    So many people pour their time, energy, and hard-earned cash into shake mixes, supplements, and speciality products. And they think this time and money is well spent because they’re making the “healthy” choice. But what if they’re wrong? What if those healthy choices aren’t ACTUALLY healthy at all? That’s why Dr. Gundry created his eating program.
    As it turns out, even “health” foods like fruit and vegetables can actually do your body harm.
    Why? Plants don’t want to be eaten. They simply want to survive. One of the ways they defend themselves against hungry animals like us is by producing toxic chemical compounds - proteins known as lectins.
    How do we know what foods to consume and what to steer clear of? Learn more about lectins and the foods that we should be avoid on the official Blog: gundrymd.com/cmd.php?ad=993387

      Doctor Gundry, I hope you will read and answer this. My mother suffers from high potassium. One of the vegetables with low potassium that she can eat is eggplant. Now you are saying that eggplant contains high lectin. What then can she eat? Thanks.

      Hi there! While there are many great benefits of following a lectin-free diet (like a boost in energy and improved gut health!) the preference of following this lifestyle is up to you. We recommend consulting with your primary care physician to discuss a plan that works best for your health.

      Hey doc I have an important question. I know you said stay away from fruit, but I was wondering everyday I squeeze 1 lime into a 32 ounce bottle and I fill it with water all the way to the top. Is that ok for me even though it’s diluted or should I stop doing that? Hope to hear from you thank you.

      You're not alone. I was put on 7 drugs for lipids and b/sugar. 6 weeks later I went back for blood test and all were perfect. BP was of a mid 20yr old and i was 46 at the time. Dr says. Keep doing what you're doing. None of what I was doing was taking their masking drugs. It was selective diet and weights. Increased specific fats and removed all sugar and complex carbs. As a side effect lost 18kg (~40lbs)

      so true, fruit is not as bad as the prepackaged carbage in our stores, but it is a total sugar/fructose nightmare for almost any adult over the age of 30- especially since we are foolishly told to eat some every day, which is basically no different than telling someone to be sure an eat a 1/2 cup of sugar along with your other foods, every day.

    • @danielgeci4513

      The funny part is he used in this video the rationale that fruit is meant to be eaten to store fat for winter as a late season crop. He even went on later to say fruit should only be eaten seaonally. The problem with this ridiculous reasoning is that thing we call the equator and the fact fruit is in abundance year around. Things like bananas etc. His own logic is flawed because this guy is a marketing snake oil salesman and it's sad some good information gets all mixed in with his BS.

      I used to roll my eyes at a lectin-free diet, but lo and behold, almost all the foods high in lectins are the ones I don’t eat because they “upset my stomach.” Interesting. However, not all foods high in lectins bother me. The only grain i can eat is certain brands of oats and I only eat 1 serving a day. Nuts and flax are the same. Almonds and flax, and only certain brands due to their processing. Dairy doesn’t bother me as long as it’s got active probiotics and has no sugar and is cultured (yogurt, kefir). I’m picky about brands and do notice a difference. However, one caveat I would add is that many of the foods on the YES list are so high in FODMAPS, which can really be uncomfortable for people with IBS (this is me!). I think if you’re diligent and can be honest with yourself about what foods bother you and feel best you can make this work for you. For example, I know which fruits work for me (not all are lectin-free) and which ones don’t. All beans, nightshades, and a ton of veggies are no-gos for me. I actually am only able to eat leafy greens like spinach, kale, arugula, etc. because they’re the ones my system likes best. All low-FODMAP berries, seedless citrus fruits, and yes, pineapple work well. So I think it really comes down to the specific person, however, Dr. Gundry is onto something with the seeds, beans, and certain veggies. I appreciate you sharing this controversial information because it allows many of us to look at what we’re eating in a new way. I’ve been off “added” sugars for over 20 years and that radically changed my health along with eliminating red meat. Not easy, but truly worth it.

    I need a diet that is anti-inflammatory. Tomatoes and potatoes were once considered poisonous. Now I understand why.

    • @kathrynmercier4874
      @kathrynmercier4874 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      They were once considered poisonous because the vegetation is poisonous. If I told you that some leaves of a plant made me deathly ill, you would not be keen on trying out other parts of the plant. That’s why people *used* to think they were poisonous. They both belong in the nightshade family which often have poisonous leaves/unripened fruit. Tomatoes and potatoes are perfectly safe to eat. Hell, some communities survived almost exclusively on potatoes.

      Those people probably had generations and generations worth of healthy genetics on their side. Great-great grandparents onward who ate healthy and had no access to processed foods and access to high-nutrient foods. This allowed their descendants the luxury of eating foods with such a high glycemic index and still being able to live a long time. But that protective layer usually only lasts only 1-2 generations and possibly their children and definitely their grandchildren will likely not be so lucky. Catherine Shanahan talks about this concept of genetic memory and diet in her book Deep Nutrition.

Goat milk ice cream and dark chocolate are my treats... and I only fart or have discomfort (or need much toilet paper 😂) when I occasionally cheat. In India, mostly vegetarian ppl thrive on grains, beans, legume, pulses along with vegetables and small amount of dairy. Spices n herbs they used balances out the lectin making them harmless. Only when you eat the beans, legume, nightshade vegetables only on their own, you will have this issue.

I have a lot of respect your work and while I don't entirely agree on all of it and the limits (which seem arbitrary to a point), I can clearly see that you overall, you have a solid diet recommendation for people that could only improve their life. Dr. Gundry: After 1 month following your list, (Thanks for the list!), I'd say it has been transformative. I'm feeling great, and digestion is smooth sailing (after years of discomfort and painful elimination.) I live in the tropics and we have fruits all year long. So for now, until I get more confirmation otherwise, I am going to discard your statement about avoiding ripened fruits unless in-season? (the papayas, pineapples, mangoes, bananas and other fruits come in multiple seasons during the year. IT seems so natural and wholesome to enjoy these fruits at their most delicious stage.)

      Yes, I wondered about that for people in areas where fruit grows year-round. I love sour sop and other fruits that grow in other countries that are great for our health. How has eating the fruits worked for you since you are i a more tropical area I wondered if that would not adversely impact you or any one else for that matter.

Trying to convince my doctors that things weren’t adding up with my weight and the “healthy” foods I eat has always been a battle. I love getting accurate and reliable information from Dr. Gundry! Impressive. I have learned to follow my body whenever I eat something. If I feel weird in any way, more than once, after eating something, I avoid it, I know it's not good for me. It also applies to food that I detest. Funny enough, everything matches with all you have said. Also, I have intolerance to carrots. I always thought that was very weird. I can't stand any of the foods you have said to be "bad", except for pepper which I like to have in moderation from time to time.

    My anecdotal experience with lectins is mixed. If I peel potatoes and roast them I am fine, no reaction. Tomatoes and bell peppers a very different story, as well as grain based products and especially bran. I can eat white rice fine however. I eat a lot of vegetables, not in variety but in quantity. I think this is because of different types of lectins and individual tolerances. But definitely the active ones (for me) cause problems with the gut and bodily inflammation. Avoid them and I am so much better. I am not a one for black and white categorising for this reason. Thank you Dr Gundry.

      Which active veggies give you inflammation ?

    • @AwareLife
      @AwareLife 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lizkel It's more grains than vegetables with lectins but may just be my oversensitivity. I have an oversensitivity to some oxalate high vegetables. (beetroot, silverbeet (chard), but most vegetables are fine. My most inflammatory responses are to high omega 6 oils. (seed oils) I use EVOO, which is as very good, as Dr Gundry says.
      Seed oils (trickily labelled as "vegetable oils" are used in a lot of commercial foods. Both high omega 6/3 inbalance and proddution nasties, I blame for a lot of senaky chronic inflammation. Any inflammation you should always first try avoiding or lowering these in commercial goods, hard but you'll notice it. My opinion anyway. Keep well.

      This guy clearly isn't a dietitian.
      "Lectins are naturally occurring proteins that are found in most plants. Some foods that contain higher amounts of lectins include beans, peanuts, lentils, tomatoes, potatoes, eggplant, fruits, and wheat and other grains. Lectins serve a protective function for plants as they grow. They don't have any nutritional value when consumed in foods.
      Some research seems to indicate that taking in large quantities of raw lectins could have negative health effects. The amount you’d need to consume each day to get to that level, however, is much higher than a typical diet would include. And studies have shown that lectins break down when processed or cooked, so the risk of adverse health effects arising from lectin-rich foods that aren’t raw is not cause for concern.
      In addition, most foods that contain lectins are recommended as part of a healthy, well-balanced diet. There’s a well-established body of scientific evidence that clearly supports the benefits of a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. The health benefits you receive from including those foods in your diet outweigh any perceived benefits from avoiding foods with lectins. With that in mind, a diet that avoids lectins is not one most dietitians would typically recommend."

    I tried going mostly plant based and I didn't have enough energy to complete my work out. It was hard as hell to get 7 cups of vegetables along with my fruits and legumes in a day,I was always full with no energy,there's a missing link somewhere. I now use eggs and mackerel for my protein source

      Look up a second opinion on dieting, look up Dr. Sten Eckberg on youtube and digest some his lectures on dieting. We simply don't break down plants efficiently enough because our bodies are more adapted to predation and meat than herbivation. We more have to eat the animals that Can process the nutrients in plants, than it is we eat the plants like those animals and reap the benefits we need for maintenence.

    Interesting. Eating WFPBNO, including potatoes, rice, legumes and cashews made me lose loads of weight and feel awesome. By now I think everyone has to find their diet, there is no one for all… I can’t do keto for example, feel horrible with it.

    Thank you very much for this informative video Dr. Gundry. There are so many confusing videos out there when it comes to foods that are healthy for you. I've been suffering from leaky gut syndrome and I'm trying to repair it. When it comes to grains being bad for your gut, would quinoa and gluten-free oats fall under the category of gains or seeds?

    • @GundryMDYT
      @GundryMDYT  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Kim, quinoa is listed under our "NO" under the category of GRAINS, SPROUTED GRAINS, PSEUDO-GRAINS, AND GRASSES, Thank you!

      @@GundryMDYT It's been very difficult figuring out what I can and cannot eat with a leaky gut. I've removed grains, dairy, high fructose foods, which doesn't leave me with many choices of foods to eat. Do you have a list of foods that are allowed to eat for curing leaky gut? You have so many videos, it would be lovely if you could direct me to the right video to help with my food selection for leaky gut. I absolutely love your informative videos. What a blessing to have found your videos Dr. Gundry. I'm already starting to feel and see a difference in my health.

    Hi Dr Gundry and Co. I just want to say you have completely transformed my life and Im so grateful to you for that. I have suffered with psoriasis for 15 years so I am now following your plan. Can I just ask how approximately how long you think it would take to heal my skin of psoriasis. I know you can't say for me individually however how long approximately does it take your psoriasis patient? Also if I have the occasional drink of alcohol, am I likely to go back 2 steps etc? Id love to hear what you or anyone else who has been through the same situation thinks. Thank you

    I'm trying to improve my diet. I've managed to eliminate all sugary and processed foods and am reducing carbs, although not trying to cut them out all together. I'd find it hard to cut out beans, as I enjoy them mixed with tuna, extra virgin olive oil and olives. Makes a simple but very satisfying meal. I love fruit, so it would be hard to reduce that. Never been keen on the green leaf veggies and cabbage etc. My last loaf of bread ran out around 12 days ago and I haven't replaced it. Eating some oatcakes instead. I have always loved all types of cheese and plan to up my consumption of goats/sheeps milk cheese and blue cheeses too. It is quite hard to find the right balance and there can be conflicting information at times. I share Dr Gundry's love of extra virgin olive oil, got a taste for it when living in Italy in the past. Like the idea of intermittent fasting too.

    I have always preferred my bananas on the green side; I love the grassy freshness of them. When I discovered cardamom, my appreciation kicked up a notch. I haven't been eating bananas lately because of the sugars, but I used to eat yogurt topped with greenish bananas and sprinkled with cardamom, and it was heaven.

    I've am thinking of changing my diet from Plant based (almost 2 years) to following your recommendations, I would like to know where soy milk stands on your list, I stopped drinking or consuming anything dairy for a long time, I'm ready to move to olive oil instead of margarine, making my own bread is something I've always done but will be looking at buying a bread maker and trying out millet and the other flours on your list. I love your podcasts and the experts you interview, your style is friendly, and your guest speakers have lived real lives and have seen the benefits of changing their lifestyles. I am 67 years old, I gave up taking 161 pills per week, almost 12 months ago, I meditate every day, give thanks for everything in my life from my beautiful children, grandchildren, great grand children, my body, bones, skin, hair, the air I breathe, my guardian angels, believe me, everything, and wish to live longer. I take care of 2 little boys that have come into my care, they are 3 yrs and 5 yrs old, belong to my sister's daughter, my own biological grandchildren are fine, these two are beautiful little boys that I love as my own, they keep me young. Giving up the medication recommended by my doctor 5 years ago, is the best thing I've done, they were for gout, high blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, sciatica, it seemed like the doctors didn't really bother to check on my change in diet, I did regular 3 monthly visits to the labs to give blood etc, but they didn't bother to see if I'd improved or not. Your podcasts are the best thing I've heard in a long time, thank you Dr Gundry
