    Petrol motors nowadays are more reliable and cost less to maintain than diesels....

      True! The diesel price may fall, but maintenance is much more expensive. Volume of fluids, price of filters, let alone corrective maintenance!

    Great review, loved hearing your perspective! The Amarok Adventura really is a bid for the more city-oriented driver; VW themselves have said they've aimed to get SUV buyers interested in the Amarok, and the Adventura definitely shows that thinking. - Whether or not it really succeeds at that, that's the intent anyway.
    Whereas I'd point out to other commenters that the other top spec, the Amarok PanAmericana, is more aimed at the existing 4x4 ute market who would prefer rugged off-road equipment to the Aventura's luxury appointments and 21-inch wheels.
    As for the idea of "a ute for crossover SUV people", this is fine, but perhaps it's about time we bring back car-based utility vehicles to Australia hey?

      We aren't that thrilled with the turbo fours here in the US. The EPA makes it hard for us to get diesels in smaller vehicles though. Unless the GVM/GVWR of the vehicle is over 8,500 lbs a diesel is extremely rare.

    21 inch wheels? I can't imagine this would ever good off road, but this push for big wheels is really getting silly. Maybe VW are trying to appeal to rappers ? Thanks for the review.

    • @rexthesheep

      Yeah this one's more the city spec. The PanAmericana is the other top spec that's more geared at off-road adventures and doesn't have those huge wheels.

    Wow! you Aus folks have it so well. The cheapest Amarok Aventura here in Ireland (no petrol) 3.0 diesel starts at €70,890 which is 118451 Aus dollars. You pay 79,990 Aus dollars which is €47,871. Jesus that is a massive €23000 difference. We are being lifted out of it on car prices. Great review.

    So it's called the 'aventura' (adventure) but it's got wheels and an engine that aren't really suited to off roading and a tray that looks rather squashed.

    • @rexthesheep
      @rexthesheep ปีที่แล้ว

    That's all we ever get in the USA unfortunately.
    And we certainly can't get this VW.
    Such a shame considering how much Americans pride themselves on trucks. They keep a lot of them off the market.

    • @rich7447
      @rich7447 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The smaller pickups are a tough sell in the US. The Tacoma took over the mid-size market years ago and you really have to want a small truck to choose this segment. The price difference between the mid-size and full-size pickups is so little that it makes more sense to get the one that lets you put a full 4x8 sheet, snowmobile or 2 dirt bikes in the bed.

  • @rich7447
    @rich7447 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Parking a pickup is all about wing mirrors. The rear view mirror is only really useful for seeing what kind of mayhem the rear seat passengers are getting into.
    The parking space that you were backing into was big enough for a much larger vehicle. My Ram 2500 would have easily fit.

    Thanks for the review - I wonder how the traffic police will approach the issue of the driver being distracted too long while setting functions on the large infotainment system such as heating etc? - they’re very strong on penalties for mobile phone use especially VIC & NSW - I have a 2010 Hilux with conventional controls which are easy to ‘feel’ while driving - in other words what’s the difference in using your mobile phone or fiddling with the digital screen for several seconds while driving? - deal breakers for me are digital display, electronic parking break, unfriendly fiddly gear selector and turn binnacle on left side of steering wheel - the V6 diesel for this heavy vehicle is a no-brainer.

      @@Drivecomau I live in a remote area. None of the local mechanics are willing to work on a VW. This means I have to drive to Darwin whenever I need a service/repair. I am looking at a Ranger Rapter but again the dealership is in Darwin. A friend bought a new Ranger sport and I did a trip to the Victorian High Country with him. The Ranger performance was excellent. Another in our group had a new Hilux. The Hilux was alright but nowhere near the performance of the Ranger. Only dealership near me is Toyota.

    • @Drivecomau
      @Drivecomau  ปีที่แล้ว

      A shame that, especially since the Amarok and Ranger would tackle the terrain so well. Can't fault you for loving the Ranger, Sam did a review of the Ranger Raptor and performance excelled, even when flying it off a dirt ramp haha. While it sounds it's not a practical alternative given your living situation, the D-MAX even?

    $79K plus onroads for a 2.3 litre four cylinder turbo petrol engine. Righto. I think I'd much rather spend $51K driveaway for Tank 300 which comes with front and rear diff locks and put $30K into home renovations, but hey, that's the beauty of having choices. 🙂
