The intro reminds me of a story Jenna told about how she loves soup so much, that she'd even eat it in the summer. And how she got it from the same place everyday and they told her "we only make this soup everyday for you, nobody else buys it when the weather is hot"
My sweet mama has dementia, but she can still make her famous potato soup like she always has. It was her cure for colds, skinned knees, and broken hearts. It's funny how one food can have so much sentimental value.
That’s a heartwarming story to hear your sweet mama can still make her soup for you 💜 ….it’s amazing how tastes and smells and things like music, as well, can break through the barriers of dementia. Bless you and you precious mama 🙏🏻💜💜
Not even close; your comment is laughable. Glad you enjoyed 4mins of silly talking before he even touched an ingredient. Simple minds will enjoy the mindless, minutes long, silly diatribes 100%.
You can tell as soon as the video ended Julien went straight to Jenna with that big fat bowl of rich Potato soup and she just enjoyed every bite of it! 🤍
He should be charged with attempted murder 😂😭 I was eating a spicy sandwich and I literally inhaled it. The laugh that came out of me was an unholy sound. The look on his face when it registered nearly ended my life 🤣
Everytime Julien says hey google, my entire house goes off the rails please sir. Peak Aries energy is causing chaos in households and he doesnt even know it.
My dog LOVED to play with normal potatoes (she’d eat sweet potatoes) if any pieces fell on the floor she would come flying around the corner to shred it. And more than once, she managed to steal a whole potato and she’d throw it into the air and catch it 😂. She wouldn’t eat them just play with them
My favorite thing to do with potato soup is IF I peel the potatoes, I like to fry the skins in a little vegetable oil and salt them while they chill on the paper towel lined plate. They are another nice crunch to add to the soup for more texture!
Aries Kitchen is the best cooking show, EVER! Julien is the funniest person ever. It's so nice to see you in your element, having fun and educating others on alternative foods. You rock.
Hey Julian! You helped me get into kitchen! As somebody who also has celiac disease, your recipes and videos have really helped me in my cooking journey. Thank you!
My husband ask me to make my potato soup all the time, ever since the first time I made it for him when we got together. No matter the weather. The way to a man’s heart is potato soup. 💕😂
Hi Julien!!!! Just thought I’d tell you that I totally stole your idea. My boyfriend and I cook together every weekend and since that’s what we are known for I decided to start a scrapbook called “Leos Kitchen” since we are both Leos…Even plan to custom make a sign for that and put it somewhere in his kitchen lol…anyways I love your channel and your cooking. I know Jenna is WELL FED!!!!!
The true magic of soup is that you can pretty much toss ingredients into the pot in any order all at once, let it simmer for maybe 40 minutes or so, and as long as you put in the correct ingredients it'll turn out just fine 👍
Happy celiac awareness month Julian!!!!! As a fellow celiac I deeply appreciate you talking about the food issues we have. I got diagnosed around the time I found your channel. You helped me realize that my diagnosis didn’t have to keep me away from food
Potato soup is pretty nostalgic for me. The first time I ever had it, my dad and I made it as part of a school project where we made food based on our cultural background. My grandpa and his brother are first gen immigrants from Ukraine so we did a Ukrainian potato soup and MAN it was good
so there's a british and irish staple called leek and potato soup: its hearty, well rounded, delicious, but, from what I see here, more flavourful and not as creamy (which I personally don't like). its my favourite in the winter!
I have Celiac Disease and we really like potato soup. I grew up eating it and now I make a vegan version. We tend to eat it more in the colder months but it is definitely a go to soup for us. Love seeing your weekly videos, Julien!🥔
don't know why i felt such a sense of pride when julien's soup ended up looking very similar to how my mamaw makes it. when he said, "it's very thick and creamy" is when i knew he had gotten it right lol. classic southern comfort food.
this video has influenced me like no other instagram or youtube or tiktok has before, i watched the intro of this video and immediately went to the store to make potato soup
Hearing him say potato soup always gluten in it is WILD to me! I make potato soup at least once a month through the fall and winter and there has never been a trace of gluten in it. I cant imagine having missed out on potato soup my whole life :(
It's most likely that he's talking about soups that use a roux or flour as thickening agents. Although yo could use cornstarch instead, and maybe the thickening agent wouldn't even be necessary fo you. Change how much cream/liquid you add to the potatoes.
Right? I've never added flour or cornstarch, etc to soup. Instead I like to hit it with the immersion blender and stir in some heavy cream. Literally as I was typing this he said he didn't want to do the immersion blender. 😅
Julen- you need to "cook" the flour for 2 minutes so it doesn't taste raw 😊 that's also how you make a roux, which is how you begin a white sauce/bechamel eg. for a lasagna.
I LOVE SOUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my favourite soup ever is my mum's chicken and rice noodle soup literally nothing hits better in this world!!! those baby corns MMMMM
Potato cheese; EmmyMade uploaded Thursday how to make it. When I make potato soup, I never add flour. Once you mash some of the potatoes, the soup will thicken on its own, which equals gluten free!
if you end up doing baked potatoes PLEASE cube the flesh like an avocado and then spread butter on it so it can seep into the cracks and then salt it before putting on any toppings. maybe im crazy but im like one of the few baked potato enjoyers out there
Looks so yummy! For summer I would actually recommend a Vichyssoise since it's a leek and potato soup served chilled. Not quite as hearty but just as delicious!
Celery onions carrots garlic. Sweat. Veggie stock, non dairy creamer and potatoes. Boil and simmer 1 hr. Add cornstarch slurry and top with whatever you want
Soup please...OMG potato soup!! Yes please...oh he liked it, my mom made potato soup when I was a child, and i have always loved it..I'm going to cry!!!
Hey Julen just thought you should know you can use cornstarch to thicken gravys and soups and it actually works a little better because it has no added taste
I love your cooking videos! Your ADHD energy reminds me so much of my bf, who is also an Aries w/ ADHD. I've been cooking GF for my boyfriend (NCGS) for about four years, so I completely understand the struggles of using gf ingredients! I think you might have used quite a bit too much flour though. GF flour is normally very starchy, so it reeeally thickens up in heated soups. I would use about 3-4 tbsp for that serving size. If you're open to suggestions, (please feel free to ignore) I par boil the potatoes for a little bit before frying them in the pan with the gf flour, the starches on the boiled potato really browns well and flavors the fond. I put vegetable/chicken bouillon in some of the starch water to add flavor and to mix some of it with the broth, then add that to the pan and scrape the fond. I feel like this adds so much flavor! If you like broccoli, I even char some broccoli (others do carrots, I've seen celery, sweet potatoes, etc) in the pan before the potatoes with a sweet onion. Oh and an immersion blender is perfect for the end if the soup isn't thick enough, instead of the potato masher. P.s if you cut the onion horizontally first, and vertically second, it's a lot easier/safer!
I make a version of this soup and boil the potatoes in the broth, drain and save the broth to do the rest of this recipe's instructions basically! that way as you add the potatoes back in, they just sorta crumble and fall apart naturally. my FAVE thing about this soup, is that its the perfect vessel for some yummy bread, like sourdough or i recently tried some focaccia!!
I appreciate you so much for showing how much vegan diets can be accessible over the years. I have tried multiple times over the years to transition to a more plant based diet, but for various reasons, both in and out of my control, it’s been difficult, especially since I’m a very picky eater. Most of my life, but especially when I was in college, I didn’t have much control over what foods I had access to so I never learned to cook anything other than the meat based foods I grew up on, but watching Ares kitchen has shown me that it’s possible to find vegan foods that I know I’ll like and aren’t necessarily just meat substitutes that can be expensive or have weird textures. Also is it your goal in life to trigger people’s google homes or is it just a fun perk? Cause now I have a 30 minute timer for no reason.
I got diagnosed with coeliac officially in January. When I first got the positive blood test one of the things I remembered that made it so much less daunting was that Julien also had it :) Thanks Julien
I love that Evan and Katelyn gave you a cutting board. My boyfriend and I bonded over the videos you and Jenna used to make and now we bond over Evan and Katelyn videos. Kinda feels full circle in a way.
I normally do a mirepoix with carrots and celery to add a little extra colour to my soup, but this sounds like a really good recipe, potato soup is one of my fave soups!
Honestly, i love blending some potatoes in soups that I just want a little more ~zhush~ from. In portugal we do that with something called caldo verde and it just adds some extra fun to the broth idk. I love potatoes in soup, it’s top tier
Potato soup is a meal my family tolerates because I love it so much. I'll make big batches and freeze them. Then, when I have left over chili, I will mix them together for a creamy, hearty soup that soothes the soul.
The intro reminds me of a story Jenna told about how she loves soup so much, that she'd even eat it in the summer. And how she got it from the same place everyday and they told her "we only make this soup everyday for you, nobody else buys it when the weather is hot"
"The perfect meal" Jenna Marbles 😂🐾
This exact monologue popped into my head as well
😭
what video was this in !
Why did this comment make me tear up omggggg ❤️😅🥲
My sweet mama has dementia, but she can still make her famous potato soup like she always has. It was her cure for colds, skinned knees, and broken hearts. It's funny how one food can have so much sentimental value.

I 100% believe food is a love language for a lot of people and cultures
Bless you both ❤ I'm so sorry for what she has to endure and that you have to watch the effects of it
I bet this was Jenna’s favorite recipe out of the potato journey 😂🥰
I wish we got to see how he Purposed 🥺 but I’ll forever know it was the most romantic & genuine moment
The girl loves soup 😂
Glad Jenna got some soup for dinner❤
She also probably hated that burner still being on behind julien for an unknown amount of time. Haha😂
You know she complained about the different sized potatoes though 🤣
I hope Jenna loved her soup 🫶🏻 it’s always time for soup
I swear to god there is a real Aries energy to not censoring the “hey google.”
Definitely a slur
Literally... The 'hey google stop' shut off my tv after i couldnt get it to connect to my youtube for like 10 mins...😂😭
I quite literally just adopted an orange cat yesterday and his name is potato soup. How fitting 😂
😂 so cute
Ps for short 🤭 pspsps
Julien is like the Mexican moms and grandmas that decide its a good time to make soup when its 100 degrees outside 😂❤
My mother made pozole yesterday. We’re in south texas 😅
My mom used to make caldo de res when it was like 104 degrees 😭 in the middle of summer
1000x yes that’s all I can say lol , for some reason they believe it’s better to have soup during the summer . 😂 I love it tho
True 😂
Omg, is that where the desire comes from??? I absolutely made soup the first week of 70+ weather we got this year😂😂 Aw, my ancestors are coming thru😂❤
Hands up if you love eating things and not dying 🙌
I can't eat mushrooms, so I fully agree with Julen 😂
I loved this part 😂
Are you planning on doing the tier list again after you’ve cooked all these recipes? I think that would be so fun
Second this
I believe he did say he would update it after
Jenna really brought all us soup fanatics together. Soup and pot pies/ pasties were my grandmothers love language so they’re my comfort foods.
Dude pasties are God tier
Julien has become such a respectable lvl 100 cooking boss not even Gordon Ramsay can insult him
so true
Not even close; your comment is laughable. Glad you enjoyed 4mins of silly talking before he even touched an ingredient. Simple minds will enjoy the mindless, minutes long, silly diatribes 100%.
I think Gordon could try ... But we Absolutely can’t care !
Tell me why I thought the answer to "What's the potato's favorite TV show?" was going to be M*A*S*H lmao
I'm low-key disappointed that it wasn't the answer lol
Sameeeeee
I’m just thrilled that you ate it and lived
What a time to be alive
You can tell as soon as the video ended Julien went straight to Jenna with that big fat bowl of rich Potato soup and she just enjoyed every bite of it! 🤍
The existential crisis he went through after saying "Thickener...I've hardly ever tried eatin' her" was gold. 🤣😂
LMAO I SCREAM LAUGHED AT THAT 🤣🤣
He should be charged with attempted murder 😂😭 I was eating a spicy sandwich and I literally inhaled it. The laugh that came out of me was an unholy sound. The look on his face when it registered nearly ended my life 🤣
Everytime Julien says hey google, my entire house goes off the rails please sir. Peak Aries energy is causing chaos in households and he doesnt even know it.
Oh he knows it 😂😂😂
I love putting kettle chips in my potato soup instead of crackers for the best of both tater textures 🥔
i need to try this rn
you're a genius!
THIS IS SO SMARTTTTT
I'm going to have to try that!!
Just a warning: Lays Kettle Chips are not GF.
Can you give the doggies cooked cubes of plain potato in this series need to know what they think
Sweet potato is better for dogs but dogs can have small amounts of standard potatoe.🐕🐾😊
My dog LOVED to play with normal potatoes (she’d eat sweet potatoes) if any pieces fell on the floor she would come flying around the corner to shred it. And more than once, she managed to steal a whole potato and she’d throw it into the air and catch it 😂. She wouldn’t eat them just play with them
Good for the pups with no teeth
This reminds me of the best era of TH-cam. This is a huge comfort channel for me. Especially this series
Fr this is the only youtube videos I’ve been excited & waiting for in years
My favorite thing to do with potato soup is IF I peel the potatoes, I like to fry the skins in a little vegetable oil and salt them while they chill on the paper towel lined plate. They are another nice crunch to add to the soup for more texture!
Now THATS a soup that will stick to your ribs after it puts you in a food coma
Julien needs to get a SLAPCHOP..think of how much fun it would be!
EEHHHHSLAPCHOPCHOPCHOPCHOPCHOPCHOPCHOP
Hey julien, I think after this potato series you should make a soup series! Trying different soups, happy wife happy life 😊
I second this!
I can already imagine Jenna saying how much she likes soup for the 100th time and I miss it so much
Aries Kitchen is the best cooking show, EVER! Julien is the funniest person ever. It's so nice to see you in your element, having fun and educating others on alternative foods. You rock.
julien needs to make a peely bag like what cristine has except instead of nail peelys it’s just potato peels
That's called compost
@@anadacosta4043 came here to write this exact comment 😂
@@anadacosta4043 This has me dead
@Musical_Nerd 😂 yes! He can show Cristine the next time they colab lol

Hey Julian! You helped me get into kitchen! As somebody who also has celiac disease, your recipes and videos have really helped me in my cooking journey. Thank you!
And honestly, my BF just asked me to make potato soup AGAIN! I tried to tell him it's not soup season. But, he's obsessed.
Is it a season? I make it all year
My husband ask me to make my potato soup all the time, ever since the first time I made it for him when we got together. No matter the weather. The way to a man’s heart is potato soup. 💕😂
there's a soup season?
That's the most decadent potato soup I've ever seen! My mum makes a great leek and potato soup.
Potato leek soup is honestly SO GOOD
Leek and potato soup is god tier
Not me screaming at the screen like Julien’s Dora the Explorer: “Don’t get the mandolin!”
0:43 missed opportunity to say "take it up with my soup-erviser"
Hi Julien!!!! Just thought I’d tell you that I totally stole your idea. “One of my favorite things is eating food and not dying afterwards”
Julen, as a celiac girlie, I felt that.
I am so happy to see some new recipes from you. I was just diagnosed with celiac disease and the first thing I thought of was all your old videos.
Happy celiac awareness month Julian!!!!! As a fellow celiac I deeply appreciate you talking about the food issues we have. I got diagnosed around the time I found your channel. You helped me realize that my diagnosis didn’t have to keep me away from food
“If anyone tells you that math is fun, don’t trust them; they’re probably a cop” was so valid.

I've never even heard of adding flour to potato soup. I had no idea it was common. Potato is the only thickener you really need!
It might be because a lot of restaurant soup is prepackaged

Im in culinary school and made potato soup yesterday!! I was thinking about YOUUUU when I made it 😂🥔
Just out of curiosity, was yours this thick? I like mine thinner than Julien made, and wondered how they teach you in school?
@StillJustDenise Easy to make it thinner just use more vegetable broth and less flour.
@@goeticfolklore That makes perfect sense,thanks!!
