It kinda bothers me. 2 lines could have easily been done better. "He will be careful too," and "whenever my end is served by his means." "He will be careful too" is just too redundant to me. It's like singing about the guy in front of you in line for ice cream and subtly implying that he also might want some ice cream. "Whenever my end is served by his means." bugs me because, again, it's obvious. They both know their deaths will be brought on by the other as that's the whole point of this collision course. Lines that only serve to pander to people who know the franchise just bug me because the original series and manga were both created so that newcomers would be able to experience them free. There's nothing in the manga or show that looks at the audience and goes "you've seen death note, right?"

If I had to guess, they are going to gauge the success in Japan, and adapt it if it is successful. After all, if they can't sell it in Japan, where manga/anime is most popular and anime bears no stigma, it probably won't survive in Stateside (or elsewhere)
