10:50 spanish speaker here. Zapato is shoe. Zampatodo is kind of a slang word for someone that just eats about anything without thinking or being picky.
I'm guessing the Pinky nickname of "Teeth" is because she's pink like gums, and the Clyde nickname of "Shoe" is because he's the funny one

I've always wanted a video that went in depth with all the bootlegs and clones of Pac-Man now that such a video exists I am very much thankful for this video's existence
I think the bug at Level 7 in Ladybug is a moth, judging by its flapping "wings."

10:45 Zampatodo can be interpreted as "The one who devours everything" since "Zampar" in spanish can mean "Devour", the word for Shoe is "Zapato".

21:45 The thief in Lock 'n' Chase is named Lupin, at least from what I remember. You're also intended to trap the cops inbetween two of the doors, preferably in the bottom left, bottom right, and upper right to score more points.

16:27 That is supposed to be a sword stuck into a skull with its sprite cut in half. If you look at the skull sprites and compare that to the pinkish skull sprite slices in half, it will look similar, not to mention the eye socket shapes too in both sprites.

If anyone's curious, the Japanese version of Lock 'n' Chase, for the DECO Cassette system, makes it clearer that it's a Pac-Man clone, with the officers and the maze looking more like the ghosts and the iconic maze in Pac-Man, among a few other changes.

If competitors were smart, they would have PAINTED the maze completely instead of clearing it ("you're posting ads, being chased by cops!"). Then they could tell a judge, "This isn't a pacman clone! This is based on William Hamilton's 'travelling salesman problem (TSP)' from 1832!" Good luck to Atari winning THAT lawsuit.
Ladybug (23:30 onward) bears a strong resemblance to LadyTut, a game for the Apple II, C64 and other platforms. Walls could turn (self defence, locking in enemies, etc.), and you had a limited number of shots. Enemies were respawned a few seconds after being shot, but long enough to let you get through an area.
The audacity for a company to just knock off Pac-Man and we just know those company names like it was a legit business venture.
I loved the video. I'm sad that Namco have barely lifted a finger celebrating Pac's birthday but I'm glad someone made the effort to create something a little different. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more in the future. Happy birthday Pac-Man! (^.^)
Actually, Namco's been doing a lot. Mainly in terms of collaborations with other companies. Arcade1up, MyArcade, Basic Fun, and Numbskull have all made Pac-Man 40th Anniversary Edition arcade machines. Namco had the "Join the Pac" theme song made. They also released a Pac-Man Tamagotchi. They've actually done the most they've ever done this anniversary.

When ever I think of any Pac-Man close the first game that comes to my mind is Mouse Trap by Exidy one year after Pac-Man in 1981. I love Mouse Trap for my Colecovision and the 2600. Still have it and still playing it.

"ZAMPATODO" does not means "ZAPATO" (shoe). "Zampatodo" is someone that eats all (eats anything).
("Come" means eat. "Zampa" is a spanish vulgarism for "come").
11:19 I think I know that this is, you see arcade owners don't wanna buy new machines, so people make replacement kits for existing machines, so this is probably the galaxian pacman cabinet, explaining why the cabinet is white and why they had to remake the art.
My favorite is the Horrifying Monstrosity. It’s so weird and bizarre!
11:19 This "bootleg" was in the Namco lobby! You can see it in an episode of Game Center CX. So, does that mean it isn't a bootleg? I like to think of it as the prototype artwork, but I am probably wrong.
Also, the most important, most sought-after bootleg is Pac-Man Deluxe, which was mentioned in Joystik Magazine and elsewhere (though not in Ken Uston's book). The main thing about that bootleg was there were eight monsters instead of four. Nobody seems to know where a cabinet or even a PCB might be found.
Could you link me to your source or put any evidence (videos/photos) in the contributor's folder that I linked to in the description? As for the Horrifying Monstrosity (TM), I still think it's a third party art replacement kit. Many creators have expressed interests in the knock-offs of their creations. However, I think that you could be right about it possibly being official. Unfortunately, there's not much information that I've been able to find about it. Thank you for the information!

I ran across Pop Man in Mesa, Arizona in a submarine shop (this was befiore Subway) that had a different cabinet type, it had a vertical screen, scoring was 20 and 80 points, did not see what the fruit was worth or eating a ghost was. Two escape tunnels, otherwise it may have played like the original

About that galaxien version of Pac man. There's a version of donky Kong that runs on the galagia hardware named Kong. It even has the scrolling space background lol. It's cool to see. Since arcade games are usually one thing. Unlike consoles and pcs which developers could make many games for one piece of hardware.
There were 2 direct arcade clones directly to the Colecovision, Lady Bug by Universal, and Mouse Trap by Exidy.
Lock and Chase was on the Intellivision.
The Bally Astrocade version was Midway's plan for the official hone port

BUT INDEED!! loved the video, loved the letter at the end. Holy shick! Pole Position was a game I had some funny times playing, especially when I started recording myself playing with added music and commentary recorded on vhs cassette tapes. very unorthodox my beginnings were. Still ate, hence the inception and Commissioning of Battleship RadioTV.
But my gosh, I look forward to more videos from you good sir. Very good work. It Actually was helpful in aiding me discovering more story ideas as I flesh out these characters.

I've always been confused also what some of the enemy insects in Lady Bug are supposed to be, especially stage 7. I thought you were finally going to tell me what they are but then I see that you're just as confused about that one as I am. The only thing I can think it might be is a moth of some kind. When it's in the "standing up" position, it does kind of resemble wings.

Great video your voice is great to listen to and editing is nice and simple if you ever do another video I suggest doing more drawing/animation videos because you eddsworld video was really great.
There’s a clone I ran across as a kid called ‘Piranha’, with an open maze & squid monsters. Super difficult, but super fun & unique looking. Made by GL in 1981. Look into it if you ever make that part 2!

There was one I heard of once called Mazeman. it had a frog runnimg around avoiding ghosts that had jowls or something. when they caught the frog, they looked like they were chewing him. I'm trying to find footage of that one.
I actually know what your talking about. I have some pictures of the cabinet. I'm assuming that it just has the original Pac-Man or some similar variant like Hangly-Man. If you do find some footage, please put it in the contributors' folder. The link for it is in the description.

The names of the ghosts are all Spanish, and they refer actually to "Tragón" , including "Zampatodo" (which you mistranslated as "Zapato" aka "Shoe") Zampatodo can be translated roughtly as "Guzzler" too

Well, doing this project on my own for the most part is gonna take me quite a while. Especially since making videos is not a source of income for me. Rest assured that the full version is still in progress, however external factors in my personal life cause production to slow down.

Honestly, I don't know. I haven't given up on it, nor do I have plans to. The main problem is the lack of time to work on this project. Also, more information about a lot of the bootlegs are continually coming out. Rest assured, I'm still working on it, and I hope that it'll be worth it!

Fortunately, no. Unfortunately, life has given less time to work on this video, so my progress has slowed down significantly. The full video will be released, however I can't pinpoint a date.

Color erros & clyde & blinky shit name error but with inky and pinky i bet they are blue becuse pacman eat the power pellet and blinky and clyde ( becuse some pacman merch in the 80s clyde was yellow and not orange so the yellow ghost is clyde in spain art idk the spain could put kinky and that will be fucked up)
