WOW, you made my start to tracing and vector-art with Affinity-Design so easy! Thank you, step by step, not to fast, just the way you can get along with... GREAT WORK! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I don’t know too much about affinity and just got this app for my iPad. And I don’t know. I just feel your video is very helpful for me to understand this app and a good habit focusing on a working flow! All the tricks and tips are helpful without any ads or waste time talks! Thank you! I appreciate your video!

Thanks for these Affinity Designer videos, Alex. I bought both Designer and Photo in the last year and know that your tutorials (on everything!) always give me useful insights that I otherwise might not have discovered on my own.

Thank you. I'm new to graphic design and this software program. I appreciate your explanations while you take us through your process. Please- more tutorials!
I want to thank you for answering some essential questions when tracing like using the option key and joining curves ....keep it going your tutorials are very much appreciated as you explain the why, and how to do things from a beginners perspective...
Thank you so much for your positive comment, I'm really happy to know my videos are helpful for you. Often I see other users tackling only the cool and advanced parts of a software, forgetting about the basics. Those are the most important. Cheers
Thank you for creating this content! Went to art school but looking at using new tools such as digital drawing, meaning I need the very basics of the basics. This is the right speed for me to learn.
Great tutorial. Just like learning to play guitar, it's best for a beginner to go slow and develop technique. Once you have the basic technique it's feels right to go quickly. As this is a tutorial for beginners it's most appropriate to do it at this speed. I really enjoy your comments as you draw, I'm not at all bored or wishing you'd go faster. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Alessandro! This was exactly what I needed! Your thorough approach was much appreciated! We have the same tablet so this helped me believe I could do it! I've got the outline of my drawing done, and I'm off to search for your next video!
Thank you for such a comprehensive tutorial, and for explaining things. I'm new to Affinity, but I've been using Photoshop for years, and have worked in MX Freehand a lot (haha, I know, that's like a lifetime ago). Your video illustrated Affinity's similarities and differences really well for tracing an object, and I'm definitely going to watch the rest of the series as well.
I just found your tutorial and thank you. It was amazing to learn everything. You are an excellent teacher and share everything which really helps the beginner when trying to learn.
Alessandro, your tutorials are precise and very well explained. I usually have a problem with accents (I am from New Jersey in the US) but you speak English very well. I am new to Affinity Designer and believe me, your help is very much appreciated as is the insight to the techniques you use. Good work!
Oh wow, thank you so much for this beautiful comment, I'm really glad my accent is not a problem, I'm trying to improve my English at every video. I've been to New York recently and quickly passed through New Jersey, stunning place!
I'm slowly switching to affinity apps from the Adobe ones myself... First designer and photo and just recently switched to publisher as well.. been enjoying it so far
Hi alessandro, first let me tell you you are an awesome artist, I really like your work. And second, this might be a long shot but, do you design logos? Im in desperate need of a good designer.

Very good tutorial. You covered the thought process and options of the topic... not too many of these tutorials include this well covered subject. I liked and subscribed.
Thank you for this amazing tutorial! As practice I am using my daughter's drawings and I have seen to come to an issue. My daughter's drawing has a panda with a headband on it and to trace the headband so I can use a different color, I went over the same tracing line as the head. Is there any way to use the same line but have it on a different layer? I hope I am explaining this right.
If I understood properly, you could duplicate that line to another layer and only edit what you need and keeping the overlapping part identical. I don't think there's a way to use a line from another layer in a new layer. I might be wrong, tho
I'm confused about the cutting and pasting. When I try to cut out the character from the background, I only end up cropped the character out, and I can't follow how to then place the character on a new layer.
Hey Alessandro! My name is Geena I am a total new comer into this kind of art business or area, and I really love your tutorials, I saw 2 and 1?2 so far :D but I think they are very great!! Keep going like that. I you want to make it easier for those whom are completly new, try explain shortly and very simply and easily some of the graphic terms you use or technology?computer terms you use. I'm learing it kind of by own hand from the beginning and for people like me it will make it much easier and fun to follow up with your tutorials when you explain terms you use that are not that commonly used in comon day life as png, other programs you use or refer to, etc. And just to say I love your accent :D where are you from by the way? Hi Alessandro, great tutorial but background music is very distracting. You’ve clearly a lot of design experience to pass on to us which is very much appreciated. Geoff
Doesn't Designer have an automatic trace feature like Inkscape? (Trace Bitmap) I purchased Affinity Photo for my raster graphics needs and am new to vector graphics and how to not think in layers as much. The logical choice for consistency with Photo is Designer. Being able to automatically trace an image allows me to focus on the program and learn the features and develop my skills so that I can trace as good as many people who have been doing it got years. Currently it's frustrating to try and trace and very slow.
How do you free draw on Affinity without those curves and vectors ??? Like simulating that you are drawing a simple cartoon with a pencil/ Which tool do that?
why do my lines come out as pixelated lines it looks really ugly ...any help on how to get rid of that ? its not smooth its like in pixel form which is weird .
I know this is a little old but I had question. I am just getting into trying out some digital art. If you do have a Wacom Intuos, would you use the pen/tablet the whole time? Or just for the pencil tool?
It's a personal choice, it doesn't really exist a right or wrong approach. I prefer to use the pen only when I don't have to do precise things, or moving vertex around by few pixels. I know designers that use only the pen for everything they do. A matter of habit.
I don't think it's old. I'm just trying it for the first time today, freshly downloaded. I think you might not be selecting "pixel persona" up in the upper lefthand corner. There are three "Personas" there, just beneath "File," and when you click on pixel persona, there are different tools on the ultimate left hand menu. Free hand tool is fourth down. For my part, I'm confused about the cut and paste instructions.
12:49 now i know that we need to hold cmd + alt + click in order to get the curve right, not being crazy line. thanks bro
