    Thank you so much, followed the video and finally my Nest works.
    I had to attach the Nest connector directly to the chime without the connector piece.
    I watched many videos and I have to say your video was the only one that made any sense. The whole process has taken me 6 weeks (due to lockdown) as I initially tried Nest with an adapter (one of the other videos I watched).After watching your video it took just over an hour.
    Thank you!

    Thanks for this. We have the same transformer set up but I have wired it to the 24v connector instead of 12v but the transformer is buzzing. Is that because we’ve wired it to the 24v do you think?

    I removed everything out of the Deta chime box, powered the new transformer and used the two door bell wires as 12v power. Took 15mins and fits in Deta Box, no drilling.

    I have a eufy doorbell and I bought this transformer. But when I turn the doorbell circuit back on it just trips and turns off again and I have no idea why. The eufy doorbell needs 12 to 24 volts and I’m sure I put the wires in the right holes. Got any ideas?

  • @kdavruwebsite

    very helpful followed the instructions and it works . the only thing that i would recommend is a relay for the chime because the output is 12v and the chime is 8V and probably in time it could damage the solenoid . That only if (Ding dong dash) from the kids

      But the doorbell will be using most of the voltage anyway so I don't think it cause any damage

    What VA and voltage was your chime transformer? I am doing same thing but thinking of running nest on 24v instead 12. Then using resistor to drop voltage to drive chime solenoid with nominal voltage.

    I have the delta C3500 which is the doorbell on the left. Mine has a transformer at the bottom. I have just changed the push button to an illuminated push bell. For some reason the illuminated does not work. Any ideas? Do I need to remove the transformer? Thanks

    • @PaulLee81
      @PaulLee81  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, does the doorbell work when the button is pushed? If yes and the illumination doesn't work then it could be the transformer is stepping downower than the power required for the doorbell to work? I'd check the transformer output vs doorbell input requirements.

    Hi Paul, great resource. When measured I’m getting 15V AC at the transformer and at the chime. Haven’t tested the voltage at the doorbell yet. Should 15V AC be enough? I don’t have the same chime/transformer that you have.

    • @PaulLee81
      @PaulLee81  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for looking. That's plenty according to Google and assuming you are in Europe. The device needs between 12-24 V AC in Europe or between 16-24 V AC in US. support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247132?hl=en-GB#:~:text=Nest%20Hello%20needs%20to%20be,VA%20(in%20North%20America).

    Hello. Thank you so much for this. Can I ask what the power is coming into the Doorbell existing Deta C3500? I have the same issue for Ring video Doorbell 2. I was told I need 8-24v power and that my Deta c3500 is incompatible! Reason is that the power coming in may be whatever it is but the power going out is around 6V. I’m hoping you have the same power so that I can copy you! Fingers crossed 🤞🏼

      @PaulLee81  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kousaf, it has a onboard transformer but I did not see any marked voltage output when I removed it but I knew it wasn't enough to power the door bell. According to documentation www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=detaelectricaltest.co.uk/Essentials%2520Data%2520Sheet%2520-%2520C3500%2520V3.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjT1ZTs7ajuAhURmYsKHUiVB8YQFjAQegQICxAB&usg=AOvVaw2CwzELe_SRoy-GiuicUvB_ it output 6v as you mentioned.

    Thanks for this, super helpful. I have a couple of questions if you can help, from the wire that’s going to your doorbell, where does that blue wire attach to? I have 2 core to the bell, so one end would go on the chime connector... does the other go into the 0V connector at the transformer? Also I cannot for the life of me unscrew the transformer terminal screws. Was yours stuck at all?

      Hi, glad it's helped you. Yes, one wire from the button goes to the 0v transformer connector. There's a wiring diagram on my website that shows it a bit better. www.paul-lee.co.uk/how-to/nest-hello-doorbell-wiring-with-deta-c3500-c3501-chime-uk/

    Great video Paul. I've got the next model up to your chime but decided to ditch the chime all together and just fit the same transformer. I've got the blue and brown going in the one end and then one of the doorbell wires in the 0v and the other in the 12v.all works perfectly but the transformer buzzes. Enough to be annoying. Thank you for your informative video. I've seen others' wiring the transformer from the 8v and 24v outputs rather than 0v and 12v in order to supply the nest hello with 16v. Can you advise which is best?

    • @Adam-gd8no

      Yes I would like to know the answer to this? As it needs 16v to 24v, please could someone answer

    • @shush97
      @shush97 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would also like to know please!
      I wired it yesterday on the table just to see how it worked and connected it to 12v, it seemed to work ok.
      Then this afternoon I Installed the doorbell and mounted on wall - 12v, and it wouldn't chime even though the nest bell was working fine.
      I switched it from 12 to 24 and the chime started working.... So I can only imagine it depends on how far away the transformer and/or bell is from the chime??
      Since the install, the chime had randomly chimed so now I am no longer sure if 24 is too much.
      So I am beginning to think that maybe you might be better off actually buying a 16v transformer as instructed by nest unless someone can tell me I have done something wrong.

    • @dsdlonyer
      @dsdlonyer 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I currently have mine wired to the 8v and 24v outputs. My doorbell keeps going offline intermittently (no real pattern) so I checked the power output and I am getting 17v. I sent an email to BG to confirm if this was the correct wiring and their response was;
      "The CUB1 has been tested and certified for use only when outputting 8, 12 or 24 V (by using the zero and 8, xero and 12, or zero and 24 terminals respectively) so your current installation is not a recommended way of wiring the unit in and hence might be causing some unexpected output fluctuations.
      Incidentally, taking a voltage reading under `no-load’ conditions (i.e. when the transformer is basically in standby not deeding any significant amount of power out to any device) can result in readings which are slightly higher than they would be under loaded operating conditions, so a reading of 17V on a calculably 16V potential difference would not be unusual in such situations.
      You could go for either a 12V output (zero and 12 terminals connected) or 24V (zero and 24 terminals connected).

      One other thing to point out, the unit has an 8VA (or 8W) peak output, so at 8V this provides 1A, at 12V it is 0.666A and at 24V it is 0.333A"

    • @chilemad

      The dongle is a capacitor, regulates voltage and protects the Nest.

    Well, that was hugely useful. Wasn't expecting to find something so perfect to my needs. I'm in a rental house that we're looking to move out of fairly soon (months). I can make modifications but will need to put back so looking to avoid too much hassle here. Do you know how I could non-destructively set this up?
    I'm thinking that if I possibly remove the door chime from the loop (use Home mini's for alerts) and wire the mains into the transformer instead - or alternatively add some extra wires from the mains connection of the existing transformer into a new one. Not my wheelhouse so appreciate your thoughts.
    Also, do you know the spec of the transformer I need? I can pop to Screwfix or the like and ask for help but they might not know what I need here.
    Huge thanks again for the totally niche and bang-on video.
