This is something that has started to become of interest over the last few months, sadly though this will sound really funny because I am not a good swimmer at the moment so I'll need to get used to the foundations first, I am definitely looking at trying to get better at least, as I would love to go into this one day, I am need to sort out my fitness too, but not sure how fit you need to be to become lifeguard but what ever the intense may be, hopefully this will be an achievement for me soon. I am over 18 and don't think I can join surf school unless they have adult classes as that can help as well. Also would the job be available in part time and full time or just full time? Also are there any useful tips you could recommend regards to fitness etc? Many thanks.
You could probably find training at a local pool or something. Maybe become a pool lifeguard and work on those skills and build it up. Good luck if you do 😊

Hi there, thanks for your interest! We'd highly recommend joining a local surf lifesaving club as a gateway into this career. You're still young, so don't train too hard, but when pools reopen that's a great chance to work on your swimming technique. General cardio eg cycling and running will help too. And if you enjoy a watersport like surfing that's ideal practice for building confidence in the waves and getting used to paddling for when you're on a rescue board.

Will being slightly red-green colourblind stop me from being a beach lifeguard? I’m thinking about applying to do my life guarding qualification this year, and was a little concerned it would stop me doing it.
I'm currently a firefighter here in the uk, this is what I want to do when I reach retirement ❤. Dont get me wrong I love firefighting but my heart belongs in the RNLI

Hi Martyn, during the lifeguard season from spring to autumn it is a full-time job, but due to the current coronavirus pandemic our lifeguards are not operating at this time.
@@rnli aaaah thank you for replying this I appreciate it, its because I've been seeing these videos of lifeguards on beaches or pools and they say that they only do summer ut I was confused because I did want to have a full time responsibility of helping people or saving lives. I think it's an awesome job to do and I love being in the water even in cold conditions like the ocean

I’m keen to be a lifeguard however I don’t live by the sea, are there life saving clubs inland/ around Suffolk, or clubs like that ?
