There are only certain days it's legal to breath air the rest of the time hold your breath. I was free until I turned 5 and they made me go to school. Lol

Pan where ever you want...it’s a free country and you have rights for the taxes you pay...why do we listen to the government who doesn’t listen to us as a people...ask yourself that. Fear of jail time...get a good lawyer

A lawyer costs 10k per case. Fk you mean go do it anyway? These cops don't give a fk about you. To them it's a ticket or fine or arrest. To you time lost, thousands of dollars lost, criminal record... great advice....

The law is in place basically to keep from having hoards of people looking for gold and destroying the ecosystem on public land. I’m sure if you venture out in isolated areas and keep your project simple you’ll be able to fly under the radar, obviously discretion is key.

To gold pan around there I have been there with a rock club years ago. We chose a more narrow part of the stream and looked for the black sand to pan in. Was alot of fun.

A nugget was found in centre county. Lancaster is a good location to pan. In Pennsylvania you can pan on private land only with the land owner permission (I suggest you get it written on paper). Panning and sluicing is permitted but, dredging is not in Pennsylvania. Legally your able to pan on state and national park land but, you'll be told otherwise. Any minerals, etc, even if on your own land mined for profit requires a mining permit. Contact mining clubs/groups for info.

Just so you guys know if you get a letter for the county on prospecting gold in PA creeks and rivers you are allowed to on public lands I have a letter stating that I am allowed to prospect for gold and other minerals in public lands just not private land you need a written statement saying you can prospect in PA. I'm not getting in a debate about it because I have a letter stating I can prospect for gold in PA creeks and rivers, directly from dauphin county.

Absolutely not! I have never found gold in SW pa, especially not near Kelly station, allegheny river pool 6, hydroelectric dam side in the gravels. Rosebud mining strictly forbids any entrance on their property!

On a serious note. Yes, there's gold around. Ive found some on the riverbank on my above mentioned location. Plenty of river gravel to work through. But!!!! Theres not alot to be found, super tiny flour gold and dust and you have to process a bunch of material. I have a goldhog sluice and it takes about 5 buckets of classified (1/8 inch classifier) material to get even a few small specks. However, its in our area. Just be ready to pan or sluice out a bunch of iron and lead shot lol. Good luck!
Also, Rosebud does own the area, but they allow activities, just no overnight camping, but you can nightfish or hang out at night.

That's good. How did you go about getting it? Did you just contact your county? Did they have a special channel for you to go through? I'm interested in coming out that way to do some panning.

I just received a pan in the mail. I am in SW PA. I took it to a local stream. Kept my eye out for quartz and such. Swear to God I found a teeny tiny piece of flour gold. I am taking it to work. We have microscope cameras and even an electron scanning microscope. Will confirm.
I don't think anyone could get rich doing this BUT it was tons of fun! I am a rock nerd so I just loved playing in the creek plus I can remove any garbage I come across. Next time I will take a proper trash bag with me to pick up the junk I come across. I made sure to put back the rocks as they were as best I could.
Any day outside in the creek and mud and rocks beats sitting in front of the TV!

Hey there, do you think there is gold in ancient river beds along the Lackawanna river? I was digging footers and found 8 foot layers of oxidized river rock packed with pyrite, gray ash looking stuff and sand. Then around 15 ft were large boulders but I have no excavation equipment. cheers

I don't know enough about that area to be sure. But there generally needs to have been volcanic or sub-volcanic activity in the area at some point in the past or what is called Igneous Intrusions.

Here in upstate New York, gold and silver and any other precious minerals belongs to the state.
They just do it because they don't want the environment turned upside down by shotty mining.
Would be nice if we could just go out there and pan some creeks and find a few nuggets but it's just not allowed.

Hello, great video, even though I am only seeing it for the first time now. I was wondering what part of the park you were in when filming? Or would you recommend another location there, if someone was to try their hand at a pan or two? Thanks again for the video. I am just getting started in looking for places to pan and I live in Media, PA so this place is somewhat local to me.
