    There was something wonderfully mischievous about Les Paul's playing .... I like how he made tuning up part of the improv ....

    I frequented Fat Tuesday's to see The Les Paul Trio 3 times during this period and it was truly great. The basement club ceiling was so low that Gary Mazzaroppi's bass would touch the ceiling if held vertical. Great memories of a legendary musician.

    Thank heavens for Les Paul and Mary Ford. Les inspired so many great artists, Jeff Beck heard Mary and he playing on the radio when he was a 6 year old and told his mum "that is what I want to do when I grow up." Chris have you heard the Jeff Beck and Imelda May tribute to Les Paul on what would have been his 95th birthday at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City? Their rendition of Les and Mary's songs will knock the socks off any Les Paul fan, their music is spectacular.

    Had the pleasure and honor of seeing Les a number of times here at the Iridium and attending his 90th birthday at Carnegie Hall. What an incredible talent and mind whom we owe so much. Les, you are sorely missed. Thank you so much for posting.

    les paul is the godfather of electric guitar. him and chet atkins the greatest of all time. he is shredding here. most metal players could only wish they could do what les

      david young yes he is shredding but it’s more of an experimental shredding, but it’s not like joe pass or metal shredders because the time isn’t really as solid as those guys are. Still think this is amazing ofc

    Hell fire!! A fruend of mine was talking to me about Les Paul in the pub tonight. Came home and straight on TH-cam. What a genius to still play like that when he was that age. Incredible!!!

    Some comparisons with Django and The Hot Club Of Paris there. Great rhythm guitarist and bass player , and Les sometimes plays Django style licks and chords. Outstanding! To be able to produce those sounds live is a technical achievement in itself.

    Lou Pallo must know just about every chord there is - Gary Mazzaroppi is one of the best (otherwise Tal Farlow wouldn't have hired him) and Les Paul knows just about every way to win your heart - Fat Tuesday - Mardi Gras !

    Les Paul was a Maverick in instrumental music. My dad Ozzie Bowen was also a musical genius,like Les Paul & had his own t.v. show, the Ozzie Bowen Show, broadcast from Channel 12 t.v. in Jackson, Miss 6:30 to. 7:30 ea sat, back 1957-1960.

      If I have a complaint it’s this: This type of arrangement of THIS song should always pay particular notice of the bassist since their contribution is immense! Would love to have seen Mr. Paul verbally give recognition at closing when acknowledging the applause 👏. The ‘conversation’ couldn’t have taken place without their talents!! Bassists.     The first time I heard "How high the moon", recorded by Les Paul and Mary Ford was in Korea in 1952. I had gone on R&R to Fukuoka, Japan, where I bought a turntable and some other albums as well, by Frankie Laine, Patti Page, and that other lady who had the hit at that time, "Wheel of Fortune."
