A couple of things I forgot to say: I feel my mindset over the last year has sapped a lot of my creativity, both in my riding and video subject matter. My hopes are that a bit more time to be able to think about videos should help me bring back some more creativity. Secondly I wanted to say thanks to my sponsors, especially Bird and The Ply Guys, I feel I haven’t done their support enough justification as I’ve been less likely to travel to ride these last couple of years, again this is something I hope I can rectify moving forwards :)
Sorry to hear what you've been dealing with. I have NEVER got the impression from your vids that your heart wasn't in it. You've always, without exception, made great content that I've always enjoyed.
As much as I respect your comment I know Ali it’s not that sort of a person who wouldn’t tell us about his personal or private life but realistically he doesn’t have to tell us about his personal or private life. That’s why I respect him and any other youTuber tells the subscribers what’s going on in their personal and private life to a certain extent
I think it shows what a pro he is, that none of us could tell he wasn't enjoying it. But I'm glad things are getting better for you, Ali. It takes a big person to reflect and seek improvement. I have chronic pain too, and I think I need to start doing exercises to sort it out!
I think your honesty has always been a big part of what people appreciate about you. You're videos have been a source of comfort for me and many others for a long time. Wishing you all the best!
Dear Ali, I know how mental problems can ruin a relationship. It happened to me too (major depression). It's easy to lose yourself, because of all the things you think you have to do. And when you've lost yourself, it's easy to lose your partner too. I know, it's easier said than done, but please take your time, do the things you like to do, and don't feel pressured to do things you don't want to do. I'm suffering from bipolar disorder. The last 3 and a half years were tough. And I had a couple of relapses. I'm finally doing better by living a calmer life. It was hard to accept, that I have to do smaller steps, than I did in the past. But that's what improved my situation. Also I wanted to tell you, that I love your videos. I ve been watching them for years. It's because of you, that I bought myself a street trials bike. Also, I love your unconventional humour! I'm sure, you'll be a great skills coach and I hope, you'll still upload lots of your great videos! Cheers from Germany Christoph
Sorry to hear everything thats going on, just know Ali, I would still watch if it was a 20 minute video of you eating some toast, don't ever feel pressured that the content you're putting out isn't good enough, we're all subscribed and watching for the same reason and thats because you're in it! look forward to 2025!
Dude, I feel the pain in your voice, but also the relief, and a hint of hope. We’ve never actually met, but I’ve been watching your videos for the last 6-7 years and strangely this video has hit me in the feels like I’m sat listening to an old friend. I hope these changes that are happening will lead to a better future for you, keep that chin up. Looking forward continuing watching where you go with things, and whatever the next videos include, regardless of how frequently they come.
No pity, no sympathy, you're an absolute legend Ali, keep your head high! Your videos from the early days through to now and everything in between have been an incredible inspiration for an old-timer trials rider from all the way in Australia. Love the content no matter what it is - riding, talking, walking, whatever. We're here through thick and thin. You're an OG and we're here for you!
There's a saying along the lines of 'sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to build yourself back up'. I'm 47, I've been in a similar position to you, the unfulfilled time, the relationship collapse, the depression. You seem to be tackling it all head on. The best piece of advice I can give you, and it is still something I have to remind myself, sometimes you will inevitably feel like you are going backwards, but always remember things are constantly moving, it might feel the same, but it isn't, it's different and how you deal with it can be different too. "You can't stand in the same river twice" is my wee reminder phrase for it.
Well done for sharing and giving an update! Thanks for the top quality content over the years and whatever your concerns - it certainly hasn’t shown in your videos from my perspective. Hope 2025 looks up for you and some of these plans fall into place. Look forward to the riding videos as and when you are able to and feel like it.
We love you Ali! This video must have taken great courage to make, and you must feel so much better for getting it all off your chest. All the best for 2025 and perhaps one day we'll cross paths once again, I've still got literally every trials bike I ever owned in the garage! Perhaps I'll resurrect them one of these days...! You keep being you, great plan for the year ahead.
Glad to hear from you again Ali! You're an autismo and that has a fair bit to do with the situation you are now in, I've got the certificate too and suffer the stubborness and inability to apply things I know will likely improve things, I find it easy to get stuck and waste days and then beat myself up about it - perhaps you do too. I appreciate that it's been a couple years of steady decline but it's no surprise this peaked in winter, in Scotland of all places, when daylight hours are very short - its a tough time. I started bouldering and climbing again a while back after six years off the wall due to shoulder issues. Arm pump in the alps is now not even a thing - full runs on the first day - yes bouldering makes your arms sore but it makes you strong! I told you to coach years ago and you said you didn't think you'd be good or dedicated - I still think you'd be great - you seemed pretty good at fostering Frasiers talent. Do some longer Sick edits - even if it's reusing footage from streetrides a lot of us have already seen - I love seeing you working a problem but a lot of people just want the money shot and simply haven't got the time for the struggle! Maybe add in some non bike vids perhaps collaborate with other weirdos that are great at their craft - I remember you sharing some shorts from bouldering years ago and I bet some of the people here would find that inspiring - especially given how much the sport has grown. Wow. I waffled.
You are still one of my favourites in the bike genre. I wish others would be as open and honest. TH-camrs sometimes seem to be a bit distanced from the reality of a regular person because they can only ever get feedback via the platform. Be grateful and notice that giving - virtually anything - helps feel better the most, for me at least it has worked a long time.
Post more stuff like this… I’m a 51 year old skateboarder ( I don’t even have a trials bike ) and I watch your videos. Do what you want, we’ll all watch. 👍
The trial community cares Ali 👊🏼. So many relatable aspects of this video, always good to be on a level with your followers. All the best for 2025. With the gym and a positive mindset I’m sure you will come out the end of it happy, healthy and inspired!
43yr old grumpy northern bastard here. You're a sound lad Ali, and an inspiration. And not justbin riding ability. If your next sponsor has deep pockets and you find yourself in Queenstown NZ then the beers are on me. Need a serious "therapy" session down the pub
Chin up bud. Personally I miss your mtb videos. Living in Glasgow I used to really enjoy your scottish mtb videos. Really looked like you were having a blast, that and I could easily go and ride the same trails. Have you every considered setting up shop and building a community around that? MTB, Trails, sales, repairs, coffee and beers...?
Hey man! Your long lost mate from Canada here. Just do you man! Mental health is the most important thing. Sometimes change is the best thing that can happen. Much love and respect for you no matter what happens in your life and on this channel
I'm genuinely sorry to hear about you and Jane. Two lovely people, hope things work out for both of you (who gets custody of the cat 🫨) I have watched your channel for years, you've grown so much as a person, and I've never seen you as grumpy. Look forward to February.
Contents always been good, learnt alot from you over the years, chest out chin up lad, do what you wanna do, mtb, trials, downhill etc, pretty sure whatever you produce people will watch, remember its not always about what's in front of the camera, its about what's behind and who it is operating the camera. 💙
Being that open must have been hard! Especially with everything you were and are going through. I wish you all the best and hope that everything is going in a direction you are happy with. I really enjoy your videos even though i dont know anything about trial riding (i stick to road and gravel). You always seem determined to finish what you started even if it involves a lot of mistakes and failures. That honesty is refreshing to see!
Thanks for the update. I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a rough time. But I'm glad you're taking the required steps to feel better both physically and mentally. Your community here will always be here and your openness, as others have said, shows us how much you trust us to understand that life is not a straight forward point A to B style thing. Take care.
I'm sorry you're going through this Ali, that's a LOT to handle. Please know that you have a lot of people here that will help you. Things will get better. I've also not noticed you being less enthused in recent videos and I've been watching old and new videos as a recent returner to trials.
Thanks for sharing with us Ali! It takes a lot to be able to talk candidly like this to anyone, let alone your whole fan base. Great to hear you're making progress, we'll all still be here watching, your videos are always great. Coaching sounds like a great addition to your repertoire, hopefully that can help you diversify! Speaking of coaching, not sure if you'd be up to it or it gets in the way of what you'd coach people in, but an explanation video of the exercises to avoid going down the same neck pain route as you've done might be super helpful for a whole stack of us riders. All this time I suspected maybe you had some underlying injury and just hadn't detailed it out but were working through it, to find out it's most likely caused by a muscle imbalance from riding is good since it should be repairable and that you know the solution makes it an even better outcome. We know you can put in the work and get yourself to where you want to be!
I've been following you since before covid! I remember watching your front wheel pivot tutorials and being in awe of your balance and flow! I got out of the Marines 290 percent disabled, and I feel you on the struggles chronic pain brings. It takes so much cognitive load away from being able to enjoy the parts of life that aren't pins and needles. You've got this, and your passion for riding helped me find my metaphorical legs. Thank you.
Thank you for the candid update. I've been watching this channel for years and messing around on trials bikes since the 1990s, and the combination of retro bikes (or bikes as we used to call them) and creative riding in terms of style, locations and lines make your videos consistently great viewing. I can't say I ever got the impression that you weren't feeling it while riding in any of the videos either, so I don't think that is likely to have contributed to lower views. The really frustrating thing about human psychology is that, stupid as it sounds, motivation really only kicks in after you've already made the changes you were hoping to be motivated by, so hopefully you're on a self reinforcing upward trajectory now. Social media is, frustratingly, the most damaging thing to have happened modern society, and we need more people talking honestly about things not being okay to balance out the relentless barrage of fake influencer brainrot. The most important thing that keeps me watching is that your videos and commentary are still genuine and honest, not the overproduced corporate stuff that the big money riders are forced into in the name of more clicks. Given your riding at times genuinely looks like sorcery that honesty is all the more impressive. All you can do, in fact all any of us can do, is to 'keep on keeping on', to quote the legendary philosopher Joe Dirt 😀.
Hang in there buddy, difficult times never last. All your videos are always really entertaining and something I really look forward to. Hope the new year really brings you what you want.
I enjoyed hearing your reflections. I always think it's brave when people allow themselves to be vulnerable and share when they're struggling. It is an unfortunate side effect of all social media that people are given the impression that everyone is leading a perfect life except them. So, I am sure you've helped many people by sharing. I watch you with my partner, and whether you post regularly or not, we will continue to watch. I do think you're being too hard on yourself, and I hope moving forward, you show yourself more compassion. Good luck with the coaching ❤
Sorry to hear that you and Jane have parted ways, I can only imagine it must have been hard, but as one door closes others open and it’s nice to hear your keeping a positive outlook. I feel as I got older I was becoming more stubborn grumpy and set in my ways and I’ve had to learn myself some stuff won’t change, some things will, to appreciate what I have and not worry about what I don’t. I come to watch the Ali clarkson channel and if it’s not all sunshine and rainbows that’s fine cause that’s real life and like you used to say it is a channel about you what you get up to and bikes are involved too which is cool too. Im looking forward to the next video and the next step in the Ali story!
Respect, totally genuine guy. Great sense of humour. I can't test handlebars any other way than the Clarkson method. If I get to see part of your journey of healing mentally and physically it'll be just as enjoyable as any other retro rebuild. 😊
Look at all this support in the comments! Amazing 💜 You're super brave for opening up so much and I respect that a lot. I for one still want to hang out with you man. My life is pretty carnage-y at the moment too (partly related to another Jane 😂) but let's make some more full nerd content this year 😎 Sending positive vibes your way and best wishes for a fantastic healing journey 🙏
Chronic pain can really put a hamper on your mood, all day every day. I've struggled with my neck myself over the years. Whenever I've been able to see some progress it's had a huge impact on every aspect of my life, including my grump ;) Also, I've enjoyed your channel all the way. It feels genuine, which is why it's a highlight of my week - aside from the bike skills, and the best voiceover scripts for bike builds this world has ever laid eyes on. You inspired me to buy an old trial bike (monty 220 from 2012 I believe), tear it apart and paint it a few summers ago, and dust off the old basic skills - which I enjoyed a lot.
I feel ya man, its very refreshing that you are so open and honest. Do remember though that you need to find that joy in your heart for yourself too! Much love and keep riding
I'm sure everything will work out for you Ali, you are a constant inspiration to make me get the trials bike out, your bike skills are amazing so I think a lot of people would be interested in coaching with you.
hey man no matter where you take take this channel im with you , you are one of the most genuine bros out here and im 51 and constantly being called thr grumpy old man and thats ok so be you bro
Thanks for sharing! I wouldn't mind if you added more variety to your content. I have always enjoyed your adventurous videos, like exploring locations and trails, your shows with behind-the-scenes impressions, Enduro races and trips, bouldering, and all those things. I miss those videos! Other than that, I've been following you for years, although I'm absolutely not into trails. This is because you're a very likeable and honest person, which I can relate to a lot. Cheers from Germany!
Hey Ali Clarkson! Its good to hear you taking actions to try to help the chronic pain. I've had chronic lower back pain for about 25 years and my weight has slowly climbed even though I have tried to keep moving via mountain biking. I figure some of my pain is coming from carrying 40 kg extra around. Ive been successfully dieting for 2 months and am inspired to see it through to victory. Cycling and the endorphins it creates along with positive thinking has helped me the defeat chronic depression that plagued the first 30 years of my life. Don't stop riding and don't stop moving towards positive goals! I hope it helps to know you are helping me and probably some others by sharing your journey. Ride ride ride!
Ali, I've only discovered you somewhat recently, but appreciate your openness and candor discussing what you have been going through. I wish you the best, and will stick with you through it - your skills are greatly appreciated and enjoyed, your humor, and your content. Looking forward to seeing how you make out in the future.
Thanks for the update Ali, knew you were having a tough tine of it recently and I was getting worried about you. Glad to see you've recognised the need for some changes and have started the journey towards those changes. Great to see all the supportive comments here on the channel and looking forward to seeing/hearing what comes next (whenever and whatever that may be)!
I can relate to gym panic attacks. Sorry you have to experience that but huge respect for being up front about your woes and prioritising your own needs and wellbeing. You remain a massive inspiration for me and I look forward to videos at your own pace and hope the creativity and enjoyment return in abundance!
thank you for this video! that gives me explanation and peace of mind. Always showing strong sides blurs reality. I wish you health and joy in what is to come!
Ali my guy you are a total inspiration! My suggestion is, do whatever you need to do to keep your love of this hobby alive. If that means uploading less often, that's an easy sacrifice to make. Sending positive vibes your way!
Also I gotta say you make some of the best tutorials on the internet, that's how I found you and how I learned to bunny hop. You should consider making some more videos to help people learn trials skills.
@@AdamWeldthanks Adam! I’d like to do more tutorial videos but I feel like I’ve done all I can do without specific obstacles, more advanced stuff needs specific things for me to explain properly (like Hooks, ideally I need a range of wall heights and angles or a pile of pallets, non of which I have easy access to).
Hey there Ali! I'm happy to hear from you! Actually, I didn't notice the lack of motivation in your vids. I've always loved them! Also it's very nice to hear that you started working on your chronic pain and I'm sure it's gonna heal eventually. Lastly, your friends are really lucky to have you! Keep doing what you love!
Fair play to you Ali for being so open with us and letting us know what’s been happening, must be difficult to talk about. I’ve personally not noticed that your heart wasn’t in your videos recently and have still enjoyed every video you’ve put out. Please don’t feel pressured into having to create videos every week, you need to do what’s right/suitable for you and your lifestyle. Wishing you all the best for the year ahead.
Wow, what a refreshing and humble upload - I feel like I really needed to see this. As much as I enjoy the biking content on an entertainment level, I could really relate to what was being said here. I have been/still am going through many similar issues myself. I know I for one enjoy the build content just as much as the riding stuff, if not more! Of course it is nice to see you out and about but I'm sure there are others who would just appreciate the scenery and a maybe bit of commentary. Not necessarily getting involved with a game of 'BIKE' but could maybe supply the commentary on Dunc vs. Ross?! I'd even enjoy more of this type of update video too! It certainly sounds like you're on the right track to make some beneficial changes and I really do look forward to any future content, whatever it may be and however frequent/infrequent - only do what's right for you! 👌🏻
Hey Ali Thanks for the explanation, I appreciate the openness and can understand your difficulties as I, aswell as others probably, have similar ones. I love to see you try and exit the pit :). Love the idea of trying the coaching road, I also coach and it brings me a lot of joy seeing my experience bring others higher up. Makes you feel valuable :). I hope maybe to see some video's in the same line as you've done before. Some ''how to's'' or other types of instructional video's on comp style riding. I, and probably other riders, could use the insight. Looking forward to a more spontaneous schedule, hope it brings peace of mind.
Sorry to hear the difficulties you have been going through Ali, life can be so cruel at times, your health must come first. Looking forward to the new you in the future videos Take care
I would sign up on day 1 to be trained by you. I am in Canada so UK is a bit of a distance for that lol. wish you the best Ali, i love your riding and building videos. Your bike skills and sense of humor are very underrated. Godspeed.
Right on, Ali. Always a good channel to watch. My daughter and I love watching the trials riding and bike building. I will admit, I am kind of the same - I don't generally take good advice until it's too late.
From one grumpy bastard to another i have misssd your videos but understand a break is sometimes required, look forward to some more videos from you i especially love the bike builds with the cute thief. The gym is something i need to start again, i have one i csn use when ever i want but its just trying to find time! Walking loads after we got a dog so thats my main exercise at the moment!
You making this video is really valuable. A lot of the value of TH-cam, in my opinion, is giving people a glimpse behind the curtain into what it takes to do a thing, such as the work to pull off a challenging line, instead of just slick edits of the successful attempts. Giving a further glimpse behind the curtain to the impact of doing physical endeavours without balance of activities, and from doing your hobby as a job is also valuable for people to appreciate their hobbies for what they are. Lots of people watch content like yours thinking that skilled people are something totally different from themselves because it's easier to believe that than to realise that it's mostly the result of hard work which they could probably also do. Seeing that you're a normal person who also skips some of the work (meaning your exercises for your neck) but are now holding yourself accountable for it for your own benefit as it's no one else's responsibility, that might be the kick up the arse that others need to do little things which somewhat improve their lives. Gaun yersel, lad.
Thanks for putting this video out. Sorry to hear about everything you’ve been going through. We’re all here for you and will always watch whatever you put out. How about some collab videos with other riders? Or review videos where you review new products (that you get sent for free to review)? Or videos where you help viewers upgrade their bikes? Keep on keeping on mate.. we’ll keep watching and supporters you whatever happens… As for the gym it gets easier I went through exactly the same thing feeling totally out of place, just stick with it. It really helped me with so many issues both physical and mental… props to you mate for your honesty.
I kind of relate to where your coming from Ali, I find it very hard to see others around me who have so much more get up and go attitude towards life when 5 out of 7 days I can hardly bring myself to do anything, don’t really have a social life anymore for a good 10 years now. Always feel tired & grumpy, then get angered towards myself because of feeling this way and having no motivation for anything.. plus when normal everyday life stuff gets in the way it can cause me to relapse in a sense. I think you should go down the route of coaching the next up and coming trials riders, it’s a good way for you to stay involved within the sport but less stress for your pain. You can still record it for TH-cam etc and also helping the younger generation will make you feel like your given back to the community that helped moulded you..
Listen Ali, just one thing, thank you, thank you very much... your effort is very much appreciated... I'm a grumpy bastard myself, and I know how hard it is to "jump over my own shadow" and get things done when I'm not in the mood or not feeling it.
It's not over-sharing. Don't dare say that. It is opening up and talking and it is essential. Especially helpful to those of your audience who may think, as you say, that you have the perfect job. Not many people in your position have the guts to talk about the pressures of performing alongside the challenges of everyday life. Kudos to you for having that courage. Keep the path.
Hey Ali, after watching your videos for nearly a decade at this point i thought i might leave a comment on this - I know/can imagine that being this open about mental stuff towards such a wide audience is certainly not an easy thing to do. I only got back to actively watching you sometime in 2022, since I dealt with depression and alcoholism from 2018 until that point. Despite everything going on in your life your videos were always a nice comfortable experience, often motivating me to pick up the old bike again myself - thank you for that. What i am trying to say right here is that as bad as things might seem right now, things will get so much better if you just keep on going and following your heart. For me personally the end of my long-term relationship and the doctor telling me that she is very worried about my drinking habits (a result of my depression at the time) were just the wake-up calls I needed to finally start living and enjoying life again after living in such a self-destructive, almost joy-denying manner for such a long time. Since then I've simply been following old passions again, connected with new (and old) people more and I have also been working on myself a lot - physically and mentally. All I've got to say is that life now is for me is better than it's ever been and as painful as all the experiences were at the time, they put me in the place I am in now and make me appreciate everything so much more than I otherwise would have done. I'm sure you'll find your way to make things work with riding as a job and I hope you'll take us along for the ride, it would be a quite the loss if you stopped doing your refreshingly different riding videos (I might not speak for everyone ofc, but your videos resonate with me a lot more than those of the 'wilder' creators nowadays). Anyways, all the best to you Ali and I hope to keep seeing more good stuff from you in the future. Take the steps carefully and one at a time, but take them!
Sorry to hear you’ve not been too good lately Ali. Really brave of you to post this video and you speak very eloquently about the various difficulties you’re dealing with. I hope getting this out in the open helps and take comfort that you’re definitely not alone in facing challenges, but you are doing a great job at making changes to deal with them🙂. For me, the reason I enjoy your channel is a mixture of your riding and your personality. I couldn’t care less how often you upload-I’d rather you were healthy and happier than uploading like a clockwork (but miserable) machine. Be happy, enjoy your riding and do it for the right reasons! Please don’t feel pressured from us lot to do stuff that is detracting from your happiness🙂. I hope the road ahead gets a bit less bumpy and look forward to watching whatever you choose to put out and whenever it feels to do so. Take care🙂
Whatever the future brings, I will always watch your videos and hit the like icon to support you in the one way I can. You will always be in my prayers. I hope and pray that things will go very good for you, for the rest of your life.
I am sorry to hear of your struggles, particularly the medical challenges with street trials riding. I am significantly older (and grumpier) than you and have had a similar medical problem. I am no trials rider but love to incorporate small trials moves into my mountain bike riding. In my case mountain biking bunny hops, drops and ledge ‘lifts’ on climbs all injured my shoulders (but not my traps!) by the pulling motion that heavily engaged my shoulders. Gym work also contributed to the shoulder injuries. I was treated for three tears in my left shoulder last summer. After a long rehab I am working on trying to use my shoulders less and core more as well as a different positioning on the bike (starting further forward) and different foot work on the pedals. I am basically trying to learn different techniques for all the trials-type moves in mountain biking that take away the strain on the shoulders. I would love to hear more details on how you are working to mitigate your trap use (maybe there’s a video in this😊) - it must surely be similar to mitigating shoulder use.
Wow. Thanks so much for the open and honest video. Sorry to hear bad news but its encouraging to see you are getting things in order! That is such an important stage in the process. I'm sure you'll approach your recovery with the same stubborn tenacity you display when trying to ride a difficult line. Don't apologize or assume you don't deserve sympathy. You built an entire community of people who care about your wellbeing. Their concern is a feature not a bug. Oh, and the content hasn't been bad. You are your own worst critic.
I'm looking forward to the builds! Always love those. Im happy to hear that the exercises and physical therapy are showing signs of improving your chronic pain Bummed to hear about the lady, but it sounds like it'll be for the best. Glad there wasn't a hard falling out, and hopefully there will be good that comes of it on both sides I think the upload schedule will be much better for mental health. I definitely understand the financial impact. Have you considered clip backlogs? Where you film when you can ride, edit when you can't, damn the schedule? Builds would certainly be an easy video with obvious narrative. Perhaps writing narratives down with a date to look back on so you don't lose the thoughts? Looking forward to your next few! Best of luck
As you read here, and should know elsewise, you have inspired many of us- my jitsie varial through tartybikes still outrides me- and I wouldn't have it if not for your information and channel (I would have an inspired, but they were out of stock when I ordered 4 years ago). I had some devastation in my own life a few years back when I physically lost offroad motorcycle racing as a hobby and an 18 year relationship with who I thought was the love of my life. I got into road bicycling, trials, and had done some bmx as a kid- so I got a new brakeless bmx to do street with, and am finding that I'm fitter and finding enjoyment in these newer hobbies in my 40s than what I thought was a comfortable paradigm in my early 30s. The aches and pains of age and life lived go on, but recuperative therapies like yoga and exercise help and grow strength over time. One of the things I always liked about your channel is your honest, real, and relatable approach. When I was a skateboarder, rodney mullen was my guy over tony hawk. My knees, low back, and hips can't do a lot of what they could 20 or 30 years ago, even if my mind and muscles want to. I'm glad you helped remind me how easy it is to ride a bike. =)
I feel for you buddy. last year was a bit of wash for me as well for similar reasons. I think a big thing that could really help is to try to work with other people, and do more collabs. Do not doubt your legend status, I'm sure anyone you ask, Danny, Duncan, Sam, Tom, Kara etc. would be stoke to go for a rip with you. I work freelance, and being a one man band really takes it out of you. I realized recently that when I'm working with other people, I come home much happier than the days I don't work with people. I find when you're grumpy, you tend to withdraw from people, when really you need to surround yourself with active, positive people more than ever. You're in a great position with great connections that I think that if you expand the channel from focusing mostly on your own riding, to using your platform to boost up other people, you will find great fulfillment there. Many of your best videos are when you're out with other people! Sam Pilgrim, Matt Jones, Tom Cardy, I think what has really driven them along are their supporting characters like Lewy, Jamie and Ben, and Kara. I think a lot of people love seeing progression of any kind, not necessarily just the most mind blowing stuff. Seeing Jamie nail his first backflip, or Kara conquer her fear of big gap jumps is just as satisfying and maybe even more inspiring to lesser riders than seeing Matt nail a double flip whip on ungodly huge jumps. also, as a shy, occasionally grumpy person who isn't always the best at reaching out for help, this is a great excuse to get yourself reconnected, and borrow some inspiration from others while yours may be temporarily slipping. so, lets see a ton more collabs this year! Who knows, maybe with your coaching you'll create the next Lewy, Jamie or Kara of trials!
Hey Ali, it's been a while since I've written a comment. But just wanted to let you know that as long as you're enjoying what you do, you're doing the right thing. Obviously it's hard to keep the fun in things if there is the pressure of making a living off of riding bikes and uploading that to YT weekly. So maybe trying to do more random stuff, pointing cameras at stuff you're doing anyways (gym, bouldering, random vacation vlogs) and just finding joy in the things you do will make the content be more interesting and easy to pull of to YOU. The views will follow after. Hope the very best for you mate. You've made my days better for years so I hope my words can brighten yours up a little as well. Anyways, stay positive mate the attitude you've got going on is the way to make things better! :)
Sorry to hear about the issues, buddy. If you do coaching, please pick up a GoPro every so often. I would be interested in watching TH-cam videos about what you get up to on a coaching day.
Sure 2025 will pick up for you! Really struck me in this video how much more comfortable you are talking to the camera, it's been amazing seeing your channel and you grow since you started things off so hope you're keeping sight of the positives through everything else.

I really hope, that things will turn the right way for you! These are hard times for a lot of people, I see that everywhere I look. Focus more on your health, both physically and mentally! I'll watch every video of yours, no matter how often you'll upload them :)
Serratus anterior strikes again. I've been rehabbing inactive lats and serratus along with over active traps for years. In the last year, with lots of time in the gym (and time off the bike), I've finally started making progress. All the rehab exercises in the world do no good if you can't feel the muscles that need to work, working. It's a grind, but it can be done. Good luck with the recovery and all the rest! I've been inspired by your riding for years, but I have to admit to watching less youtube, and less bike youtube specifically. I once used the platform for inspiration and skills development, but even though I still am not a particularly good rider, I've gotten my riding to a point where I'm happy enough to just enjoy the sport as a participant. The result is that I don't find myself as engaged with content, and what I am now watching is related to new hobbies so that I can explore the beginners mindset again. It's really nice to take on something new and be shit at it. The progress happens so rapidly as a beginner that it's great for the ego. The gym has been that for me the last 4 months, it's been really nice. Easy for me to say when it's not my job, but it seems like you've got a pretty good sense for how to work your way out of things. If you can, therapy might help too, that's another thing I've added to my schedule and it's been really eye opening and quite helpful for my depression, it's just tough to find someone who is a good fit.
Sorry to hear about your split. But I’ve never thought you was a grumpy person you create great videos. And stay strong. I help people with issues. So being in your own world can damage anything and anyone. To think outside the box or listen to others. ..stay strong and stay creative. Hopefully everything works out for you and it’s a lesson learned.
Chin up Ali we all have phases like this in our life. Your still an amazing rider and lovely likeable bloke, love your corny humour on the bike builds. Keep being yourself and look after your health and let life flow from there, we'll be waiting for when you feel like getting the camera out ☺️
Hi Ali appreciate the update what’s going on the Channel and your personal life. As you mentioned relationships and mental health. I will combine the two My GF works as an Air traffic controller - ATC Working 10 -12h Monday to Friday a few Years ago she had a incident at work which shook shook her up a bit and as ATC has a 65% suicide rate. She was in a dark place for about a week Thankfully She got the help she needed. It doesn’t play on my mind. Because I know her job is mentally draining but the next incident could be one too many.
Nice to get an update... I was thinking that YT had started messing with my feed when I was not getting your videos on a weekly basis... Mid-life can be a lot of changes - stay positive and see a future, then set the small goals to incrementally get to that place...
A couple of things I forgot to say:
I feel my mindset over the last year has sapped a lot of my creativity, both in my riding and video subject matter.
By being so open you're doing a great service to your viewers. Too many people think it's just them that suffer. Hats off to you.
You are still a big inspiration for many people/riders out there, don’t forget this!
I think your honesty has always been a big part of what people appreciate about you. You're videos have been a source of comfort for me and many others for a long time. Wishing you all the best!
Dear Ali,
I know how mental problems can ruin a relationship.
Cheers from Germany
Christoph
Sorry to hear everything thats going on, just know Ali, I would still watch if it was a 20 minute video of you eating some toast, don't ever feel pressured that the content you're putting out isn't good enough, we're all subscribed and watching for the same reason and thats because you're in it! look forward to 2025!
Depends on if the toast is buttered or not
Aliclarkson is not a Name anymore It's a Brand
Dude, I feel the pain in your voice, but also the relief, and a hint of hope. We’ve never actually met, but I’ve been watching your videos for the last 6-7 years and strangely this video has hit me in the feels like I’m sat listening to an old friend. I hope these changes that are happening will lead to a better future for you, keep that chin up. Looking forward continuing watching where you go with things, and whatever the next videos include, regardless of how frequently they come.
im hoping this year is successful for you ive only been watching 5 or so years but i really respect and appreciate you and the content you put out
Thank you very much ❤️
No pity, no sympathy, you're an absolute legend Ali, keep your head high!
Do what you have got to do to keep moving forwards. Wishing you all the best and looking forward to your new schedule and ideas!
Hey man!
Your long lost mate from Canada here. Just do you man! Mental health is the most important thing. Sometimes change is the best thing that can happen. Much love and respect for you no matter what happens in your life and on this channel
I'm genuinely sorry to hear about you and Jane. Two lovely people, hope things work out for both of you (who gets custody of the cat 🫨)
I have watched your channel for years, you've grown so much as a person, and I've never seen you as grumpy.
Look forward to February.
Thank you, I do try to hide my grumpiness on camera, honestly if you saw my deleted clips you’ll have seen some pretty ugly things!
You're helping me get back on track, thanks Ali you're a great man
Thanks for sharing with us Ali!
My life is pretty carnage-y at the moment too (partly related to another Jane 😂) but let's make some more full nerd content this year 😎
Sending positive vibes your way and best wishes for a fantastic healing journey 🙏
Chronic pain can really put a hamper on your mood, all day every day. I've struggled with my neck myself over the years. Whenever I've been able to see some progress it's had a huge impact on every aspect of my life, including my grump ;)
Also, I've enjoyed your channel all the way.
Publish when ready. We will wait and watch.
I feel ya man, its very refreshing that you are so open and honest. Do remember though that you need to find that joy in your heart for yourself too! Much love and keep riding
I'm sure everything will work out for you Ali, you are a constant inspiration to make me get the trials bike out, your bike skills are amazing so I think a lot of people would be interested in coaching with you.
thanks for sharing, thanks for your honesty. we love you man, keep on moving forward ! it's always a pleasure to watch your talented riding !
Can't wait to see you back at the top of your game, Ali. Hope this is the start of some positive times for you working to your own schedule.
hey man no matter where you take take this channel im with you , you are one of the most genuine bros out here and im 51 and constantly being called thr grumpy old man and thats ok so be you bro
Thinking of you Ali. All the best for 2025!
Thank you!
Good on you for being so open.
Change is good at times. Hope it all works out for you. Best wishes for the year ahead.
Godspeed Ali
love the bike build content. Its my favorite thing to put on at night. Wish you the best from the USA!
Wow, what a refreshing and humble upload - I feel like I
really needed to see this.
Hey Ali
Thanks for the explanation, I appreciate the openness and can understand your difficulties as I, aswell as others probably, have similar ones.
Looking forward to the new you in the future videos
Take care
Well done for putting all that out there.
Can't wait to see what you get up to next.
We love you Ali, thank you for sharing this part(s) of yourself
I would sign up on day 1 to be trained by you. I am in Canada so UK is a bit of a distance for that lol. wish you the best Ali, i love your riding and building videos. Your bike skills and sense of humor are very underrated. Godspeed.
Right on, Ali. Always a good channel to watch. My daughter and I love watching the trials riding and bike building.
I will admit, I am kind of the same - I don't generally take good advice until it's too late.
Going through the same thing, but without the pain . Keep smiling mate.
thanks for the update Ali. Always here for you pal
Ali, watched your videos for years, you are a good human, better days will come
Thank you for sharing Ali!
Thanks for sharing Ali! I can relate to alot of what you talked about. Remeber life is just a ride!
All the best for the future 😊
Good luck Ali! Thank you for the video.
Always appreciate you, Ali! Thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing, man!
Rough stuff, appreciate you and your videos. Pain is challenging
Listen Ali, just one thing, thank you, thank you very much... your effort is very much appreciated... I'm a grumpy bastard myself, and I know how hard it is to "jump over my own shadow" and get things done when I'm not in the mood or not feeling it.
❤️& hope to you Ali. Very grateful to hear your truth and share the journey with you from afar.
Hi Ali, whatever you do, you are my favorite rider. Do not press too much pressure on yourself, enjoy yourself, enjoy life.
You are doing the right things, Ali! Be flexible and adapt to life. In fact we ALL are facing these challenges again and again.
Im happy to hear that the exercises and physical therapy are showing signs of improving your chronic pain
Bummed to hear about the lady, but it sounds like it'll be for the best. Glad there wasn't a hard falling out, and hopefully there will be good that comes of it on both sides
I think the upload schedule will be much better for mental health.
Hard times help us grow, I feel for you .
Good on you mate, always hoping to bump into you in calderdale - you seen like a really nice bloke. Glad you've got a plan
I will combine the two
My GF works as an Air traffic controller - ATC Working 10 -12h Monday to Friday a few Years ago she had a incident at work which shook shook her up a bit and as ATC has a 65% suicide rate. She was in a dark place for about a week Thankfully She got the help she needed.
It doesn’t play on my mind. Because I know her job is mentally draining but the next incident could be one too many.
All the best from Sweden. Keep fighting good things will come. 👍🙂
Nice to get an update... I was thinking that YT had started messing with my feed when I was not getting your videos on a weekly basis... Mid-life can be a lot of changes - stay positive and see a future, then set the small goals to incrementally get to that place...
