  • Why is KERALA different!? | India Vlog 2024 🇮🇳
    Hey guys!
    Explore Kerala with us!
Our journey lands us in Alappuzha, Kerala - was an adventure filled with cultural immersion and foodie delights. After arriving, we settled into Khaleel's homestay (link below), a cozy retreat that instantly made us feel at home. Khaleel, our gracious host, wasted no time introducing us to the local scene.
Our first culinary escapade led us to savor the best of Kerala seafood, a gastronomic experience that tantalized our taste buds and left us craving for more. Following our seafood feast, Khaleel took us on a stroll to experience the quintessential chai culture of Kerala. Sipping on aromatic chai from a roadside stall, surrounded by the bustling energy of the streets, we felt the pulse of everyday life in Alappuzha.
To unwind and rejuvenate, we indulged in an Ayurvedic Podkhizhi massage, a traditional therapy that left us feeling invigorated and refreshed. As the day turned to night, we found ourselves drawn back to the lively chai wallah, where we seized the opportunity to engage with locals and fellow travelers.
Through impromptu interviews, we discovered why Kerala holds a special place in the hearts of many. Foreigners and locals alike shared their insights on Kerala's unique culture, mesmerizing backwaters, and delectable cuisine. From the tranquil backwaters of Alappuzha to the vibrant streets alive with chai vendors, our Alappuzha travel vlog captured the essence of Kerala's charm.
In the end, our exploration of Kerala left us enchanted and inspired, eager to delve deeper into its rich tapestry of experiences. As we bid farewell to Alappuzha, we carried with us memories of warmth, flavor, and the enduring allure of God's Own Country.
    Lots of Love,
    Mac n Keen

Kerala people are soft spoken, in fact most South Indian people are very soft spoken and humble until someone really trigger their feelings.
People really respect your boundaries in South especially when you are a tourist people really don’t wanna bother you asking for Selfies, mobbing tourists in crowded places to sell things are a rare scene in down south.

Basically, when compared to other parts of India, especially the North, Kerala’s social reform movement cause a lot of changes in Kerala in their culture, lifestyle, religious harmony, and daily life.
Educational reforms were also initiated through the renaissance movements in Kerala. This brought a serious approach towards education, which has impacted the overall society of Kerala by changing their way of thinking and applying logic. These movements introduced enlightenment within Kerala, and this was done through lower castes mostly.

So they have little local industries due to leftist communist rule, but still lots of money. So this gives a false idea as to WHY. Also the HDI method is also very flawed. And are you saying Kerela is not 'main stream india' what the heck is 'main stream india' ? Now under MOdi and Yogi, UP and Gujrat are reforming fast and not at all the leftist communist type of reforms but capitalism and industries as in China and Japan. Keralaits know how good they are and keep calm and humble, they know eventually all of them will come to know about Kerala and its people because it's a gem. It may sound too generalized. Keralaits know their state is very beautiful and abundant with natural resources, people are very very educated yet love their culture and nature. It's like a mix of people of Shire from Hobbiton with quick mind and Modern Japanese tech savvy. Keralaits is the least racial place on Earth, people with communal harmony with all religions co existing with each other happily than any other place on Earth. People who are not afraid of asking difficult questions. They travel all around the world and learn something new from there and bring it back to Kerala. They spread love wherever they go. Have a common love for nature. Very high humor levels. Very creative in almost every field. The list goes on and on. In short, once when India was the center of world, Kerala was the trade getaway/center of all of it. Kerala or Tamilagam at ancient times had relations with the ancestors of every trading countries ever existed.

Kerala stands out from other states in India for several reasons:
    1. **High Human Development Indices:** Kerala boasts high literacy rates, low infant mortality rates, and high life expectancy compared to other states in India.
    2. **Social Indicators:** Kerala has made significant strides in healthcare and education, leading to better social indicators such as lower birth rates and higher life expectancy.
    3. **Social Reforms:** The state has a history of social reform movements that have influenced its society, including movements for gender equality, education, and land reforms.
    4. **Political Landscape:** Kerala has a vibrant political landscape with a tradition of coalition politics and a strong presence of left-wing ideologies, which has shaped its governance and policies.
    5. **Economic Structure:** The economy of Kerala is characterized by a high degree of remittances from expatriates, a strong service sector, and a significant contribution from tourism.
    6. **Geographical Features:** Kerala's unique geographical features, including its backwaters, beaches, and hill stations, make it a popular tourist destination with a distinct cultural identity.
These factors combine to make Kerala stand out as a distinct and progressive state within India.

I wish I had a chance to answer your question; though I'm not fluent in English while speaking compared to my writing skill.
What should the world know about Kerala right ?
Kerala is special in many ways:
1.Kerala is known as God's own country... It's nature is created with so much beauty and that's why we call our state Kerala God's own country.
    2. Kerala is a multi cultural state mainly with three different religions namely Hindu, Christian and Islam. Whole of Kerala celebrates almost all festivals of those religions predominant.
It will be surprising for you to know that Kerala got Christianity even before many of the European and other western countries. For, Christianity was brought here by 50-52 AD (CE) by St. Thomas the apostle himself. You can google the first Churche in Kerala as well as the 7 Churches ( communities ) constituted by St. Thomas. This is trustworthy because it's all the more surprising that there were Jews in kerala even before Christ in the era of BC (BCE).
Another surprisig fact is that the first mosque in kerala was built in 629 AD (CE) at the time almost Islam was preached by Nabi Muhammad.
So both Christianity and islam came to kerala during the period it was constituted perhaps within 30 years that too by the original prechers of the faith.
And last but not least the mythology of the origin of the land of Kerala is related to Hindu religious myth.
Kerala has its own art forms like kathakali - which uses the facial muscles and eyes and eyebrows and hands to convey the story which it tells. And also dance forms like mohiniyattam, and satirical dance form of ottanthullal, and also chakiar kooth, chavittu nadakam ( a Christian drama form) , oppana a Muslim dance form usually performed at girls home at the eve of her wedding, margam kali which is usually performed at the eve of Chrisitan weddings ( now it's less in practice though it's a contest event ) and thiruvathira of Hindu festal dance form. There are a lot of other dance forms as well unique to kerala.
And the mother of all martial arts in the whole world is said to be kerala's kalarippayattu. Please watxh shows of Hindi actor Vidyut Jamwal for more information.
And Kerala movie actors are one of its legends like Mohanlal and Mammootty. one has his body flexibility to take any role be it a martial artist or a dancer or a singer or a carpenter his body has its language. Where and Mammootty has a different slang and even voice for each character and is evergreen even in his seventies right now. And many legendary movie actors from drama background.
Among singers K J Yesudas and K S. chithra are one of the bests in India.
Kerala is a place where people live and cultivate below sea level in kuttanadu near Alappuzha which is the land of backwaters and all the way from South to north which has seashore and beaches. Kerala has land below from sea-level to highranges spot like Munnar 5600 ft above sea-level (1600 metres) which has tea estates and fog.
These are some of my answers to your question. Thank you... God bless you...

Thinking of India as one culture is one of the biggest mistake you can make. It is one of the most diverse place in every way. Each state have different culture, traditions, rituals, food , festivals etc. Sometimes these things vary even inside a state. Also, there are lot of stereotypes about India outside the country. Even though these stereotypes hold true for small section of country, they can't be used to define India as a country because there are lot of places in India where it is exact opposite.( You may have realised this fact by your visit to Kerala). One thing I love about Kerala is it's people. Most of the people here are kind, caring and go out of their way to help others. I love travelling alone in Kerala because I just have to say hi and I would get a good friend for the journey. I won't say everyone are like this in Kerala but most are.

Kerala's historical significance and trade route influences have played a crucial role in differentiating it from other states of India in several ways:
    1. **Maritime Trade:** Kerala's strategic location along the Arabian Sea made it a hub for maritime trade since ancient times. It had flourishing trade links with the Middle East, Europe, and East Asia. This exposure to diverse cultures and goods influenced Kerala's society, economy, and culture, setting it apart from other states.
    2. **Spice Trade:** Kerala was renowned for its spices such as pepper, cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves. The spice trade, particularly during the ancient and medieval periods, brought considerable wealth to the region and attracted traders from various parts of the world. This trade prominence contributed to Kerala's economic prosperity and cultural richness.
    3. **Colonial Influence:** Kerala's history includes periods of colonization by European powers, including the Portuguese, Dutch, and British. These colonial influences left a lasting impact on Kerala's social, cultural, and architectural landscape, distinct from other states that did not experience the same degree of European colonization.
    4. **Cultural Exchange:** The trade routes connecting Kerala to different parts of the world facilitated extensive cultural exchange. Kerala absorbed influences from Arab, Chinese, European, and other cultures, resulting in a unique blend of traditions, languages, cuisine, and art forms. This cultural diversity distinguishes Kerala's heritage from that of other Indian states.
    5. **Historical Events:** Kerala witnessed significant historical events such as the arrival of St. Thomas the Apostle, the spread of Islam, and the emergence of various kingdoms and dynasties like the Cheras, Cholas, and Zamorins. These events shaped Kerala's identity, governance structures, and societal norms, contributing to its distinctiveness within India.
Overall, Kerala's historical significance and trade route influences have contributed to its unique cultural, economic, and social characteristics, setting it apart from other states in India.

I'd say that not enough people realize just how far Kerala has come from what and where we were as a society in a relatively short time in history. Even many Keralites themselves don't know that.
Today, Kerala has high human development index on par with some of the best in the world and the most religiously tolerant, inclusive and politically progressive community in India. But in the past, not too long ago, there was a very well known was Indian Hindu monk and philospher, who described Kerala as Mental asylum, because of how brutal the place was because archaic caste atrocities along with a horrendous feudal system. Kerala had long history of trade, even with the Roman empire and used to have ports bustling with traders from all parts of the word, but that trade also involved trade of slaves as well. During independence Kerala had one of the highest poverty rate in India.
That was what we had as a society when we began working toward progress and within such a relatively short time, we have come leaps and bounds, so far ahead, by the works of many, social reformers, economical and political reformers, who began working from ensuring universal access to basic education as the foundation.
Maybe its because of some kind of subconsious awareness from ancestors who had seen or heard how the worst end could be, we as a society now have a somewhat ingrained egalitarian outlook and so passionately reject rhetorics of discrimination. Atleast till now.

🙂🙂🙂 About Kerala, it is a place with less of a prehistoric background, and we haven't experienced many invasions or conflicts over history. As a Keralite, I am proud that we are happy to accept and receive culture from other states and countries. Food, art, music-everything finds a place here. We embrace influences from other states. Despite being small, Kerala boasts mountains, backwaters, and beaches. The literacy level is far better compared to other states, and the state exhibits a good level of religious tolerance. We enjoy taste from all cultures, and the combination of "porotta-beef" is widely accepted. It is a conservative society, but both the older and Gen Z generations hold progressive views on many issues...
