  • Ever wondered about how to analyze film? Are you curious about the hidden meaning within The Mask of Zorro? Are your curious about how to find theme and meaning in a film? Well then this video is for you. I make film analysis videos and video essays and in this video I give a step-by-step guide on how to analyze film using The Mask of Zorro as the subject. In this video, we look at The Mask of Zorro, directed by Martin Campbell. We'll analyze the dialogue, imagery, symbolism, and character arcs to see how Campbell uses many elements of this film to communicate a central theme.

I think the symbolism between the names "Montero" and "Zorro" is also interesting. Montero is an occupational name for an assistant of a hunt and Zorro means "Fox" so it's about a hunter and a fox, and who is going to outwit whom.

You've got some very interesting perspectives and insights on film analysis; I really enjoy this video.
I'd love to see you create videos for the RoboCop movies, as I'd like to see your perspective on each:
RoboCop is a surprisingly multi-layered film; RoboCop 2 is even more deceptive, as its themes are much more disguised by (of all things) not being as strong of a movie as the first. R2 had the impossible task of following up to the first, but the really interesting question to play with is, "How good of a sequel is it?" I've been very surprised by my own answers. RoboCop 3 is much less than the previous two, as it's deliberately made into a more straightforward "comic book" movie. It's not "bad", but I don't think one should go into it expecting the same level of maturity as the previous two films.
Wishing you all the very best!

I finally decided to watch this movie after hearing it being referenced in pop culture for so many years, and it was worth it. After watching it, I wanted to hear what other people thought about the movie, so it was nice to hear you talk about things i also noticed like character growth with Alejandro. You also pointed out some details and themes that i didn't notice while watching it. I also learned movie analyses things i didn't know before. This video is very well made, you will do well on your TH-cam journey.

Great video man. Last week I rewatched this movie to discuss it in my podcast (about its historical elements, in spanish). Your video helped me think about it in a film analysis fashion.

Hey I really love basically every Charlie Kaufman film, I think his writing is a treasure and I would love for you to analyze 'Being John Malkovich'. Or 'Synecdoche, New York' or basically any film written by Charlie Kaufman. *New subscriber*

I am so surprised that you don't have way more subs.
I think it just goes to show that this new generation is addicted to TikTok and very short form content. People don't think anymore, they want to be entertained for 15 seconds at a time.
All of which is so sad

I love how he finally started 7 min in by saying the rule of the first 30 seconds of a movie… lol. Bro take your own advice.
