- We follow up our last trip with a decent outing just two days after.
Captain Chris jigs up 3 yellowfin to start the day. We have a little lull but as the fleet disperses......the fishing improves.
New Jigging Setup:
Reel Shimano Saragossa 10000
Rod OTI Fathom Blade Jigging Rod 5'10" model OTI-FB510300S
Nice work boys. Zack is a elite tuna fisherman the way he fights the fish it’s like he’s one with the fish. Gets in that groove. Chris does it too! I learned a lot from this video thanks fellas
love the eating parts with your family towards the end and the boat show! keep up the good content brother
Thanks so much Rob!!! I'm gonna try to do more of that stuff.
Awesome video again Capt Chris. It was nice to see you in the action catching fish. You rarely do that and i enjoyed seeing hooked up to the rod this trip. Happy times.
Thanks 👍
Great vid Chris! I have never got one on the jig but it looks like loads of fun. Nice job!
thanks for watching Kevin. It's addicting.
@@reaperfishingnj8623 Did I miss it? Did you ever show the jigging rig you said you were going to show later?
Love your videos. They are the few videos that keep me watching till the end. I would really love to see some shots of your fish finder though. 😉😉👍👍
Thank you so much Mike!!! Appreciate the kind words. I'll try and add a few!!!
@@reaperfishingnj8623 We should do a video together this fall. 👍👍. Shoot me an email mikesmedley9@gmail.com
Captain Chris, another great video. Team Reaper is on fire. Nice to see your family enjoying the bounty from the ocean. If that was your niece and nephew from a Fluking episode from a few years back... they are growing like weeds. Tight lines!
Thanks so much Christopher! Its honestly been a tough season for us. We just can't get out.
Yea man they sure are. He's gonna be driving next year and she looks like a young Julia Roberts. My sister is screwed!!! I'm hoping Nick stays with me all summer next year. He's my own personal Shadow!!
Nice job Chris. My uncle and I went out two days in a row and did pretty well the first day but then went to the canyons and killed some very nice sized tiles. Also before that I caught my first bigeye ever at 16 years of age. Love the videos keep it up man.
That's great!! Thanks so much for watching
What a fun video man. Jigging them looks like so much fun!! Big thumbs up
Thanks dude!!
Nice that your able to jig and chunk up tuna instead of doing the old "Troll all day and set up for night fishing" Well done!!
Thanks so much Craig. I think my overnighter days are over. I can't even squeeze out for one day anymore.
Great video as always! Shocked you stayed with that crowd... I know you like to do your own thing ... thanks for posting!
Every now and then you just gotta stick with the crowd if it looks real good. Often most of the fleet aint doing it right so we can eek out some fish
Glad you finally got the jigging bug!! soo much fun...my favorite together with chunking. Way to go
I love it!
Another great day for the Reaper team. It doesn’t get much better than that! Congratulations and thanks for the video. BTW, I went to that Asian market, they had all that I wanted. Thanks again!
Thanks so much for watching!!! It's so fun there!!!
well that was worth the winter wait, well done.
Thanks as always Jon!!
Another great catch Reaper Team !! Looks delicious !!
Thanks as always Charles!! Sure was
I was “Super Pumped” to see this new video. I wish we had yellows that close in RI.
Thank you so much for watching!!
@@reaperfishingnj8623 I love your content no problem
Great video brother, loved it, and if you want to see some boats on the water. Venture on down my way on opening scallop weekend, lobster mini season, or the stupid 3 day derby style ARS snapper season we have in Fla on the east coast LOL. Stay safe and keep up the good work.
Capt Chris ALWAYS on the fish
We try Trance!!! Thanks as always for watching
What a Fun video, Thanks Chris!
Glad you enjoyed it! thank you so much for watching!!
I’ll love to know what jig you were using, I tuna fish off the coast of Delaware, I’ve probably seen your boat out there! We mostly chunk our tuna but have gotten into jigging a few years back, have all the jigs you could buy but the more information the better, thanks reaper!
Nomad 120 g Streaker
trolled a few times before but always wanted to do this. great vid!
thanks for watching Hef!! Just gotta commit to the jig n chunk. trust me it works and it's so much more fun than trolling
thank you so much for the awesome videos by far the best i have ever seen
Wow, thanks!
That was fun tuna fishing video.
Thank you so much for watching!
good one ! yesterday was a pricy day ????? lol! I just subed you. love seeing your stuff man!!!! keep it going!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Love the video brother! Just got into offshore tuna fishing. I want to hone in my jigging technique this year. When popping/jigging do you think the heavy EZ clips are ok or would you suggest directly tieing to the tackle? Thanks in advance!
Yea I think they are fine!
LETS GOOOO GOOD JOB CAPT SHOWING THEM HOW ITS DONE 👍
thanks so much Jay
Captain Chris you and your crew are beasts when it comes to these yellowfins. Love watching your videos! What kind of jig and what ounces are you guys using on this trip?
Thanks so much MIchael! Nomad Streaker 120 oz.
OMG, its a freekn parking lot out there Capt.... Glad you got in'm.....
it was nuts Sean. Thanks so much for watching
Love watching your videos. I’ve watched all of them 3 times at least. We mainly run out of delaware and ocean city md. So i don’t know what the fishing is like up here except for watching your videos. I’ll be in barnigate for a week with the boat and I’m bringing out my nephews and cousins. If you have any advice on spots, techniques etc it would be greatly appreciated.
You looking for tuna fishing out of barnegat? Or just any type of fishing. Few reefs right out of the inlet, barnegat reef is about 3.5nm out of the inlet, then 2 to the south garden state north and south reefs. Can go for fluke or seabass there. Would reccomend the garden state reefs over barnegat reef
@@erictrust3409 awesome thank you. Yeah i would like to try to catch a tuna and have been doing it for years down south. But down there this time of the year there are just some spots that typically hold tuna and i don’t know many of them and if they’re holding fish. Thanks for the info. The kids will definitely love fluking and seabassing. Thanks capt.
thank you so much Andrew. Don't think it's a spot burn by saying anywhere around the Resor wreck and the AP wreck. Look for slicks and chicks.
You sir have skills.
Thanks so much Gary. We try!
On your spinning outfit, what size and length leader do you use? Flouro? is it a wind on or how do you attach to the braid? Great videos, thank for for sharing knowledge....
typically 60 fluoro. only about a 4-6 ft length. I use a double albright knot or the FG
Great video Chris! Not a big fan of the spinning gear for jigging. I know most like it but it just feels awkward for me once hooked up. I too have Gosa 10K with a matching Grappler jigging rod. Can you tell me what outfit Zack was using to land the last fish in the video? Thanks again for great videos. I always learn something.
THat was a Penn Fathom 40 NLD (single speed) and one of his homemade spiral wrapped chunking rods. It's about 5'8" or so
@@reaperfishingnj8623 Thank you. I may buy one of those reels and match it to a OTI spiral wrapped rod and give that a try.
Fired up ! Been waiting for this
Thanks so much for watching!
HEY Chris just watched this video and loved it! if you dont mind How close to the shore can you find tuna? and what time of the year they get clos to the shore in NJ? (have a 21ft cc)
Thank you so much for watching. Typically mid July you can find them as close as 20 or so miles off the DE or north Jersey coast. totally doable on a 21 CC, but you hafta know your limits with the weather!!!
Oh my gosh! Another banger of a video. How do you make such insane thumbnails? Keep up the amazingness Chris!
PS: What rod and reel is that?
From what it looks like he’s using a Shimano Saragosa SW 10000/w a
Ocean Tackle International Fathom Blade Jigging Rod.
@@PredAilen thanks bro
Yup. Shimano Saragossa 10000, OTI Fathom Blade Model OTI-FB510300S 5'10". The man knows his gear!!!
With regards to the thumbnails....that's Captain Zac. I'm pretty much computer illiterate and have the patience of a gnat!!
@@reaperfishingnj8623 Chris, thanks for the effort. My thumbnails are worse than I care to admit and I am looking for a better way to make them. Give Zac a nice job from me for the thumbnail. He did great.
That's what tuna fishing is all about
nice video sick fishing keep up the great work what Jigs are you using i like get some my self please thank you
Nomad Streaker 120
Any chance you'd take me and my kayak out there and drop me right on top of some Yellow fins? I live in Jackson and fish the squan area everyday. Dying to fight a tuna from the kayak lol.
Small boat in front of you, was this an inshore lump or masseys? Great job
This was up by the AP last year
Great video. what hooks / size are you using chunking ?
Gamakatsu 4/0 and 5/0 4x strong octopus circle
Thanks for the tow 🤙
Love the offshore vids! What gram/oz jigs were you using?
Thank you so much. 120 gram
Thats wild the amount of boats out there. How far inshore were you guys?
40 miles or so from the closest inlet. about 60 or so for us
Awesome!!! What rod and reel combo were you using for jigging?
Thanks so much Jason. Shimano Saragossa 10000 on an OTI Fathom Blade Jigging Rod 5'10. i'll add specs to video description
Awesome video man getting it done. Did you get to meet MJ?
Thanks so much Cody. I didn't meet him but I was within 20 ft of him. He's a cigar chain smoker!!! And his boat is just unreal. Luckily I knew some of the crew on the boats parked right next to him.
@@reaperfishingnj8623 so no autograph
@@codyfegely8414 Nah. He was hanging with friends and crew/family. I didn't want to bother him.
@@reaperfishingnj8623 still pretty cool you got to see him from a distance
Thanks for the video
Our pleasure!
Good stuff guys
thanks so much!
I would be great to see how you dispatch and handle the tuna for the table. I see you spike them; but do you bleed them, hang them overboard? How do you handle your tuna to make them the best table fare possible?
Hey Scott, sorry for late response, yes we started spiking all our fish as to be humane as possible by shutting down brain, generally we plunge a knife 3-4 inches right behind pectoral fin which will get them bled well, lately though we’ve been cutting around gill plate and cutting around anal cavity to free up intestines and you can pull all the inners out . Works great
completely awesome some day i,ll catch one
Thanks so much Ronald. You'll get em!!
Haha! I’m curious, how much was the new jogging rod?
pretty sure it was around 250 bucks. It's now 191.99 on the Tackle Direct website.
Yeww! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much Jared.
Let’s get em
Could you use the saragosa jigging outfit you have for casting to fish? I am looking for a rod that jigs and casts decent.
You can but it's not ideal honestly.
Was that your super secret lump 😂
Ha!!!
Great video as usual. Dr Manhattan was from Watchmen
Thanks so much for watching James. Funny I couldn't remember that at the time cuz I absolutely love that movie and he's my favorite character
If there was a storm the day before you went fishing does it affect fishing
Hey capt how much anchor line do you have on the big boat for anchoring on wrecks
We have about 500 ft.
Great video's! Would love to fish with you guys
Since he became TH-cam famous you can't afford a trip with him
I was clearly at the wrong lump this weekend lol.
ha. thanks for watching
@@reaperfishingnj8623 I hope we pick the right lump tomorrow. First trip out for a friends 23 stieger, leaving from LEI. North or south... Thanks for the vids, you and Zac make a great team.
Do you tie the jig directly to the leader? Or dot you have the jig on a split ring and krimp the line to the split ring?
50 lb braid. Double albright knot to about 3-4 ft 60 mono. Tied direct to jig using improved clinch
What is your line size and leader size on your spinning jigging rod?
50 lb braid. 60 pound leader.
I’m guessing this was that insane ap bite that we had over tha last week lol
correct. Thanks for watching
Was this at the cigar?
How many miles out were you? If you don’t mind disclosing that
63 NE of my inlet. 39 or so from closest inlet. See above comments! It's no secret.
@@reaperfishingnj8623 how far ? I’m form Atlantic City NJ . Thank you
Any reports of mahi inside 15-20?
not quite that close Tim.
What’s the perfect spinning setup for jigging for them?
:
Reel Shimano Saragossa 10000
Rod OTI Fathom Blade Jigging Rod 5'10" model OTI-FB510300S
Thank you
Awesome video, last year I caught a big bluefin on the jig,you guys are on fire 🔥 this year ,it's been a hard season off long Island, tight line Capt Chris , LOL the credit card bill ,it was worth it ,you put the new pole to work 💪
Thanks as always for watching Dennis. It's actually been a really tough year for us. I've only ran 3 dedicated tuna trips. Usually by this time of year that's more like 10-15. Work and weather is just killing me.
Was this Saturday?
negative. Thursday 7/15 I believe
What Rod/Reel were you using?
Just added it to the video description
How many pound line do you have on that reel ?

@@reaperfishingnj8623 its a very popular comment for old music videos. My attempt at humor. You guys do great. Looking forward to your barn ridge trip. We have been getting king mackerals this year and thats it on the ridge.
Lest you could have gave the rod to one of the kids
God no. Not on a jig fish. Any other time I want the rod outta my hand asap!!
