We have the 2020 version and love love love it. Only thing we would change i will be doing this weekend and that is swap out the trash USB ports. Every single one died our first time out and were replaced under warranty and all died again. And only a phone was ever plugged into them. I also wish campers came with an Inverter perp as in wires run from battery to under the pass-through or something. Aka also being done this weekend. Brooms and swiffers could easily have some hooks to hang in that big hanging closet. Is that little kickout cabinet going back to the bedroom removable? Or is it also hiding like the fresh water fill line on the outside? Wife didn't like that addition. With so much storage I can't see it being needed unless that added it to hide something.

First of all I'm impressed you're considering the inside vs outside of the RV and how they interact. Most folks don't have a great concept of it. Good review. A couple of comments: 1. If that's a flat roof I hope they don't use the inner tube roof ( aka rubber roof ) fiberglass #1 TPO #2 and aluminum #3 and no more . Also with an awning over 15 feet you really need a support rafter for the flexing that takes place when going down a bouncy road. Its super easy to get around the bed to move to the bathroom at night, We cannot hear the furnace running but we feel the heat... and the water pump is whisper quiet compared to our older 1997 trailer! We bought this unit as our retirement plan for camping and traveling and we are super happy with it.. Only thing we want to do is add a slide topper and I wish our dealership had recommended it when we were purchasing... they really didn't talk up accessories.... The 2 step solid step is amazing we have friends who have 3 or 4 or 5 steps to get into their units and they are not the solid step but the fold up and with any knee issues or anything we have seen a few tumbles this is easy to get in and out of! Overall functionality of the kitchen is also great as i was worried it wasn't enough workspace but so far its been good!!! Looking at specs for freedom express says tongue weight is 500 lbs. but from watching other videos, the actual tongue weight has been much heavier. I’m going to towing with an eco diesel and I like the 24rks but I am limited to 1140 lbs payload. So what is the actual dry tongue weight? Thanks and enjoy Josh’s videos

    • @JoshtheRVNerd
      @JoshtheRVNerd  3 ปีที่แล้ว

500lbs is the hitch weight of the base model with no cargo. It's the only consistent metric they can provide. Once loaded it will certainly be higher (true of any RV of course).
The actual hitch weight will vary by individual based upon cargo volume and load distribution. The only way to know that figure is to load & scale it.

Something about the white exterior on these bugs me. I understand why they went to white for the thermal benefits but I really like the look of our 2018 287BHS with the tan and white. That said, any reason they couldn’t do silver vs white? I think a silver wit me a little metallic in it would look sharp, different, and be reflective for combatting direct sun. We own the 2020 version of this model. It's a great first camper for us! Pros: Storage, storage, storage. More kitchen counter space than some bigger campers. big windows for nice breezes. Huge awning. Cons for us: the jackknife sofa isn't that comfortable and certainly NOT as a sleeping space. Also, the TV doesn't rotate as much as we'd like, so only the right side of the sofa is comfortable for viewing. We are considering the 252RBS for a little more room, but we've taken our 246RKS out on 9 trips in 9 months and have enjoyed it!

Josh: Nice to see another trailer that’s a “travel trailer” i.e. able to be fully used while in transit without deploying the slideout. But his travel trailer is 28 feet long. Could you please explain the break point between “smaller travel trailer” as distinguished from medium or larger larval trailers? Is it length? Weight? Towability? Or some combination of factors? As a camping child from the 1960’s, I always thought that “small trailer” came in at 20 feet or less.
Right? Wrong? Or just the impression and mindset of a geezer and Luddite?

Love the wide axle; that should make it a dream to pull. Another great vid! Now I'm tied between this one, the Rockwood Mini Lite and a Winn. The furnace itself is hiding under one of the dinette benches, so by being in the middle of the RV they didn't need to string vents all over. Most of them just aren't readily visible from my tall-guy camera angles
Slide is a Happi-Jac system. It's something that's been around for a long, long while. Often used before schintek existed. A few brands have stuck with them due to the proven track record they have.

Hey Josh... Great video. I noticed that there was only the one sticker for the solar prep system in the front storage space. Does the 246RKS have a interior location for the remote solar monitor? I have seen that interior sticker on similar models like the Jayco 212QB and the new Cougar 22MLS in your videos to locate the communication cable and the solar monitor. Also, that slide switch inside that cabinet next to the kitchen area looks like a pain. Do you have to "walk the slide" in and out by holding down the slide button? Keep up the great videos and remember Spring is coming!!!

    • @JoshtheRVNerd

Freedom seems to only be positioning that in the pass-thru currently. It does seem interesting not being able to monitor that from inside the RV
The slide switch in the box itself is unconventional, but since the slide is so shallow it's no big deal. You really never have to move. Just extend your arm a bit. Saves the trouble of running wiring all thru the RV's structure

So technically yes, but actually no. Allow me to explain lol
Mfgs sometimes use the “absolute base weight” on their sites - the base model weight before any options
The hiccup is RV mfgs have this common thing where they have “forced options packages” that while technically options they’ll always be present.
They’re required to list the weight of a base model. Some builders use the weight after forced options. Some do not.
      It’s... weird

It's possible with a layout like this, but the entire slide would need to be redesigned into a deeper super slide. That's usually where something like this one comes into play th-cam.com/video/RoEHndIyFYE/w-d-xo.html

Just trying to shake things up. It's kind of a pain flipping my camera setup around a bit. Is it distracting, or do you like that change?

Too many competitors offer true theater seating and a TV mounted directly in front of those seats. The futon sofa here is a deal breaker even through I like the rest of the floorplan.

Appreciate Hatlett' RV wt & stats given. Would like a sliding or regular bedroom door, if Freedom Express 246RKS can, please. We always like Haylett RV videos, great job. We're not far from you, maybe someday come.

Eagle and Cougar are the most obvious fit for that kind of description. Here's a few samples

I don't usually like small rigs but this one is Impressively Clever in it's design and features, Josh. Innovative in the furniture, cabinetry and bedroom design also. Again Impressive indeed. Thank you for showing this model Josh. bill in Florida

The opposing slide to the dinette gives great siting space for this size unit. This is a great rk , great review as always.

Small & light with BIG Feels! The windows/light colors/tall ceiling give it a far more spacious feel I think vs. most brands that build a similar layout. Makes ALL the difference for me personally

It's funny -- when people first tune into my channel it's not uncommon for them to politely point out how I think everything is so great
But after watching for a while many of them start seeing what I'm talking about -- each camper has that ONE SPECIAL THING that makes you love it

It just landed so I haven't had the opportunity to get that posted yet. Give our team a call at 800-256-5196 & ask for Aaron. I'll let him know you'll be calling so he can get with the manager to have figures ready for you
