Most of the object/person-tracking gimbals you see are phone-based, and for a very good reason. The camera needs to be integrated with the gimbal because the camera detects the object and then tells the gimbal where to move. Standalone cameras aren't generally designed to track objects and communicate that info to third parties. But a phone app that works with a particular gimbal brand CAN do that. The one exception I've noticed (and there maybe others) is the Hohem iSteadyMT2 It gets around this issue by having a tracker device on the subject, which is sensed by the gimbal. I have NOT tested this (Hohem, are you listening?) so I don't know how well it works. But it's worth diving into.
@@MatthewHaines Oh I see, thank you so much for that detailed response. Although, I am still a little confused about which budget gimbals work with this "phone" method. I have the DJI RS3 Mini and the Cinepeer Weebil 3E on my mind. Do these gimbals work that way?
It's going to be only phone-specific gimbals, not ones that support cameras. Like the Zhiyun Smooth 5S, the Hohem mobile gimbals and the DJI Osmo Mobile 6.
I’ve been looking for a budget gimbal that has the ability to track the subject. I have an FX3, do you think there are any gimbals that do that?
