    This is an actual 4-wheel drift. No countersteer, no speed lost in recovery after a corner. The "perfect drift." The amazing accelerator control this guy has is on another level.

    • @fujineetomori
      @fujineetomori 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      with a drift you have to countersteer through the duration of the corner, what he's doing here is oversteering without countersteer so it's not a "drift"

    • @caneryasar
      @caneryasar 3 ปีที่แล้ว +77

      @@fujineetomori As long as the car slides away "controllably" from it's supposed line, it's called drifting. You don't necessarily need to countersteer the oversteering car to call it drifting. What the guy said is right. if you are doing an 4 wheel drift, all wheels slide so you are not controlling the car with front tires but controlling it with upsetting the car's weight balance so the complete package of tires could slide. And also in 4 wheel drifting, car oversteers and understeers at the same time. Just fyi

    • @fujineetomori
      @fujineetomori 3 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@caneryasar that's why in initial d they called it "in-between drift and grip," what takumi does is 4 wheel drifting as he slides all four tires (also simutaneously understeer and oversteer) before the corner but still countersteering, but there's no proper term used for god arm's style of cornering hence "between drift and grip" as he's simutaneously understeering and oversteering into the corner but not countersteering

      For those who are interested in attempting this, here's a few tips:
      1.Keep the engine at peak performance, as in keep the power output consistently high during the turn, or else you won't have enough power to keep going.
      2.Do NOT reach the redline, or else you'll under.
      3.Initiating a small slide (the angle shouldn't be over 30) at the beginning of the corner will help.

    It's amazing how you always manage to capture the style of each character realistically (when taking into account that the car reactions in Initial D were exaggerated for effect). You drive so smoothly here too, the car doesn't buck or slide, just oes exactly where you want, even in quick transitions.

    In real life, this driving style is very similar to Michael Schumacher's and Max Verstappen's driving, by using the ideal racing line turning into a late apex on each corner, while using the weight transfer to rotate the car at the entry of the corner, and exit of the corner with a straighter line to add more throttle and doing some microcorrections

    • @SamuRacing
      @SamuRacing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Initial D called it "zero-counter" which basically means minimum countersteer since some is still required to keep the car balanced, and in the real racing world drivers often refer to it as just "rotation" which can have various angles, so I simply call it "zero-counter rotation" or "zero-counter". Some track guys use the term "zero-counter" as well. It basically can be seen as the ideal drift or a high speed drift.

    Sometimes I can feel like I'm being the most useless being in touge racing, I've been training with a S2000 on the Assetto Corsa for 3 years, it doesn't have any advanced modifications, just extremely specific settings that help me drive the car the way I want. Since that time I've trained the 4WD with one hand, but until today I've never managed to do the perfection you did in the video. The way you control the steering wheel, accelerator and brake, and how you make the car obey your will with such mastery makes me shiver. Yes, with practice comes perfection, but when a person is really born to do something, not even practice will overcome him. This is your gift, being incredibly perfect in touges, I'm afraid of you and your incredible ability, congratulations on your so refined skill, I will always remember you, when I am on the Assetto Corsa touges with my S2000 again, I will remember you. Thanks for being my inspiration.

    Vegetable is muddafreaking true Initial D Fan!!! MY favourite turn is from 3:00 to 3:35. Damn imagine if you can consistently do it in every corner in a real race just like Stephen Curry shooting 3s lol, u'll achieve inhuman Initial D precision. Oh you know what I think that is possible to do in the near future once they completed self driving cars & then you modified that into AI do consistently do in between drift at every corner.

    I loathe myself for taking so long in realising the 'inbetween' grip and drift in both the anime and this video was actually refering to slip angle where the tyres perform their best with just a little loss of grip on the rear balancing that knifes edge between cornering grip and acceleration grip

    I know that this vid is pretty old now but what a great driving right there!!! Also, I kinda do this thing too on Gran Turismo 7 using my sileighty on Tokyo expressway with two lanes. Every time I approach a long corners, I shift my vehicle's weight balance to the other side, slamming my brakes for a bit and controlling the throttle precisely so that I'd be able to do a lil slide on them and it was really fun tho it's pretty challenging (for my level). Same goes to my R35 GTR as well, but I mostly rely on slamming the brakes in a very quick way so that I'd be able to slide it to those corners without relying on handbrakes then controlling its heavyweight so that I wouldn't lose my balance and to be able to tackle those corners very well tho it's not a very ideal technique especially if you're doing a full blown time attack record or endurance racing but it's also fun to test your skills as well as a driver!!
