  • Based on a series of oral history interviews in 2011-2012 with seven members of the Temple Society who were born between 1918 and 1934, this film tells the unique migration story of the German-speaking Templers in their own words. Their life journeys took them across several continents and included internment during World War II and transportation to Australia. Unable to return to their adopted homeland they eventually settled in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. Visit www.templesociety.org.au for further details.

I believe Hulda Wagner is my grandmother's cousin or once removed. She looks and speaks astonishingly exactly like my grandmother, who I miss very much. It was very reassuring to watch her. Thank you for this great documentary, it is really nice to be able to get in touch with one's roots.

Loved this documentary - Beautifully captures Templer history. I congratulate all involved in this project especially our beautiful older Templers who told their stories. Great to see it now on You tube. Now our amazing, little known about and sometimes inappropriately distorted story - is finally told by us and can be shared. Ingrid Turner xxx

May I ask why did Brits decide to send them to Australia instead of Germany? Was is for their own colonial purposes, to have experienced Europeans in Australia? In that case, they just "stole" German knowledge to build their own empire.
