Outstanding! I built an S1C back in 1983, I went with the 4 aileron symetrical wing like on the factory built S1S. 180hp with NO electrical system, wobble pump etc.- uh... very thrilling to LAND. After 120 hours ,I had 1/2 ownership on a 1976 factory built S2A. I have 500 or so hours in various Pitts Specials, I must say Congratulations- the performance must be breathtaking! I would guess greater vertical than a factory S2S. The radial engine and workmanship looks spectacular! It is a reverse rotation than the lycoming?? Nothing about flying and sharing a Pitts is boring. I wish you many happy hours. Flying acro is the best thing ANY pilot, regardless of experience can do to build confidence,! Be safe and dont let it sit ! You are a lucky man. Fly hard and fly it often. Best Wishes!

I HAD A PITTS S 1 WHEN I WAS 35 OR SO. MAMA TOOK THE PITTS AWAY THOUGH (BEACH BOYS T BIRD DIVORCE DAH) I AM NOW 76 JUST SAW YOUR VIDEO. I LOVE THIS MODEL PITTS. WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE COMPARING SAY S2B VS THE 12? I CAN SEE AIR SHOW VISIBILITY BUT PERFORMANCE OF SOME OF THE MONO WINGS, AND BI PLANES WITH 300 PLUS HP ARE SCREAMERS.

Answer is, it depends...There are essentially three 'flavors' of Model 12s plans built, kit built, and factory built. Plans built are limited to standard Model 12 (non HP) and can range from 100K - 130K. Kit built HPs range $130K - $160K. Used factory built HPs range $180K - $220. A brand spanking new, factory built HP starts around $300K and can go up from there. Maintenance is comparable to other M14P powered aircraft. Good luck!

There are many S1/S2 variants. In general, used experimental S1s can be had for $25K - $40K with used standard airworthiness S1s in the $30K-$50K range. Used experimental S2s average $60K-$90K and used standard airworthiness S2s $150K-$200K.

Hi Nathan - I'd suggest at least 100 hrs of tail-wheel time and a good through check out by a Pitts specialists (a la Budd Davisson). That said, I think a PPL with 100-200 hrs can safely fly the Model 12. I've seen VERY low time pilots fly, takeoff/land Pitts with ease. I've also seen VERY high-time pilots (talking thousands of hours and ATP) that are in over their heads. Of the Pitts line, the Model 12 does have the 'tamest' takeoff and landing characteristics. Good luck!

Tried several ANR headsets. By far, the Clarity Aloft does a better job than any of the ANRs I've tried. You do need to replace the Comply canal tips every 5-6 flights but, worth it...in my opinion. Good luck with your 12!! SD

Is that an artificial horizon above the GPS and what looks like a Inclinometer tube?

That prop doesn't seem to have much ground clearance. Likely makes landings a challenge in a tail-dragger.

    Hey Scott
Glad to see you flying the 12! I'm expecting to complete my first flight of my new one in a week. Wanted to ask you, how does your headset work for noise control in the 12?

Man, this is my favorite version of the Pitts. That motor is supercharge too, right?
