of the reasons I didn’t purchase the sister model. If I remember correctly, they are one of the manufacturers along with Winnebago claiming Azdel “side walls” because they are not using it on the rear panel which can be misleading.
Correct on the rear wall -- azdel in sidewalls only under the fiberglass. Important to note the language -- side wall vs. rear wall I try to clarify when I can, but I don't want my videos to grind to a halt with too many minutia clarifications like that (which I already do plenty of times!)
Josh, I have been waiting for THIS video since I saw the floorplan on the Coachman website a few months ago. Any idea how long it will be on the lot to view in person? I'm considering driving over from Kalamazoo.
So the RV from this video had a pending purchase within the first hour of the video going live. We've taken several orders on it since. Seems this is going to be an instant classic! The camper is still physically here if you'd like to see it in person (only about an hour drive for you from Kzoo). I don't know when it's expected closing/leaving date is, though. Best recommendation is to call asap to find out when it's slated to leave so you know when you can come peek at it
We love your videos and have learned so much. Thank you for all the detail you include. I think this is going to be the trailer we purchase and it will be our first RV. One question I have is whether the USB ports and 110 outlets will work when dry camping if you have enough battery power or if additional equipment is needed to make them work.
A lot of great, innovated ideas in this impressive rig! I am just wondering about 2 possible optional changes. 1. Could the fridge be changed to a "regular" gas/electric model? 2. Could it be ordered without the outside kitchen, and use the space for storage?
*FRIDGE:* 2-way fridge is standard so no worries! 8cu ft in size. The fridge shown here is optional *CAMP KITCHEN:* Removal is not optional, but very little is "bolted down" and easily removed if needed.
We are just wondering if Freedom Express now comes with an accessory hitch on the back bumper? We owned one years ago and it was not even an option back then. We would like to add a bike rack.
There's not much to compare * 248: A few inches shorter, lighter weight, U-Dinette, Jack Knife Sofa * 252: A few inches Longer/heavier, 2-Bench Dinette, Theater Seat Option (or hide-a-bed). Also picks up a little extra counter space due to the longer length Other than that they're basically the same RV
I suppose it depends on how loud you prefer things and how good your hearing is. My father struggles with any sort of background noise, but I'm able to filter it out pretty readily Unless i'm Tired :)
Josh, why are the axles only rated at 3500lbs each for a total of 7000lbs when the trailer has a 7600lbs gvwr. Wouldn't the axles be overloaded allowing the insurance company to void a claim should something happen. Please advise. Thanks,
The dining table's big feet give it great stability, but make it probably a little too bulky to slide in there. It MIGHT work... i'll have to check that The good news is that outdoor picnic table fits easily!
Newbie question here. What type truck would you recommend to pull this RV? Now what's your personal preference? I know I need a crew cab, I have a huge German Shepherd who likes to stretch out in the backseat, so its just the 2 of us.
Do they make a larger toy hauler with the no neck wrecker tv features the azdel the living area features and 12v frig/solar and the cpap friendly bedroom?
Great..now maybe in a 5th wheel freedom express with theatre searing and table and chairs with counter space and wash/dryer hookuos? Did i ask for too much?
Would the table fit between the two bed storage areas? If it doesn’t, that would be my suggestion. You could play games, do crafts, work on a computer (office) etc. It would give you an entire new functional space during the day!
@@JoshtheRVNerd -- Well, could the trailer be built about 6 inches wider and possibly 6 inches longer? I'd add all that to the bedroom space to give it more room to walk around the mattress. Do away with the outside kitchen and devote all that interior space towards a shower getting rid of the current one. Then position the toilet up against the back wall and centered in the room. Then you could use the entire opposite back corner for a lower and upper cabinet with a flush mounted sink. Even with these adjustments I don't think it would raise the over all weight of the trailer by very much. These changes would make for more walking space around the bedroom and a much larger and open bathroom, If that could be done I believe they would have a true winner as a couple's coach. And, thanks for asking.
@@jamesbass9797 That's possible, but not by request. They build it how they build it basically. Like a cookie cutter. You can apply a few bits of "frosting" in terms of options, but you cannot request structural changes like that.
It's funny -- some people love them. Some really don't. I like the light blocking, but dislike how they sometimes feel... invasive? I dunno. Hard to describe.
Josh, could you get them to add a wardrobe slide as the Rockwoods have to this model? You seem to have their ear. That would make this 252 even more awesome!
*Yeah.. so.. OBVIOUSLY this one doesn't have 540gal of fresh water LOLOL. Sorry guys. ONLY 50gal!*

Josh this is pretty much what I want , fills all the checks on my list . I believe a the trip from Chicago to see you about one is in my future .
Here's some updated footage of them here so you can see what's new bit.ly/30guB5n
Love this one! Love the theater seat placement 👍 Thanks for the great video Josh! 😀
You bet!
I literally saw a couple of freedom express' being hauled in western WA on tuesday. You're reading my mind. lol
Like when you THINK about a blender, then you see an ad online for a blender and you're like... waiment...
I like it. It reminds me of a Murphy bed layout except with a full bedroom.
That's sort of what this and the 248RBS are -- if you took the murphy bed out of the murphy bed LOL
OMG Good sir, This is just the most awesome RV i have seen for the wife and I. This just checked a TON of boxes for us....thank you
My pleasure Donny! Chime in any time & we'll do our best to assist along the way!
@@JoshtheRVNerd yes for sure, I watch probably every video of those believe my f150 will pull. WE have rented a few in the last year to figure out what our LIST would be....Impressed by this one
I think I'd like it with the hide a bed sofa
It's available!
Yippee YOU did it. The perfect couple trailer. Send one to Texas for me LOL
You got it! Check's in the mail, right? :)
Would it be possible to replace the outdoor kitchen set up with a washer dryer?
Not from the factory. The W/D suppliers advise not to put them that far back behind the axles also due to the bouncing in that area and how it is too hard on the appliance
I've seen people do it.
Lisa
First here’s some updated footage of this one m.th-cam.com/video/170xnFqsK0A/w-d-xo.html
And yeah.. dinettes don’t fit a lot of folks.
Congratulations on a great RV Jeff! Doesn't matter where you bought -- you're always welcome here. Keep the comments coming! :)
That's why you almost never see W/D prep on a sub 30ft camper
and only rarely even then
Concise yet thorough tour of a well designed camper for couples. Well done Josh, as always! You should write a book ya know!
"readin's fer rich folk" lol :)
We have have a 2011 Freedom Express. It has been a great travel trailer. No issues at all.
They're a brand I'm definitely personally sweet on
Love the floor plan but... the door on the outdoor kitchen is a potential headnocker. How about L-R opening or have full vertical with magnets? Slam latches too...
Only if you’re about 6’6” or taller. I walk under them pretty easily
Left right doors are wind magnets which is tricky when you have cooking spaces
Freedom Express did an amazing job on this floorplan! Especially adding the free heat fireplace!!
Agreed. I have actually walked back out just to look thru this one twice this week already.. and it's only tuesday. They just nailed this one.
@@JoshtheRVNerd I just wish it was there when I was just there!🤬
@@NewVisionLCS So come on back ;)
@@JoshtheRVNerd You know I'll be back! I put the link on the other post from 6 days ago I made so that you can see it of you want to watch it!
We're only a phone call away. These things are on wheels. We'll get one parked right in your driveway given the opportunity! :)
All the other models have solar with a compressor fridge. But here it ain't standard? How you work that compressor fridge then?
Perhaps some clarity will be beneficial - Rockwood pairs their 12v fridges automatically with solar and an inverter. Nearly no other brands do that as the majority of people still use their RV for park camping more than anything (where no solar is needed)
Thankfully these models are all solar prepped so they can still work for those with an off-grid focus
We like this layout a lot! Nice job! Why do some trailer this size have just one door while others have two?
Important to note the language -- side wall vs. rear wall
I try to clarify when I can, but I don't want my videos to grind to a halt with too many minutia clarifications like that (which I already do plenty of times!)
is there a solar and inverter package for the 252rbs
Freedom has a 175w Package with MPPT controller but I don't believe there's an inverter included
Love the theatre seat!!!! Great job!!
TY TY TY!!
My vote goes to the theater seating.
This is really nice
Sold! I'll be seeing you guys in about 3 weeks or less to purchase!
🙌🏻
USB ports are 12 V power and so they work off the battery. The household plugs require park power or a generator
The fridge shown here is optional
*CAMP KITCHEN:* Removal is not optional, but very little is "bolted down" and easily removed if needed.
Josh, why do RV manufactures put the entrance door near the bed? Seems to me the door should be placed near the bathroom opposite end of the bed.
They build them both ways Because people like them both ways
We are just wondering if Freedom Express now comes with an accessory hitch on the back bumper? We owned one years ago and it was not even an option back then. We would like to add a bike rack.
They do not at this time
I want to see a head to head comparison between the 248RBS and the 252RBS
There's not much to compare
* 248: A few inches shorter, lighter weight, U-Dinette, Jack Knife Sofa
* 252: A few inches Longer/heavier, 2-Bench Dinette, Theater Seat Option (or hide-a-bed). Also picks up a little extra counter space due to the longer length
Other than that they're basically the same RV
LOVE IT LOVE IT got to have it.
My wife wants a "Freeda"!!! :)
Thanks Josh, you are going to cost me money :)
Sorry not sorry lol
If I'm gonna be in there with my hubby, I would DEF need the max air!!
LOL -- not going to even ask why :)
Ive said this before I know, but this is another one of my favorites.
@@susanhillard6190 Say it a million times. I don't care. Say it EVERY TIME :)
Love, love, love!!!
Great floor plan I just did not like those string adjusting curtains. They need to be replaced with roller shades.
Need to check to see if they did that on 2022’s
Josh love your RV reviews, you asked for comments on things missed could you say the TV size in your RV reviews .
Thx David!
Great design. This really is a winner.
I think so too!
Just wondering...if sitting on couch could you have a conversation with the cook? Wouldnt that far TV make for straining to hear?
I suppose it depends on how loud you prefer things and how good your hearing is. My father struggles with any sort of background noise, but I'm able to filter it out pretty readily Unless i'm Tired :)
Josh, why are the axles only rated at 3500lbs each for a total of 7000lbs when the trailer has a 7600lbs gvwr. Wouldn't the axles be overloaded allowing the insurance company to void a claim should something happen. Please advise. Thanks,
I'd have to first verify the axle ratings. By the numbers that definitely doesn't make sense.
Will that dinette table fit in the space underneath the bed? It seems like it would be nice as a secondary eating area.
The dining table's big feet give it great stability, but make it probably a little too bulky to slide in there. It MIGHT work... i'll have to check that
The good news is that outdoor picnic table fits easily!
Great new floor plan. I have been looking at the Winnebago 2401RG but this is a nice option as well!!
Coachmen has been killing it with that rear kitchen for a LOOOOONG time as well -- you can see one here th-cam.com/video/2MTNJWFYNwg/w-d-xo.html
Wow, this is a great unit! I watched enough of your videos, I decided to subscribe.
Welcome aboard!
@@JoshtheRVNerd thank you.
Newbie question here. What type truck would you recommend to pull this RV?
Now what's your personal preference?
I know I need a crew cab, I have a huge German Shepherd who likes to stretch out in the backseat, so its just the 2 of us.
XL SUV with towing package, half ton would do it just fine
Do they make a larger toy hauler with the no neck wrecker tv features the azdel the living area features and 12v frig/solar and the cpap friendly bedroom?
Short answer: Yes
We do not have something fitting that exact description among our lineup at this time however.
Great..now maybe in a 5th wheel freedom express with theatre searing and table and chairs with counter space and wash/dryer hookuos? Did i ask for too much?
Freedom won’t be offerings FWs unfortunately. I wish they did, but Chaparral seems to occupy that role for Coachmen
Does iit have never adjust brakes?
I've not seen an RV produced for a while that doesn't have those (or an equivalent feature) -- in our lineup at least
Would the table fit between the two bed storage areas? If it doesn’t, that would be my suggestion. You could play games, do crafts, work on a computer (office) etc. It would give you an entire new functional space during the day!
I think you're referring to the under-bed space
A folding-leg style table might. It's close obviously
Now I do like this. No complaints
Wow! That's awesome! Always let us know what you'd like and what you'd change
And of course.. if it's perfect like this one is apparently :)
Great floor plan for this one. I'd make just a few simple changes that I believe would make it better for me and quite possibly many others.
Well now you've piqued my curiousity. What sort of changes?
Love this RV!! 😍 I would love to see the windows trimmed out with side covers over the shade strings. 😁
It's funny -- some people love them. Some really don't. I like the light blocking, but dislike how they sometimes feel... invasive? I dunno. Hard to describe.
@@JoshtheRVNerd I just think it looks finished out better.
Josh, could you get them to add a wardrobe slide as the Rockwoods have to this model? You seem to have their ear. That would make this 252 even more awesome!
I have always kind of watched to take a model like this and extend the slide into the bedroom for storage..
