Pure gold. A work of genius by the incredible Mike Oldfield and God bless Maggie Reilly for her wonderful vocals.

The album this came from, Crises, contains one of my favourite long form Mike Oldfield tracks. Lots of part changes and a brilliant middle section with synths and drums. The collaboration with Jon Anderson from Yes “In High Places” is also on this album. Later to be sampled by Kanye West.

The biggest selling song in Europe for 1983, never heard this version & no idea why it is so long compared to the single version as it is just repeating verses.

Yeah, I didn't know about this version.

You’re not mad! So far anyway! This version has a completely different last verse, lyrically and musically. That guitar is gorgeous, the production, the mix, the dreamy place it takes you.

This is not an original version. Is a fan made extended version of the original extended version of the track. Basically on the 80s it was very normal to release a single on a 12 inch vinyl just to make more sales, and that means than the artist needs to extend the track becouse the vinyl was more big. But in this case, the fan just take that extended version from the original release and extended a little bit more repeating some parts

For some strange reason some idiot added that extra C#m intro 6 times or so when doing this remix - it should only be "twice" ( slightly varied) leading up to the main intro in E ( parallel chords: Am vs. C with capo on 4th fret ) as in the normal extended version.

Not the realeased version, nice although. I wish you'll listen to Crises the title track of thé album.

I’ve always liked this song. Interesting how extended this version is. Not really necessary but it’s just a very good pop song. Way above average.

Love it when you go off-track, Tre. Great stuff from the fertile brain of Mike Oldfield. Suggest 2 completely different tunes: Five Miles Out and Family Man by him. That will cleanse your palate!

    Extended version? lol great song.

Yes, but there is a much better extended version that only uses this extra intro part in C#m twice ( slightly varied) to lead up to the normal intro in E, which works much better than this "endless" repetition of this intro theme.
And it also has this extra verse at the end.

That was not at all what I expected. I was expecting something closer to "Tubular Bells". 1983, huh. It's a shame Oldfield's record company didn't do more back then to promote this guitar scorcher as a substitute for fans jonesing for some new Dire Straits. Maggie Reilly has a wonderfully pure singing voice that complements the melody well while giving the song extra heart.

This is the (unfortunate) “maxi-single” version. A version made artificially and unnecessarily long so they could send “maxi single” copies of the song to unsuspecting fans. Ah, the 80’s music companies! What a bunch of bollocks they were!
