Near the end of this video you mention another about "faithfully recording the SP1200 in your DAW"...I watched that video previously but can no longer find it. Do you have a link at all?

Yeah, it was taken down due to the barely audible music playing in the background.. so, I've reposted it on Facebook 🙏🏻

Glad I came across this video. SMPTE was used to sync my sp1200 at the recording studios in the early 90's. However the engineer used to set it up and I couldn't remember how. Thanks bro.
P.S. My OG sp1200 looks better than yours. LOL!!

any advantages using smpte vs other sync methods?

Well, there's MIDI clock Sync, but then that can change the 'feel' and the original swing.. but MIDI can Track 'tempo' and changes in Tempo whereas SMPTE can't.. The SP1200 can track its own Tempo Changes in Song-Mode while slaving to SMPTE.. but, there's definitely Pros & Cons to both.. some people prefer it.. there's also some that would argue that SMPTE is tighter than MIDI, which I tend to agree with.. and SMPTE is more 'preserving' of the native feel of the unit.. so, there's not really a wrong or right as such, but knowing additional methods can help some users make the right choice. And ProTools users have the luxury of generating SMPTE projects.. so they can potentially 'sync up' the SP from their projects (I'm not a ProTools user, but I hear that's the case) 👍🏼

@@tonelabqt Thanks for the reply! I might have to try smpte with my sp and mpc60 it seems like a good method if u have drums in sp/60 and want to record live instruments on top. If i understood correctly with smpte i could start recording a guitar for example on bar 16 of a song and the sp will sync to the corresponding segment in the song mode? Im also for retaining the orginial feel of the sequencer in these machines, they are special! Cheers!

@@oussmayo Yeah, you could potentially go directly out of your SP into the 60.. rather than tracking the SMPTE code to a DAW, but either / or should work.. worst case scenario you may have to put a mixer between the 60 and SP SMPTE channel (if the level is too hot or cold etc) but, definitely an experiment for a rainy day 👌🏼 .. either way, I'd be interested to hear how you get along with that.. so feel free to throw back your results 🙏🏻

@@tonelabqt Damn just realised i was pretty unclear with my last msg sorry for that 😅… I meant i need to try syncing the sp or the mpc to daw with smpte not syncing them together, and then record live istruments ontop in daw.

@@oussmayo oh, well that too should work.. just match the frame rate on both, 30 should be the default on the MPC too 😉👌🏼

God damn, I've tried to use SMPTE in this same way with my DAW and MPC60. It just never worked, the start was always all over the place, even with using 4 bars of silence (not ideal anyway). I wish it worked that well, because I'd like to maintain the timing of the 60 which is very unique.

I think the issue, is there was never a pilot tone that comes out of my 60...at least as I remember.
