When I started cycling I did it for mental health, and to improve my overall health and lose weight. But I was worried about my size (as well as what it would look like wearing lycra). I was also worried about climbs (you know...power to weight ratios and all that), but now I just see them as a slightly harder challenge than for the skinny young whippersnappers! Pleased to say that I dropped 15kg pretty fast, and now (to use your terms) I don't give a shiny what others think. I am just doing it for myself, and to enjoy it!
I was just watching you battling through Lyon earlier today and suddenly you are on the Ferry! I had to chuckle at you both talking about moderation as you chugged through another successive 250-300 km day. But I think you made the points about weight very well. Cycling is weight obsessed rather than energy obsessed, being sensible and letting your body settle. But we say cycling and if we step back we live in a World obsessed by appearance. How do magazines continue to get away with using skinny teenagers as the ideal shape for adult women? Anyway, what a roller coaster few days you have had. Nobody talks about saddle sores and I began to think it was only me who got them sometimes. But my I felt your pain and don't know how you kept going. My big take-away was the teamwork, both now and historic. You don't always see eye to eye but a little later you are laughing it off, backing each other up and conquering all. I don't really know your history but Kyle sounds like he was a rock in your past and you have both got into this cycling lark to support each other. The Surrey Hills await you. its the little kickers that get to you, You have done yourselves proud.
In September 2022 4 of us cycled from Dieppe to Paris and back……….L’Avenue Verte. We found, like you, that it was not easy to find any food outlets open………However, an interesting cycle-ride. Your videos are very interesting……..Thank you. 7 of us cycle in the Netherlands every year……..Lovely and flat!!!!!
Congrats both on your journey so far. I always try and guess what you are gonna buy next to eat. Lol. I'm glad you are doing it 2gether, and have each other to lean on. Special couple. 🙏 respect😊
Really really amazing. U both make me laugh😂. What your doing is so fantastic. Dont underestmate what a fantastic achievement the ride is. Many thousands of people would have given up at the 100k mark. Super athletes both 🎉🎉🎉😊
Wow you two lovely people haven't eaten or slept well during the French leg of your journey. We can't wait to see Kyle's face when he finally gets a full English 😊
Another fabulous video so awfull to see you upset but you are both fighting on and doing a great job , I watch your videos before I go to work on night shift and it brightens my night thankyou amy and Kyle
Honestly, I don't know how you keep going, you must be so drained emotionally and physically. Amazing job both of you and raising so much to help folk, very admirable. Think Strictly will be after Kyle with those cancan skills 😉
Cheers to both of you!! I realized prior to this journey you both would be seriously tested. You Hudson's are doing very well. Amy, your positive attitude is your strongest asset to get to the finish. Keep up the good fight! Cheers, Pjw
Doing a great job Amy & Kyle, despite getting "mugged" for the most important meal of the day ! :( Weather also "misbehaving" Hope the blister goes for a long walk off a short pier Amy Well done you two Virtual hug to Chester
You two are incredible, riding the waves of this challenge together. You also, perhaps unintentionally, made a valuable point about "basal metabolic rate" which is different for everyone.
I take my hat off to you two, you just take everything in your stride. The enthusiasm you have for such a demanding trip is amazing !! I am doing an off road charity ride on Saturday and the doubts are starting to set in...what you guys do is amazing ❤
That guy coming out of that kebab shop nearly got splattered,it’s a immense very hard adventure you’re both doing but have to say was saddened to see Amy upset but she bounces back quickly hope u get your blister sorted definitely a emotional roller coaster this trip it’s really funny though top pair u two stay safe and happy
Buy yourself a small bottle of tea tree oil, best thing I discovered on you tube. Use after ride, pre ride or anytime, the healing is very very quick! As a saddle sore sufferer I feel your pain! Keep going though as I know you will :)
I second that, but cut it 50% with some olive or baby oil, or even coconut oil. Straight is a bit strong on the skin. Normally a wash has about 10 drops to a litre of water.
You guys can can do it😉You are both crushing it, you have taken on a very tough challenge and you should be proud of what you have already achieved😊Can't wait for the next episode👍Toby is a legend for jumping on a bike 4 days before a tour like that👌
You guys are amazing what a team, you’re so courageous.. your determination and fighting spirit is exemplary.. truly incredible.. chapeau guys 🚴♀️🚴🏻👍💪💪 I’ve struggled with my weight to be honest but since going from 62kg to 65 I’m starting to feel much stronger on my bike.. I’ve had body dysmorphia for a long time many years and just think it’s how I am.. Pete
Keep going inspirational pair I’ve not cycles even as far as your shortest day I hope everyone watching has.a £1 for you keep going and thanks for sharing ❤
I've really enjoyed your videos ever since seeing your bikepacking/biketouring the Tour de France adventure, earlier this year! About those punctures: have you ever considered running tubeless? It's SO good. And if you pick up a large enough puncture that doesn't seal on its own, you can jam a "bacon strip" in there, and it works a treat! So much faster/more convenient than changing a tube on the side of the road. Plus you can still carry a spare tube to cover the extremely rare case that you've got a puncture that you can't get to seal. I'd highly recommend considering it!
Whenever I do a tour of a week or more, I plan a rest day to rest my body. It makes the remaining ride more enjoyable. It’s nice if you make it in a place that you would like to explore. You can also wash kit and start the next day with clean dry kit!
You are so brave ! It's a good idea to follow the canals, we always have cycle paths that run along them, they are nice routes, maybe not for riding too fast but for peace of mind it's excellent and these canals are long!!! Canal de la Marne au rhin, canal du midi, canal du rhone au rhin, etc. Nice way to travel France for vacation !
You guys are amazing. Amy, you need to get some stretch plasters, and put some cotton wool and gauze on your sore spot, and you both need to buy and use energy gels for when you are wilting on the last few miles. I have used them regularly on my long rides and sportives and they really pick you up when your flagging. You can almost see the finish now - you can do it, I'm so proud of you.
Pegasus bridge.... the cafe right next to it was the first building liberated on D-Day. There was a 4 year old girl that day and she still owns and runs the cafe now.... Madame Gondree. Did a bikepacking tour along the beaches and museums last year ending at Pegasus Bridge. Amazing experience.
Everything we all do on a bike tour/bikepacking race is an alternate universe where the normal rules of life don't apply. That also translates to what we all eat while on the road. There is no need to "explain away" your road diet to anyone as anyone who is judging you has absolutely no idea what it is to be out on the road for days on end.
My word, Kyles face at the beginning when Amy said their breakfast was rubbish. It spoke volumes as to what an undertaking this is, as did Amy's tears. I wonder if you ever considered cutting a day short, or somehow arrange for a rest day. You must have battled doubts and worries on that adventure.
Blister plasters are the best, you will literally forget about it. In the evening after a shower/bath use baby powder to prevent blisters by drying the skin.
Please try tubless. I use Continental GP5000 ASTR's. I had 8 puntures in my rear tyre last winter and it lasted the whole winter, (3000 miles) and all I had to do was top up the sealant (MucOff). No pinch puntures and the last time I had to fit a tube on the side of the road was two years ago. I ride 16,000 miles a year and have lots of punctures but the sealant saves you so much hassel.
Always skip the hotel breakfast (unless it is a buffet, where you can see what you're getting). When in doubt, there's always Haribo to get you to the next boulangerie!
Hi Amy and Kyle. What an amazing effort. Incredible. I am planning St Malo Nice with my 15 year old next summer. What are your top tips for stuff to and not to take. We are doing it in 2 weeks.
Do you know about Pegasus Bridge? It was the first objective taken in WW2 on D-Day. By the British. A British soldier died taking that bridge, and he was the first casualty of the landings. British glider planes landed only yards from the bridge. I've tried tubeless and hated it, overated in my opinion. Tubes are just less hassle and no mess.
Great adventure and great cause. Hate to poke at you guys, but maybe consider dropping the "no lunch" before halfway" rule. Front load calories early in the ride. Anything eaten in the last hour is going towards recovery not the current ride.
You're chucking some big daily miles in. TCR next year? As for France and food, my wife and I cycled to our French home from Bath. We had romantic ideas of coffee stops and lunches on our way down . The reality became supermarkets and occasional boulangaries because France was closed! Not nice having a blister there though, also, I'm not that tough. SNCF for me!
Hello, enjoying your videos. I am planning to fly into Heathrow next August and ride to the Ferry, then to Belgium to visit family and then ride through France and Spain. I am wanting to ride 100 miles a day minimum hotel to hotel, pavement only. This will be my fist long venture.. im not worried about the distance as I have competed all my life. Question about hotels, do you reserve them ahead of time? Thanks, Daniel from Las Vegas Nevada.
From the outside looking in (and greatly enjoying) it feels like an extra couple of days at least would have helped a great deal. I presume your schedule made that impossible, would you have done so if you could?
Tyres - you said you use 'duros' ? I use Gatorskin Hard Shells, but find them not as good as they were. Are you aloud to say what you use please?! Gosh, I felt for you so much with saddle sores. Owweee.
Yes sure they’re the panaracer agilist duros - I’ve had one puncture in over 6000 miles using them (swapped them to a new pair after 4000ish miles) so they’re a yes from me 👌 you can use ZAMY10 for 10% off ☺️
The French don't really understand breakfast. That sounded worse than the Travelodge Box of Disappointment breakfast. Coco pops…! Living the dream
I admire your dedication . Anywhere between 30 and 60 miles I'm looking for a place to hang my hammock and put my feet up.. Well done.
Haha thank you! We are a little crazy 🤪

Sending you big hugs, that was obviously very hard. Back in Blighty now so nearly done!
Your determination to tackle those grueling distance is extra ordinary. Luckily you have a partner to support the sport you love. Ride safe.
Thanks, yes so grateful for that 🙌
Love your effort to learn phrases from the languages of each country you visit. Hopefully, a language app collaboration somewhere in the future 💡
Fantastic work you both should be so proud of yourself 🚴🚴🫶🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Excellent video of trials and tribulations. We always stop at that same restaurant at Caen port before catching the ferry.
For blisters try some patches of kinesio tape its excellent for that, doesn't do much else but really helps to stop chafing.
Terrific job you two! Enjoy the updates!
Thanks for watching along 🤍
Well done both ❤ doing great ❤

BUONGIORNO pretty Amy. Ride safe always.

Awesome! Thank you!

Beware of talcum

crossing France in three days from Montgenèvre to Caen essentially, this is impressive. I would need 6-7 days personally. Well done!
Thank you 🤍
I went tubeless, never regret it far fewer punctures
I had to skip riding my bike yesterday & then had 4 donuts just to prove I do not have an eating disorder. 🐷
Always skip the hotel breakfast (unless it is a buffet, where you can see what you're getting). When in doubt, there's always Haribo to get you to the next boulangerie!

What was Mr Pinarello riding when he came last? Would it have been a rivals bike. Great work guy's proud of you both 🇬🇧🇬🇧
come on you amy and kyle bonjour to ya well done
Total respect . There is "TOUGH " , and then there is Amy and Kyle...
Didn't you notice in Chartres the Cafe behind you across the square was called L'Ami ....fate 😊
Ahh no didn’t even notice! 😅
Stuff your wet shoes with newspaper next time. It will draw out nearly all the water. Well done both of you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you!! ☺️

@@amy.cycling.adventures 😂👍🏻 go for it. It’s also on my post retirement list. 👍🏻
Hi you 2 why not go tubeless probably work better.your both R doing really good keep going the finish line is close

Forget the chamois dream and buy Drapolene cream,an old brand that works rather than a marketing con.
What brand is the jersey you’re wearing with the A on the shoulder?
Assos ☺️
Crackin' 👍👍👍👍👍👍
The French don't really understand breakfast. That sounded worse than the Travelodge Box of Disappointment breakfast. I think protein is overlooked by most and I get why you wanted those chicken breasts. I sometimes carry some emergency cheese on long rides. I thought Kyle was going to swallow that savory pizza thing whole at first.
Can Can is French. Best performed by Buster Bloodvessel with Bad Manners and can be seen here on TH-cam.

If I worried about my weight I’d have stopped cycling years years and years ago 😂
Let’s just say I don’t fit into many Italian cycle jersey sizes.
👍👍👍👏👏👏💋🇦🇹❤️✌️
I feel so bad for you will all those punctures. Please try tubeless. 🙏 you can always go back.
Yippeee🍎🍔🍰🍌👍
sorry to hear about your blister Amy, using some soothing cream and massage it with ice can help, brilliant job you 2 just beautiful.
Thanks so much 😊
to get accommodation along the way, how do you do it?? to make it cheaper for cyclists
Anyone found Toby on TH-cam?
Should be running tubeless.
... hardly ever need to stop
On gravel, yes a no brainer, but with the higher pressures they most likely use on the road and with luggage, it not always seals as one would hope.
