Me too! Didn't buy this exact model tho, isntead I went for the classic SKX 009 as I got the opportunity to buy it for $150 when they became rare and it was too much of an icon to pass on.
Many lament the demise of the beloved SKX. I did too at first until I tried on a 5KX. The quality of workmanship is amazing for the price point. I bought it immediately. I am a retired oceanographer with decades of experiencing designing, fabricating and deploying deep sea subsea equipment. A properly designed and implemented captive O-ring seal will simply not fail. This watch has proper O-ring seals at the crystal, case back and inside the stem. It is not a ISO certified dive watch but I would easily trust it to 200m the same as the SKX. Many screw down crown designs actually rely on the crown O-ring. This one doesn't and that's fine with me. BTW, SCUBA tanks and regulators rely on a single O-ring seal for the survival of the diver.
I just bought this watch last week as a gift for my father from my first salary. He was really happy and I think this is just the beggining , now I am thinking of making a collection of watches in future and I already had a good start after watching this review.
@Johnny's Reviews Hey Johnny. It feels like I'm asking a stupid question I should already know the answer to, but how do I ensure my Seiko 5kx doesn't stop running overnight when not on my wrist? Should I wind it roughly 30 times before I go to bed? Will this ensure maximum power reserve so that it keeps running properly overnight? I have this same watch as well as the orange dial variant, and both have stopped working overnight at times, so either the movement is faulty, or the power reserve has wound down on me overnight and stopped when off my wrist. I appreciate the feedback if you're able to to reply when you get a chance that'd be great as obviously it's not ideal to have to keep worrying about my watch stopping on me when I'm not wearing it when I'm asleep; thanks Johnny. My daughter bought me one for my birthday, and it’s a great everyday watch. It’s not too expensive that you have to worry about it , it looks great and feels great on the wrist.
Now thats a big wrist you got there mate! I have to say though, being a bigger watch, it does look better on your wrist! A seiko lx would look great on your wrist! Damn, now im jealous!!!
I just got one of these at Costco for $179. A watch I can swim with, and use as an everyday beater watch for $179. Difficult to beat the price. I have about 10 watches while this one is the least expensive, it fits in fine for what it is. I wouldn't dive with a watch with out a screw down crown. But, people don't generally use watches anymore anyway since dive computers have come along. But for swimming, kayoing etc, this watch is just fine. I was about to get a Seiko quartz would have been fine for what I was after but when I saw the automatic for $197 I went with it. Now where will I find the cash so I can add a nice high end Grand Seiko Spring Drive to my collection also?
I really like that green one too. Just managed to get myself a Pepsi one on Ebay, so I'm now keeping my eye open for the green.....and a load of other watches too....Buy one, and end up adding yet another to the list with this addiction!

I'll sell that but this one is just great. Love the green as I got it. I am checking out the reviews and kind of overlooked the accuracy as i hear this one is not the greatest one when it comes to accuracy.
After watching this review and reading the comments I just bought this watch for $297.50 can. I think that's the key if you look around on line you can probably find the Seiko 5 you like for $100 off and at that price you can forgive the lack of a sapphire crystal and screw down crown it will never be iconic because of not being certified and have the screw down crown but I liked the comments in here from an actual diver on that topic .I looked at the gmt and love it but they price for it must come down and it will.Because I bought this on sale it was only half the price of the gmt and that's a no brainer.

I have the same watch bought at the same place. I do like it but I would say that the bezel is a bit hard to turn and hard to grip when wet. Those are my moans and niggles on this watch and wouldn't mind picking another one when there is a flash sale.
No lume pip on the bezel, no screw down crown, no logo on the crown, not a sapphire glass. Also, please remove the "5" logo on a dial..Just Seiko logo is good.

Very good value for the money. You are right I love not having to worry too much about it if I'm messing around with tools etc.

I would like a Seiko 5 for Christmas. I love the pepsi (srpd53) but i am also considering a really nice green one (srpd61)

I have the same watch bought at the same place. I do like it but I would say that the bezel is a bit hard to turn and hard to grip when wet. Those are my moans and niggles on this watch and wouldn't mind picking another one when there is a flash sale.
