    Great stuff! You always knew a Nudie! My mom lived next door to Porter Wagoner when he was an up and comer and just starting to get his look going. Great post!

      @@THEjohnnyfalstaff No. I don't remember exactly. I do know my mother lived in Missouri. I would guess either Sedalia or Joplin. I'm leaning towards Sedalia Mo.
      She was around 15 and he was older. Him and the band he had would always sit on his porch playing music. Mom said they'd always whistle at her if she walked by lol.

    Thanks for that. I knew them as Nudie Suits for a very long time before I understood the story behind them. Awesome. From the days when musicians had some appreciation for the "show".

    I always loved those Nudie suits on Buck and the boys.I want one or 2 but they’re so expensive.
    I’ve always fronted country bands and I’ve always thought we were supposed to be looking sharp.

    Was at the Lankersheim store once in the early 80s. Bought a rufflled shirt. The store was very large, almost warehouse-like. And it had mostly brand name clothes, like H Bar C, the Nudie made stuff being available by request/appointment. The knid of place you could spend 12 hours in and still never see it all.

      @@THEjohnnyfalstaff Yes, several. Oohs & ahhs for days. There were also lots of plain western shirts, formally wrapped in cellophane packaging, pinned to the cardboard stiffeners. Very old school. The odd (sad) part was, I was the only customer in the store.

      What? The only customer? Man, that is sad...but we had it similar in Houston (minus the Nudie suits, of course)...old school western wear store - cellophaned H Bar C shirts and very few shoppers.

    You would make a fine narrator for all the classic biography shows about the musicians of early County Music. Fire Marty Stewart and give you his job. I understand Marty has the largest collection of those suits in the World....Pretty sure. I enjoy the history lessons you put out. Well made, Brother.     The ONLY time I ever considered having a baby happened at Nudie's on Lankershim in 1992. I was looking around in awe at everything, hoping to spot someone famous (especially Dwight Yoakam), and saw a pair of baby diaper pins. There were little guns in holsters! Damn, I should've gotten them regardless.

The only time I've seen that happen. BTW, my son's gone from a chubby kid to a handsome young man...he's the angry teen in this music video (I did some of the makeup fx for the shoot). I'm in Atlanta and work at Silver Scream FX (you can find me under the artists tab at silverscreamfxlab.com). We're the folks who made the Cheddar Goblin for the Nicholas Cage movie, Mandy.
