- In this video I run a recce of the Kentmere Horseshoe fell race taking place Sunday July 16th 2023.
12.3 miles with 3301ft of elevation it is described as a 'long medium race.'
I love the Kentmere Horseshoe. The fells around this part of the Lake District are distinct with their undulating grassy slopes which make this route a nice fast runnable fell race. Course record for men is 1:22hrs and course record for women is 1:29hr. That's fast!
I'm looking forward to this race. However, I'm feeling a bit broken from the Wasdale fell race which I ran yesterday (July 8th 2023) for those of you reading this in the distant future.
At 21 miles with over 9000ft of elevation the Wasdale is a beast of a race.
Short race video will follow in the next few days, but in the meantime I'm not moving from my sofa!

Love Kentmere HS and yeah, parking is a bugger. If you want to extend it to about 18 miles, start from Staveley & follow the bridleway all the way to Kentmere. Takes a bit of extra planning but it's totally worth it for a great day out :)

Another great vid John. A lovely Horseshoe - agree with you. Stretch from Ill bell to High st is awesome (agree - worth a trip to Thornthwaite for the cairn). I think I know what my next run will be

Superb. Never done this horseshoe before mate, I’ve never explored Kentmere. Thinking this may be the next wild camp - just the parking puts me off. Looks quite runnable, even for slobs like me ⛰️
Make the effort mate, there’s a cool cave up there too, but yeah the parking sitch is a pain.

Brill photography as usual John.well done on that. Especially since you must have to keep turning back on yourself to collect the camera.👍 Two suggestions though fella. When you point out things "there" "over there" "that big lump". I have no idea what you're pointing to or looking at exactly. So I'm absolutely none the wiser what you mean. Could you arrow it or circle it in the edit? That would be helpful.👍 Also ,I'd like to let the kids watch these but there's just too much unexpected swearing sometimes. Any chance of a swear warning in advance or toning it down to get a few younger viewers interested 👍 Cheers keep up the great running.

Great vid sir! Hiked the "classic" route last year in the snow, epic day out, will have to come and run it one day now. Seems like there's quite a few little differences with the fell race route compared to the hiling route which hits all the tops, might just be my memory though!

Brilliant race. Let’s get things straight though, it absolutely wasn’t a case of ‘bombing it down’ off Kentmere Pike. Once you go over a style you missed the bit we would be down through a river 😂😂😂
