I find Frank's singing to transcend all generations because you can understand his lyrics, which are powerful for most songs. The music is beautiful and something that stays with you. Thank you for doing this!
What a wonderful way to start the new year! Frank was and still is a treasure for us all, and I suspect most of us of my generation can relate to this song. Hearing it I’m both sad and hopeful at the same time. 😢😊 So many emotions… Thank you, Bethany! Happy New Year!
I said "phrasing" even before you! The way he can just fit in the words, in multiple different ways, every time he sings a song - or even within the same performance - is quite magical, to me. A one off!
Great job explaining What When how why -as usual. We Are here for Your way of evaluation-the whole package. Compliments to no excessive makeup no finger claws no tattoos great smile etc. Surviving 2024 in style ! PS Sinatra is a great singer-> Voila!
Watching yet again! Would love for my friend Will (who authored the Sinatra book I'd mentioned) to see this analysis. He would dig it. There will never, ever be another Frank (but we knew that). In his own words, "You gotta love livin', baby, 'cause dyin' is a pain in the ass." Thanks again for this one, Bethany, and for all you've done here on the channel. Happy New Year!
I absolutely adore Frank Sinatra. I'm always spellbound when he opens his mouth. My three children who are 33, 28 and 20 all love him. There was a reason he is known as 'The Voice'. Amazing
Another GREAT reaction and analysis of such a wonderful song! If you like Frank Sinatra, may I suggest the album "Sinatra at the Sands". Recorded live at the Sands Hotel in Las Vegas in 1966 with Count Basie and his orchestra. The banter and chat between songs is something many never saw from Ol Blue Eyes. It's been remixed and remastered, so it is most excellent played on a higher end audio system or headphones.
Wow. This is Awesome! So glad that I’d found your channel. RIGHT before I head off for E.S.T.. … ~’ChartedCourse: Dreamland’, too. Thank you, once more for doing this entire channel, this video in particular. **I’ll be back!!!?**
Ok, this song has, in the digital brain of YT, appeared multiple times in my feed. Nearly everyone I watched seems to love it, but you are the first to break it down into its components, and look at the smallest parts that make it up. How do I express my appreciation for that? I had collected nearly 80 of his albums across the years, and I saw this show the day it aired. The entire production is available with Howard Cosell introducing Frank, and the ladies all crying throughout. Thank you for recognizing in an almost clinical way how he sang. I love it. You are so right in your comments. I don't know how much coaching he got throughout his career. His vocal style changed several times across the years, so maybe he did get help. His life was a drama all in itself. His music was an extension of that life. Thank you for the best review of his music I have heard.
Frank Sinatra. What else is there to say? Hands down the greatest male vocalist and stage presence of all time! The smooth, golden voice. Enjoy your reaction - as always I do.
A masterclass in every way. The man simply had to walk on stage and the entire audience was spellbound and why not? he was incredible and speaking of incredible, you're pretty amazing at these analysis videos, I love to watch them.
This brought a tear to my eye, this was played at my mom's funeral. She was a huge fan and the xmas not long before she passed, I had bought her a book about him. Sad but still a reminder of my dear mom.
Yes, you can! But I admit Frank Sinatra is great! It's his signature song! I love it. But at the same time there is even a better version (IMHO) - many might call it different version - by the one and only Elvis Presley (in Honolulu in 1973)!
I have several albums and a bunch of cd’s of old blue eyes. Listening to him daily on sirius xm. Love the smoothness of his voice. I did it my way…. One of my favourite songs of all time ❤❤❤
Thank you for expounding on the different techniques he utilises in this performance. There are other great singers - many with 'better' voices. But what sets him apart is that he rarely just sings the melody but always tries to sing the story in the lyric. Indeed, while his voice and musical styles between 1939 and 1994 radically changed, that quest is a constant and can be heard in countless songs and performances.
Lifelong fan of Frank Sinatra. So interesting to get your explanation and analysis of what he is doing in this performance. It really added to my appreciation of his singing. He really was something special wasn't he.
I was at that concert with my daughter. I had the pleasure of seeing frank perform 85 times. He was magical. He was the greatest interpretive musician of the 20th century.
Firstly HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL 💖🥳🎉 and FINALLY some legend stuff!! So I've mentioned me being a ROCK / METAL person by I do like some of the greats! Maybe being a Rock Hound I lean towards Tony or even Dean Martin but with your review I now get it! A lot of singers out there have great or awesome TONE but TIMING is that thing that seperates the Masters. BARBARA STREISAND (Hint, hint) 😉 has that. EVERGREEN and A WOMAN IN LOVE 💕 Melts me!! Awesome as always lady Bethany! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
I hope you see this Bethany. I’ve been following you and get excited when you drop a new reaction\analysis, especially Triumph :D. I heard a song I haven’t heard in years today and I thought “you know who would love this? The Vocalyst!” The song is More Than Words by Extreme. Two men. An acoustic guitar. One of the prettiest love songs ever by a rock band. The harmonies are incredible. The flip to falsetto after the chorus so, so, so just RIGHT. I would love to see you take this one apart. I know you won’t be disappointed.
Your commentary of contrast and categorical breakdown of this performance is beyond brilliant. Eye visited Franks Grave 6 times last year. You've reminded me that just wont cut it for 2024 to pay my respects to one of the few voices that can and still makes me cry ~ actually blubber like an idiot. 😓😓
I've said it before... Bethany's personality ALONG with allowing her viewers to first listen to an extended (uninterrupted) sample of the subject piece; and, then always replaying the part she just commented on - to really get an understanding on each technique - ALL Adds up to a wonderfully enriching format. It's nice to know WHY I have always loved certain Vocalists for so many years.
Would love to hear you talk through Sydnie Christmas’s version of this. It is easily the best version I have ever heard, including Frank’s. Love your channel!
Seldom I've heard such a powerful, and beautiful voice. So precise, and yet so effortless, masterful. Frank Sinatra is one of a kind forever. A supreme entertainer.👌
I know, right! Grew up listening to the greats. My favourite of this genre was Dean Martin for the men & Julie London for the women. There is something about Frank though. His stage presence is off the charts.
Can't tell you how excited I was to see a Sinatra video on the channel. I would highly recommend the song Just Ask by Lake Street Dive, that band seems to be right up your alley.
I made the mistake of making my first purchase Sinatra's recordings from the 40's. I have to say I much prefer his deeper, raspier vocals that came with age (and perhaps a little smoking) which might be unusual to say of singers. Ian McCulloch plays guitar and sings with a cig dangling from his mouth on occasion to this day, and kept his voice intact for 35 years, but his vocals aren't as strong lately. He used to go from beautiful, smooth vocals to a deeper growl so effortlessly, but in his case, losing some of that smooth quality in his 60's hasn't been a positive. Still, the best live vocalist of the 80's though!
Hello from Australia 🇦🇺 I love your channel and have discovered so many new genres of music. Could I suggest INXS suicide blonde, live baby live at Wembley stadium 😊
This performance makes me both sad and happy at the same time. He's like 60 at this point, you can tell he doesn't have the same breath. He's very smart/experienced and changes it to suit. Such an expert singer with amazing stage presence. *edit* commented this about 10 minutes in then you said my thoughts better at the end lol teaches me to listen first.
Thank you for explaining the technique of singing to this simple music lover. I love the “engineering “ part of things. New subscriber here was wondering if you did a 3 Dog Night analysis? The group with 3 lead singers!
Don’t forget that the great Paul Anka wrote this especially for Frank Sinatra adapted from the French version Comme d'habitude. He knew Sinatra’s style and phrasing resulting in a masterpiece.
"The record shows, I took the blows, and did it my way", is the strongest line in this masterpiece. For all you people feeling like giving up, remember Frankie, take the blows and keep doing it your way.
I listen to a lot of classical music and singers and when Frank Sinatra died many were saying that we had lost one of the greatest singers because of the way he used words so amazingly.
I suggest that everyone read Jerry Weintraub's autobiography, "When I Stop Talking, You'll Know I'm Dead: Useful Stories from a Persuasive Man". Jerry was Sinatra's manager in the early 1970's and produced "The Main Event" which was the 1974 ABC-TV network broadcast from where this version of "My Way" came to be. Jerry tells a great story about the anticipation of this show and nervously waiting for Frank Sinatra to arrive at Madison Square Garden before showtime that night.
I love to sing Frank S. Dean Martin, Bobby Darin songs. Great songs of yesterday that had fantastic melodies and lyrics sung by quality voices. Billy Boy
For this particular performance, he was at the right age to sing this. I'm at that age, and this song makes me a little......emotional. "The record shows, I.....took the blows.........". If ever there was a phrase I get, it's that one. Well done Francis Albert.
Frank Sinatra was not an actor, or mobster, or celebrity. He was a crooner and loved it. That's what always comes through. The respect and love he has for his art.
Great to hear Frank again. What a voice. Here is another old one to check out. Lulu has been an International recording artist since 1964 and has been performing for decades although she is not widely known outside of the UK except as the wife of Maurice Gibb of the Bee Gees. She reprised one of her iconic songs “To Sir with Love” from the 1967 film she stared in with Sidney Poitier. In this recording, which is a TH-cam recording session from 2019, she was 70 years old and to me it sounds BETTER than the original recording. th-cam.com/video/5gDFZIUtBU0/w-d-xo.html
It's fun to go way back and check out Sinatra's version of "On a Little Street in Singapore," with the Harry James Orchestra (1939). It's an excellent rendition, but the familiar vocal stylings aren't yet there.
I find Frank's singing to transcend all generations because you can understand his lyrics, which are powerful for most songs. The music is beautiful and something that stays with you. Thank you for doing this!
AGREE!
Beth, thank you once again. I love your comments. You are like Sinatra, you never disappoint. My favorite Frank song is LET ME TRY AGAIN from '73.
Thanks for doing Bethany. I love listening to Frank on XM radio. His is a National Treasure!
What a wonderful way to start the new year! Frank was and still is a treasure for us all, and I suspect most of us of my generation can relate to this song.
Hearing it I’m both sad and hopeful at the same time. 😢😊 So many emotions…
Thank you, Bethany! Happy New Year!
Frank did it his way! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I said "phrasing" even before you!
The way he can just fit in the words, in multiple different ways, every time he sings a song - or even within the same performance - is quite magical, to me. A one off!
Outrageous phrasing, outrageous tone, outrageous presence, outrageous performance.
For what is a man, what has he got?
If not himself, then he has naught
To say the things he truly feels
And not the words of one who kneels💝💝💝💝
Beautiful song and beautiful reaciton 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have been calling for reactors to analyse the vocal masters like Sinatra, Ella etc, for years. Thanks for this.
Great job explaining What When how why -as usual. We Are here for Your way of evaluation-the whole package. Compliments to no excessive makeup no finger claws no tattoos great smile etc. Surviving 2024 in style ! PS Sinatra is a great singer-> Voila!
Brought tears to my eyes. The first of 2024. Happy New Year lass.
It's interesting that you describe this classic song like a scrumptious dessert. I guess that makes perfect sense! Love it!
Watching yet again! Would love for my friend Will (who authored the Sinatra book I'd mentioned) to see this analysis. He would dig it. There will never, ever be another Frank (but we knew that). In his own words, "You gotta love livin', baby, 'cause dyin' is a pain in the ass."
Thanks again for this one, Bethany, and for all you've done here on the channel. Happy New Year!
Wonderful analysis, thank you. Mr. Sinatra is one of my top 3 favorite singers, male or female.
Yay Bethany! Happy New Year🎈 Great analysis of maybe the most famous singer ever.🎤
Such respect and admiration Bethany shows for this man is a beautiful thing to see. ❤
Thanks again for reminding me of what great music is out there! Every time I hear these classics I want to listen to more of them!
Brilliant analysis, as usual, Bethany. Thank you!
I absolutely adore Frank Sinatra. I'm always spellbound when he opens his mouth. My three children who are 33, 28 and 20 all love him. There was a reason he is known as 'The Voice'. Amazing
That is a parenting win imo! ❤
Great stuff Bethany, would appreciate your take on 'Fly Me to the Moon' which is epic!
Another GREAT reaction and analysis of such a wonderful song! If you like Frank Sinatra, may I suggest the album "Sinatra at the Sands". It's been remixed and remastered, so it is most excellent played on a higher end audio system or headphones.
Bethany, your analysis throws such light onto these performances and deepens and enriches my experience as a listener; I love your work so much.
Thank you!! A beautiful voice, excellent presentation, ya just gotta love him … Happy New Year!!
Wow. This is Awesome! So glad that I’d found your channel. RIGHT before I head off for E.S.T.. … ~’ChartedCourse: Dreamland’, too. Thank you, once more for doing this entire channel, this video in particular. **I’ll be back!!!?**

Just a beautiful response -- thank you so much. Well, what should I say? As always, actually...
All the very best and a happy new year from Germany
I love your "I'm gonna do something bad but please don't shout" face when you pause it 🤣
My Grandmother loved Frank. She would have loved your video. He is one of my favorite Crooners.
You can't listen to Frank, and NOT get goose bumps. You're priceless Bethany.
Yes, you can! But I admit Frank Sinatra is great! It's his signature song! I love it. But at the same time there is even a better version (IMHO) - many might call it different version - by the one and only Elvis Presley (in Honolulu in 1973)!
These classic songs are a joy to listen to but your analysis is JUST as joyful!!
Thank you! More Sinatra please
No arguments from me on that one!

Master of story telling, with such ease, effortlessly brilliant
I love you Bethany, This song was written about his life, and how he lived it By Paul Anka. And listen to his perfect diction.
The "not in a shy way" is so god damn good. What a performer.
Remember watching this live at 12 years old, loved it. Had the great luck to see him live, once in 1977 and twice in the 80's. The best..

Beautiful voice, stunning looks and such stage presence. Frank wasn't that bad either!!
I love your passion when listening to Frank Sinatra!!

CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD ✨ OLD BLUE 👀 EYES WAS A GREAT SINGER 😢 RIP
IN HEAVEN FRANK SINATRA ⚡🙌 AMEN
GOD 🙏🏻 BLESS YOU

My grandma loved Franks music, a true legend
Love your reaction videos.. so pro and also emotional
Great analysis of my favorite singer!😀
You really need to listen to his singing in the 1950s and very early sixties, when he was at his peak.
One of the coolest men that ever walked this earth. His voice was never flashy but also very pleasing to the ear. He made it look easy.
Hard to believe "Old Blue Eyes" has been gone for 26 years ....just sayin'
Really? He would be 108 years old if he was still here.
I know, right! Grew up listening to the greats. My favourite of this genre was Dean Martin for the men & Julie London for the women. There is something about Frank though. His stage presence is off the charts.
Dino also
😮...i thought it been way longer
Can't tell you how excited I was to see a Sinatra video on the channel. I would highly recommend the song Just Ask by Lake Street Dive, that band seems to be right up your alley.
You have a beautiful voice and you whistle all the time. Frank is the best! ❤
Frank Sinatra was like the Beatles of my parents' youth. What a gifted voice.
Happy new year🎉🎉🎉🎉
Ok

FRANK SINATRA....... origini ITALIANA il PAPA' emigrato dalla SICILIA (ITALIA) !!!!
Frank (and orchestra) would drop the needle straight to a lacquer master disk and record the entire side of an LP in one, flawless take.
Hello from Australia 🇦🇺 I love your channel and have discovered so many new genres of music. Could I suggest INXS suicide blonde, live baby live at Wembley stadium 😊
The Vocalyst does it again- revealing how the magic works, just like your brilliant piece on Ban Morrison
Normally, all the interruptions would drive me crazy. But this woman is so lovely and charming, I looked forward to listening to her.
He was also a great actor, from "From Here to Eternity" to "Guys and Dolls" (musical) to "Oceans 11" to Robin and the 7 Hoods and so many more.
Thank you for explaining the technique of singing to this simple music lover. I love the “engineering “ part of things. New subscriber here was wondering if you did a 3 Dog Night analysis? The group with 3 lead singers!

Yes, I was a part of that collective goosebumps. 😁
beautiful ❤
I love to sing Frank S. Dean Martin, Bobby Darin songs. Great songs of yesterday that had fantastic melodies and lyrics sung by quality voices. Billy Boy
Frank gets his own category, Period!
Such a conscious singer, with his words, his phrasing.
Loved by every age group
the most beautiful voice EVER!!!
Happy New year 2024 !
I ,m don't going to the shop.l,m stay at my home...
listen to the video of frank recording it was a very good year !! beautiful
For this particular performance, he was at the right age to sing this. I'm at that age, and this song makes me a little......emotional. "The record shows, I.....took the blows.........". If ever there was a phrase I get, it's that one. Well done Francis Albert.
59 years old... what a voice!
This guy had a strong personality that is almost impossible to find those days.
I feel that no one else should attempt to sing this song.. It is his song and his life. No young singer gave real meaning to this masterpiece
Frank Sinatra was not an actor, or mobster, or celebrity. He was a crooner and loved it. That's what always comes through. The respect and love he has for his art.
Espectacular Frank
Great to hear Frank again. What a voice.

He had been singing professionally for forty years when he did this. He made the most of what he had left, and was still unmatchable.
1974 - live performance - auto tune not yet available. the smoothest voice
"Whatever else has been said about me personally is unimportant. When I sing, I believe, I'm honest." (Interview, 1963)
