    Ive ran commercial ohd repairs for 20yrs & if this door was backwound , it would spin the shaft/wrench opposite & break your hand. Happened to me on a 14x14. 2broken fingers & a nuclear meltdown ! Great video man!

      Haha oh damn I hate commercial doors everything is so huge & high up, you must be a brave soul lol ! These little residential doors are a piece of cake for guys like us hehe but yeah they still have a little bit of power in those springs if your not careful. Thanks dude

    Better advice would be to use two stilsons in case you need more than half a revolution .

    • @NatesToolbox
      @NatesToolbox  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you’ve got 2 pairs 😆. Otherwise just repeat the first step 👌🏻

    Probably a stupid question but which way to turn the shaft? Mine is closed and if you roll it up it just in ravels

      All good 👍🏻 say if you clamp on the wrench you pull down so roll it towards you.

    good vid. i just lost all tension on mine trying to install a motor. how many full rotations you reckon i'll need? is that an 18" wrench? thanks

    • @NatesToolbox
      @NatesToolbox  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. If the door is rolled up tight it’s roughly 2 full rotations away from you. Or 2 to 2-1/2 turns of the shaft pulling down. I think that was my 12 inch. If the down it’s a lot more difficult but you’ll need 2 wrenches until it starts to come off the floor.

      Use two stilsons (or better grips) and start tensioning the spring. After a few revolutions you should be able to lift the door. Raise it to just before it's fully open, add tension but not too much for it to fully open.
      Make sure the tracks are fitted and there is a stopper to prevent it shooting up and unwinding again.
      Even better, call a professional before you damage the door or yourself!

      So if the door is fully open & have a ratchet strap holding the curtain roll tight, and it’s lost all its tension (if it’s manual hand chain operation) roll the curtain in effect so it’s going down adding 1 tension turn? But if it’s not well balanced still, grip the shaft etc slacken the ubolts then turn the shaft towards yourself or away to apply the extra half turn to prevent the door creeping down?

    Why would the motor side of my roller door turn, but the opposite side wont turn with it???

    • @NatesToolbox
      @NatesToolbox  ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s all connected so should turn as one however if the tracks aren’t aligned or too tight the door won’t close evenly

      @@NatesToolbox thanks for the prompt response.
      Do you mean tracks as in what the roller door slot into?
      Would I know or is it easy to tell if the springs on the pole aren’t connect ?
      Also, Can you have to much tension on the internal pole?
      Thanks again Nate.

    My door went above the stop and got out of alignment. When trying to fix it, it ran up and over and completely unrolled itself

    • @NatesToolbox
      @NatesToolbox  ปีที่แล้ว

      Oh dear ! Definitely helps with 2 people. Hopefully it’s fixed otherwise you can either remove the tracks, tie it up & roll it over (see my other retentioning video) or try it like this one but it’s alot harder & dangerous when the door is down.
