  • I've had the Olympus Tough TG-6 for a while now but I've never really taken it out for a bit of street photography until now.
I have to admit I was impressed and this could well be the perfect every day camera that you can stick in a pocket and go anywhere with!
Come join me for a photo walk around Hornsea in Yorkshire and see what I think to the usability and ability to disappear with what looks like a "toy" camera. I was surprised and you might be too!
If you're interested in joining me on a personalised 1 to 1 workshop or photo walk, get in touch at leighw.photos/... and we'll sort something out. All abilities, both physical and photography wise are accounted for - and various locations around the UK are available.
If you enjoyed this video though, please do give it a thumbs up and leave a comment below with your thoughts - I'll be sure to read them all and I'll respond to as many as I can!

Some nice shots there. Haven't been to Hornsea for a few years, good spot for a little more relaxed coastal street and the groynes make a nice long expose subject. Always thought this range of cameras would make a good EDC choice, it has been in my head as a good replacement if/when my LX-15 breaks.

Thank you Glen, I must admit it's not a bad one to throw in the pocket and it's handy to know it's got a bit of rough and tumble resistance too!

Leigh that was interesting to hear from another photographer who uses this camera. I have a TG6 and use it for an everyday camera a bit as it is weather proof. Thomas Eisl on TH-cam does a several posts on the Olympus TG7 and they are almost the same and it is his favourite street camera. He even shows his settings for street photography. He also review the macro modes and has discovered it has the ability to produce macro shots with more micro detail than cameras with bigger sensors. It seems outrageous to state that but when you see his video on it I think you will be impressed. I will check out the spelling of his
    Name.

Thanks Chris! I'll see if I can find it! I've tuned the custom modes for my street settings and have things like quiet beeps, grid lines and tweaks to the shutter speed etc as I found it easier to do it that way. I must admit once you get used to not having a view finder it really is a lot of fun!

Nice video Leigh. I have also tried using my tg6 as a carry anywhere camera but I have always been disappointed with the quality of the images. Mainly the lack of sharpness. Still each to their own eh?

Cheers Terry! Not really noticed the sharpness being too bad to be honest, but I have got a few tweaks in the custom mode that may help a little. I definitely don't think it would stand up at night though but I might have to try it for a laugh 😂

I use the app which seems to be a lot better on bright days

Definitely think using a phone is going to be a massive improvement on bright days that's for sure!

Nice video Leigh. I have the TG6. And too many others! Using on A. I cannot manually select any apertures other than f 2.0, 2.8 and 8. In the other modes it will automatically select apertures up to f11. I can't figure it out. The manual doesn't mention any restrictions. Any ideas? Thanks

I'll have a bit of a look but I know it's not got many apertures to choose from like you'd get on a full size camera.

@@LeighWPhotos thanks! It's odd Olympus didn't include the information in the manual.
