The tension, sway, and joy you can see in this mans face while he plays guitar. Makes me glad, because after 10 years of picking at and listening to my dads guitar I finally picked up freshman year and stuck with it. Now I can feel the same joys.
I had a Moll Pizzarelli model for a while. Nicest guitar I've ever played, and I loved it dearly. Sadly, I lost it in a fire, but I'd love to get another one someday. Bill Moll is one hell of a talented craftsman.
Since some comments relate to style, appearance, etc, I'll add that John has an endorsement deal that made me laugh out loud when he mentioned it at a show.. It's not the one for La Bella strings, nor his guitar builder, Bill Moll. He has an endorsement deal from Brioni! That's the Italian designer who makes $6-7K suits. It's an old-school, big city musician's calling card. Things have changed, but not "everything" has changed from the golden age of urban muse-os with swagger.
There is no other guitarist alive or dead who could possibly play that with such clarity and articulation and smooth transition from chord to chord . Bravo John Pizzarelli ! ( Thank God for that minor mistake in about the first 1/3 of the piece because now I know you are human )
comparing to Joe Pass. there is always an ass around to say something negative that has no meaning. BOTH ARE GREAT. Isn't the world full of enough of that crap and to have musicians putting each other down is stupid.
music is a feel, but also technique that is involved in it, and it can be discussed in a friendly manner, I do speak to a friend about perception that we all have in ourselves, not always the best things to have since it is mixed with lots of mojo, but as I said, its always fun to talk about it. If you cant compared musicians, you cant other places too like in sports or cinema.... Its normal to compare , it takes subjects to another level...there is a lot of stagnation when you dont compare, you would live in a black and white society...i prefer colors, debates, technique.....its all part of art, to a certain extent
ThIs young man (Pizzaman) knows what time it is .... The only use I’d have for that 7th string is to flog myself for not knowing how to use the other six strings 😉. I need to practice more 🤭
He tunes AEADGBE? That’s strange to me. I tune BEADGCF. Which might be strange to you but it’s pretty cool. Drop 2 & 3 chord shape voicings are all symmetrical :)
I just started learning some jazz (mainly Joe Pass) and with Joe Pass in mind, I always learn it fingerstyle and with a pick. Mainly, because I don't know when he's playing with a pick or not. 🤷♀
Beautiful, expensive guitar and he supports it with that cheapo strap that only has those two thin strips of material where the strap meets the part that attaches to the guitar. How much force/weight do ya think it would take for them to tear?
It's not really genre specific, it depends on what the artist is trying to go for. I believe John Pizzarelli prefers a low A, but I personally use a low B, occasionally alternating to A depending on the song.
Is this good? I know it's technically advanced and harmonically extensive, butI find it a chore to listen to. I prefer Joe Pass. He seemed always to remember that it's about the music first and that the flashy playing should always know its place.
HAH...just goes to shows tone is in the ear of the beholder! I think his tone is killin on that axe but he'd sound great on $50 Stella w rusty strings and a warped neck!
Not flowing. A bunch of great chords but he loses the sing. It’s choppy. Which always happens when these guys use songs to demonstrate musical concepts. Sorry. I can’t listen to stuff like this because I’m not looking for a lesson. I want to hear the flowing song. Compare this to Les Paul. Les Paul never forgot the song. He neve4 hung more on the mel9dy than it needed. And he still showed off. But it did not break the song up. I know I’m going to be criticized. After a Les Paul rendering you smile. You don’t say, now that was interesting... I hope somebody understands what I’m saying.
nobody understands what you said because it's an amount of bullshit... the fact that you're unable to understand and asimilate this it's only your fault, so stop hating without any foundation

In one sweet performance, John Pizzarelli pays tribute to George Van Eps, Les Paul, Joe Pass, and Bucky Pizzarelli. Thank you!
This is -in my opinion- a masterwork🌹❣️
J P you're the best,❣️🌹

I'm not a clothes guy, but I noticed the suit was on point
That’s next level right there!
The suits fit the guitars nicely.
Instablaster...
I wanna be John when I grow up.
You are the best. I love you John Pizzarelli! ❤️😉👍🏻
I love this standard. Beautiful guitar and jazz tone.
Lovely guitar. Such stunning playing.
this is extraordinary playing. wow.
Really great playing John - so relaxed in the time.
What a lovely guitar
Awesome! Beautiful harmonization...
I remember seeing his dad, "Bucky" when I was a kid. He used the same seven-string style guitar. They're both amazing.
I am being kept spell bound!!! WOW! Amazing touch, chording and all out joy to listen to. Thank you. Brian
Beautiful playing!
John is amazing.

😊
Amazing playing and very cool guitar
Great Performance!
Excellent!!
You sir, are an American Treasure!
Theme and variations, amazing!
what a gorgeous guitar, and a great suit to match, hehehe!
Love this guy, wish he did more of this on Radio Deluxe. That guitar is effin sweet too!!
Fine playing!
Pán" Pizzarelli ste vynikajú....Jazzový gitarista, rád vás počúvám ako hrajete na gitaru, waw waw waw.
Thanks J.P.
Outstanding!
he is playing the best guitar in the world
One of my all time favourites I've never managed to master.
Love it JP!
50 thumbs down never touched a guitar in their life. Well done Sir.
Love the 7 string in the tradition of George Van Eps!
Grande Pizzarelli!!
Well done Mr. Pizzarellli!
Superb!!!
Ugggg 2:33!!! So good it gives me chills
Enjoyed John and his brothers and father at Nobody's Inn in Mahwah NJ in the 90's
Like Z.Z said, "Every girls crazy bout a sharp dressed man" Good to see John dressing like his playing......Impeccable.
How in the world does he spread his fingers so far and at such a fast pace?
I love it!
john p. is underrated!
wow.. what rich Chords amazing .. so damn hard to play melody n chords at the same time... what talents as good as..G. Benson.. or Pat Meheny
comparing to Joe Pass. there is always an ass around to say something negative that has no meaning. BOTH ARE GREAT. Isn't the world full of enough of that crap and to have musicians putting each other down is stupid.
Rodney Kelley Sr Mr Kelley I could not agree more!!
The differences with players are the joy of the thing. Those critic cats don't get it nor do they deserve to get it.
Lol joe pass cuts the shit out of this dude
.....If you perceive a need to compare and denigrate then you are part of the problem.

Mestre John Pizzarelli
Brilliant

Bravo 👏
うめえーーー
Grande John Pizzarelli
Rogerio Souza Indeed!
Hug, Curtis Mitchell
Great!!!!
I want that goldtop archtop so beautiful, doest it djent \m/
Virtuoso!!
Nice!
Is that John's foot tapping on 2 and 4? An old-style metronome?
Ok... answered my own question--he's tapping his left foot, sometimes on 2 and 4, and sometimes on all four beats.
That's the swing tap. I do it with my metronome too. Set it so it taps on 2 and 4
Drums hit hat is on 2 and 4 for jazz and swing pattern, this is a standard move
amazing !!! 8)
Good god.
Amen! Yes He is!
Right. Nothing else to say behind that kind of playing
Class
He tunes AEADGBE? That’s strange to me. I tune BEADGCF. Which might be strange to you but it’s pretty cool. Drop 2 & 3 chord shape voicings are all symmetrical :)
Badass! ;) Italian blood!!
cool
dope =)

Wow!🤓
I didn't think that this performance was very wonderful at first. When I got 2:24, suddenly it all clicked.
American music!!
Any know what kind of strings are those ? Are blacks.
www.labella.com/products/800m-black-nylon-tape-wound-medium-14-67/
Diego Funes There is a video on TH-cam where he talks about his guitar and the strings he uses. I also think it's written on his website.
does anyone know what is his guitar band & model ?
A custom Moll guitar (actually, I believe they all are custom!)
Beautiful, expensive guitar and he supports it with that cheapo strap that only has those two thin strips of material where the strap meets the part that attaches to the guitar. How much force/weight do ya think it would take for them to tear?
Please
What brand of strings are you using here?
Amazing! Love it! Chip off the old block!
what kind of strings are dose
Show off! LOL Just kidding. Awesome as usual John .
7 string guitar. what is the 7th string tuned to?
I think it's usually a low B
+Félix Hernández its a low A
+Félix Hernández If you are a jazz guy Felix, it's low A an octave below the 5th string A. If you are a bluegrass type or shredder, it's a low B
+Bill G shredders / metal gitarrists always have low A, to get the drop tuning
It's not really genre specific, it depends on what the artist is trying to go for. I believe John Pizzarelli prefers a low A, but I personally use a low B, occasionally alternating to A depending on the song.
needs more chord changes
indeed, this one's very raw and basic
Smells like cork.
The real deal.
it makes me swing
What brand strings are those?
LABELLA TAPEWOUND STRINGS
Grunge shredders listen and learn!
What are the strings on that guitar?
La Bella 600-7 Jazz Tapes - White Nylon 7-String 14-79
Sgt. Pepper thanks man!
Buah!
Thought he might grab that Waterloo hanging on the wall behind him.........
Thought that was a Waterloo. Wonder if it's X or ladder.
I feel like I've gone to the doctor's office because I'm suffering from lack of talent at guitar.
What happened to D-A7-G? Have i been missing out on something? Maybe i should just sell my guitars......
o.0
This is a terribly complex way to calculate a solution. The moon is 238,900 miles high from Earth's surface.
Great performance, btw.
The dress, the guitar, the amp, and the playing. Kind of overkill. Don't ya think?
Is this good? I know it's technically advanced and harmonically extensive, butI find it a chore to listen to. I prefer Joe Pass. He seemed always to remember that it's about the music first and that the flashy playing should always know its place.
Hey Brother... .. .Its time to re look into the tuning of A=432Hz...... ... .. .TRUST ME
NON CE' ALCUN DUBBIO!!!
Beautiful guitar., but had a section in the middle where the melody/song disappeared and the playing became 'chord salad'.
he managed to make this awesome song boring
Go watch Lady Gaga
yawn
Chato!
looks like some one the toilet.... but not to say this ain't good or nothin'.... ;0
What a stupid comment...you are not intelligent enough for jazz...
John is great, but the tone of this instrument is underwhelming
HAH...just goes to shows tone is in the ear of the beholder! I think his tone is killin on that axe but he'd sound great on $50 Stella w rusty strings and a warped neck!
Joe Pass is 🥇A lot smoother..
Its just crab joe pass does it much better
