Every spring all the creepy crawlers and annoying flying bugs invade our areas. Hey they are just trying to survive, multiply, and we get that, but it's not the best situation for Dubia roach colonies!
The gnats and flies are what we typically run into in the south, but you might have different kinds of critters depending on where you live and what time of year it is.
Today we just wanna share a few breeder tips & let you know what products & strategies are working for us in Texas. Hopefully they will help you if you are encountering annoying bugs in or near your colonies!

Nice video and great article! Thanks so much for your knowledge! My mentors teached me that monitoring your bins and housecleaning is paramount! Keep the frass out and old food. Mostly clean out the dead because the pest will lay eggs in the dead roaches or Dunn waste. I tend to feed no fruits to reduce the pest! Remember, the waste will bring pests. So keep your environment clean at all times! I have over 70 different species of arthropods! Let's do this! I am the Bug/Farmer! Keep your bins covered and cut your fruits out! Keep your bins clean! Your numbers are fine! You don't need the fancy stuff! You will have more problems w/ spiders and other critters will eat the roaches, lid your bins!
Hey thanks for watching and commenting 🙂 Yep produce can definitely cause insects to be more attracted to dubia bins, but for us fresh produce is important to provide for healthy dubia roaches as we breed in large numbers. Unfortunately gnats swam this time of year where we live and get in wither lids on or off..they are sneaky little guys. We agree with keeping ultra clean and getting rid of dead feeders. Thanks for orange tip my colony is doing really good after I got fruit Flys under control. My issue now is spiders red ones I had to start over on colony by any way to keep them out ? There was soo many they was killing the nymphs
I would recommend moving the colony to a different location if you can away from spiders.
