I won't be upgrading my Amarok to the new model. To many of my contractors have had problems with their ranger gearboxes and even my parents had serious problems with their Kuga. They should have kept it vw mechanically. The Amaroks were bullet proof compared to Rangers.

Australian Ford Rangers are getting stuck in park, collision avoidance malfunctions at highway speed forcing the vehicle into unexpected emergency braking as well as having electrical issues with cluster and radio refusing to turn on
One day whilst I was driving somewhere in South Africa, I came across a farming town that's so proud of their hard working bakkies that when you enter the town limits, there's a sign there that says "Welcome to Isuzu County". Now that's a statement for you! When I stopped at a local fast food restaurant for lunch, I saw plenty of different generations of Isuzu bakkies (old and new) driving along the streets. An elderly gentleman also came in for lunch driving a late 90's model Isuzu and we chatted for a few minutes about his trusty old bakkie. He was a local farmer and when i asked why so many Isuzu's, his reply was that "everything else must still earn their stripes" Now that's another statement for you!

Nope! It wasn’t. VW says the collab was to save the Amarok as they didn’t have the budget to build a new model, otherwise they’d have to can the Amarok. I say it would have been better if they canned it than a rebadged Ford Ranger.
Currently own a V6 Amarok after owning a Ford Everest.....let's just say that my Amarok was a massive step forward. Absolutely no way I will be buying this bakkie after all the issues and poor workmanship I experienced from Ford. Time to look elsewhere unfortunately 😪
Excited for VW. Long overdue tech upgrades needed in an Amarok. I'm assuming VW gave the script for this promo and we can agree/disagree on are the wheel arches more rugged or not - I personally don't think they are more rugged but more refined than the previous model (but I like the new refined look anyway). But when it comes to factual comments, please get it right when doing a promo/review - the Amarok (like the Touareg) never had a DSG gearbox. It has always had a fully automatic gearbox with torque converter. Now, to the mommy dropping off kids at school (no disrespect), who cares about that - no big deal, but if you're marketing it to the "bakkie-mad enthusiast" (and you are), then at least get those very important facts right. Otherwise, well done VW!
Hello Jason. Thank you for the feedback. You are correct, the Amarok wasn't fitted with a DSG transmission but rather an "8-speed automatic transmission that was specially developed for the Amarok. The development emphasis was on efficiency, smooth gear shifting, weight reduction and reliability. The gearshift speed is at the level of the sportier DSG transmission. The 8-speed automatic transmission uses a torque converter. This allows for better response at low speeds and less resistance to slip than a DSG transmission. These are key factors during off road driving and towing." The above was taken from VW's press release upon the launch of the automatic version in 2013. We will always state when we quote the manufacturer - no one provides us with scripts for our reviews. And as for "marketing it to the 'bakkie-mad enthusiasts'" - bakkies nowadays have to appeal to buyers from all walks of life, including moms doing the school run.
Platform sharing is new. Ford & Mazda did it for years. Ranger and Drifter. For me the key difference here vs the Mercedes & Nissan is that the Amarok & Ranger were never cheap to begin with( in the v6 or top spec models). Amarok benefits by being a better bakkie. It Will really go down to preference ( same as it was back then in the days of drifter -Ranger days)
Mercedes X class range including the V6 was meant to be a premium product and wasn't cheap either. Lets face it, the second generation Navara just wasn't liked for some reason and the x class suffered as a result.
Both Ford & Mazda don’t have the street cred of VW products. Thus this platform sharing is as awkward as they come. A VW product with Ford DNA is unheard of. Thing is Ford & Mazda were in a merger, the same thing Mercedes & Chrysler had back in the day. The same thing that got Carlos Ghosn booted out of Nissan when he wanted to merge Nissan with Renault. Those are _mergers_ not _collaborations_ . with the latter being the nature of Ford & VW partnership.
VW has really screwed us here. I have the current Amarok Extreme and have been looking forward to the new Amarok since seeing the first rendered images. The current 3.0 v6 and 8 speed dsg is a match made in heaven and is light years better an anything I’m experienced in a bakkie. After having my current Amarok for 4 years, I cannot drive a Ford with a VW badge which means the next vehicle needs to be a Touareg but leave me without a bakkie. MASSIVELY DISAPPOINTED! Definitely will not be buying the new Amarok!
The only issue I have is the gear lever man, could they not have made it look more utilitarian/sportier. Even the gear lever in my 2022 Tiguan looks better

Apparently ford customers said they didn't want a rotary dial gear box with paddles so now we have this gear leaver. Sometimes you shouldn't listen to customers.
I won’t lie, after the navarah and ford came out. I was looking forward to seeing what amarok would do. Unless they drop an R line of this, it’s disappointing. Just like the hilux, Mazda have poor designs.
This looks soooo much better than the Ranger, wished we got it in the US. Pity they got rid of their own awesome V6 diesel for that shitty PSA sourced Ford V6 diesel, which is weak and was a complete failure here in the US. THEY REALLY NEED TO DO AN R VERSION WITH THERE OWN 4.0 LITRE V8 DIESEL AS A HALO CAR, THE Q WILL BE AROUND THE BLOCK FOR IT. BUCKY/Bakkie HEAVEN.

Great video! However, I noticed that the video quality could be improved. There's a lot of warping effect on close-up shots which cause a wobble effect on the video output. I would also suggest looking into the color profile you're using as the video color and grading could be improved. Keep up the good work
I think it's a step up for ford but for VW, it's a downgrade. The outgoing Amarok was old but it was a perfect combination of good stuff. It only needed a safety and tech upgrade... Not to be downgraded into a ford ranger

That is standard offroad that we've all done with our Amaroks. Would've been nice to see it on lose sand. Should've kept the Amarok gearbox, mine never ever gave a problem. Ford is not great with gearboxes, should've given them a far less vital part of the bakkie to mess with. I also would've liked to see you pull a load so this video was just made for looks. The older Amaroks (untouched by Ford) was beautiful and could work without fail.
The gearbox on the previous version was NOT a DSG unit. There is a reason VW fans did not buy the Ranger, even though it was arguably superior to the Amarok. I personally liked the looks of the previous Amarok and the packaging. Now it has lost its looks and character. I don't see current Amarok owners upgrading to this one. But I do see it being popular with fleet buyers. I guess VW will win at the end, at the expense of all 17 of their loyal fans. I wish anyone who buys this Land Rover V6 the VERY BEST of luck!

This bakkie looks nothing than the bakkie it shares a platform with and that being said having seen it in white it is the most stunning between the two but both are the best bakkies....
VW was just supposed to take previous model and give it a V6 R-Line version taking the bakkie to ford was a wrong move, new version looks okey I I’ll give it a 6.5/10 VW failed with the following : 1. Front look we = we needed R Line Version 2. Changing of Gearbox = could’ve just updated the gearbox in the previous amarok 3. We needed air conditioning for passenger seats in the back 4. And all those new colors on the new amarok sucks , please bring in other options of colors
