The G in the last site is for “group” hence the two picnic tables.
BTW would love a meetup. Maybe set up a few meetups for coffee and you can vet the normal folks.

That site #1 used to be at the bottom of the hill, across from that info kiosk you passed, before they cut that area off.
Those sites also used to be free to use til about a year or two ago.
A few years ago, when I went by #3, there was a group there that had a job johnny set up on site.
#5 is a group camping site hence it's designation PCG1.
FYI: There are no toilet facilities or water at these sites. However, 2 used to have a spring near it.

Campsite scouting is one of my favorite things to do. Usually utilizing iOverlander, Google Maps satellite view and Google Earth since driving to them isn't an option until I'm ready to go camping. There are several trails in the Ouachita Mountains and Ozarks I want to hike when weather permits so finding campsites kinda sorta near the trailheads has been a quest of late. So yeah, more of this would be great, along with your other content. Loved sites 3 and 4 that you toured for us. Kinda hard to pick a favorite between them.
FYI You can use a Mr. Buddy propane heater, or two, in a tent. We did at Palo Duro Canyon this past March with lows in the upper 20s. Probably would have kept us warmer had there not been super high winds. Still made it easier to crawl out of the sleeping bag come morning.

Definitely to keep out vehicles. No need to needlessly rut up the ground. Cliff , thank you for taking me on many an adventure. I’ve watched you channel for a while now. Subbed a while back. I’m in northeast Ohio, but pretty much grew up in potter county near Galeton. It was really nice to see you stop by the lumber museum and denton hill state park. I learned to ski there. Lots of great times. Wayne in Ohio.

I actually camped at site #4 about 5 years ago, ill share my experience. We really enjoyed the site up until the early evening, then things became weird. Vehicles started flying by every few minutes heading up to the fire tower. I am not sure what was going on but they would stay for a short time and then race back out. This went on for hours and then about midnight a car stopped right at the campsite and sat there for a few mins then raced off. I'm guessing it was kids partying at the fire tower, but it just didn't feel right or safe. We also noticed the same couple cars came and went for hours, and you know its not a short drive up the gravel road from 61. Sometimes they would hit the brakes and creep by the campsite, but after the one stopped and idled there for a few minutes at midnight we didn't feel safe so we got out of there leaving all our stuff and went home. The next day we drove back and packed up our tent and things and left. This was on a Friday or Saturday night in the summer. I know things change so who knows if this stuff is still going on. I hope you have a better experience if you stay there.

Completely agree with the poles!! I understand the concept, but definitely an eye sore and takes away from the “natural feel”. We did our truck camping video on site 2, and Christmas camping video on site 4. Site #4 by far my favorite!!! But staying at site #2, you barely get any traffic going by.

I deal with people all day in my work. So for me camping is an escape. I prefer a more secluded campsite where you have to walk-in for car camping. Not being able to see cars or other campers would be ideal. For me backpacking and backcountry camping is my favorite type. But, that is not always possible. Out of these sites it would be 4 then 5. I prefer camping in cooler weather. One of my fondest memories was earning my Wilderness Survival merit badge during a December campout. In cub scouts and boy scouts we had a weekend camping trip every month of the year.

What you need for camping in the State Forest is a small chainsaw. You can cut up dead wood for the fire without buying bundles like a city tourist. Obviously, no cutting down live trees. We camped in the Loyalsock State Forest for years. Some of the best times of my life were camping there with a group of friends. Try camping there, you'll love it.

I would go with 2 or 4. The road to site 2 was the original access to the old fire tower, which is no longer there, before the new road was put in. When I was a young pup growing up in Hamburg in the 60's we used to go up to the fire tower frequently. When the ranger was there he would leave us come in to the tower and chat a while. I remember he said he would walk up the road to the tower instead of driving. Thats a nice commute. Back in those days we could camp right at the tower. Not as many rules and regulations as today.

The stripes on the poles mean atv or snowmobiles are not goint to crash into. Tent ot hit the poles and die like they did with all black poles on the Silver Comet trail. Poles protect renters. Stripes protect the vehicles from hitting and being thrown and dying.

We used to go often in the winter to parks where the campground was closed, but the road open to check out the sites. Thats the best way if you can. After we broke up,there hasn't been any more trips. I miss those trips.😢 Also,I heard there's been Bigfoot activity in that area. Be viligent, but keep recording if you have a sightings. Lol. Loved this one, even tho it was bitter sweet. ❤❤❤❤❤

You can easily get up there with a minivan with no snow. The first hill is somewhat washboarded when you come off route 61 but no clearance problems. I've had my little Hyundai Elantra up there many times in the summer. All that said, I was up there Jan 6 in the snow with my Jeep and there was a VW Jetta coming down with no problem. Just take your time and you'll be OK. BTW I have T-Mobile and I have some service up there.. not everywhere but it's not totally dead either.
