    Best thing in the Chevy lineup right now. I think I will let someone else eat the depreciation and get one in a year or 2.

    Spray in bed liner should be standard . Your buying the truck to use the bed and it costs gm almost nothing . Dump some stupid electric gadget .

    • @Tro1086
      @Tro1086 9 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Amen brother, this day and age, some sort of bed liner/protector needs to fucking be standard, ridiculous that its an "option". I think tacoma has had bed liner standard since at least 05, not sure what nissan does, come on GM, Ford, Dodge, get your fucking shit together. Bed liner in a truck is a must, not a fucking option, stop milking us for every little option.

      @jaxes88 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agreed, it sickens me how soft GM pickups are getting, note the lack of skid plates (that wimpy little thing on underneath the radiator and the steering mechanism is pretty pathetic), the fact that the bed liner is an option, and how he talked about the z71 offroad model being the high end expensive one. If they're more concerned about putting in a backup camera as standard equipment than maybe they should just stick with cars.

      thing is, they drop a 200 dollar camera which costs you 500, for a bed liner that costs 300, but you get charged 800.......cheaper to buy it yourself. I had a plastic one in my 05 till last year when I dumped 350 to get it lined...

    I can't wait to see a MAXED OUT towing test up the Ike!!! Your load had better be the full 7,000lbs...or else. :) I'd also like to see the 4 cylinder towing its max load, just for the fun of it!

    Just saw this a year late, but it makes me glad I went with the Tacoma. Those wheel well liners look like they'll rip apart in a month. I really, really wanted a a mid size with a diesel, but the price tag on the Colorado with the Duramax and the required crew cab and LT is ridiculous. My 2016 Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4 was $33k, a comparable Chevrolet should be less considering it's a GM.

    Is it easier to fix the transmission shudder problem when the vehicle is up on it's side like this? Or to take the key out of the ignition? Or to replace the leaf springs since they make noise?

      Almost every truck for the last 15 years has been box frame. C channel is definitely not the norm these days. Box frames are more rigid but use thinner steel so they are prone to rot

    I've got an old Frontier right now. I want to replace it in the next few years, but I really want a diesel. I just don't understand why all the major manufacturers sell these same trucks in other countries with a diesel option, but won't bring them here.
    That Chevy is a good looking truck, it'll be interesting to see how/if Toyota and Nissan respond.

    • @NOLAItsNotOva
      @NOLAItsNotOva 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mainly its the oil companies. They want people to buy regular gas, not diesel, as anyone can make it. However, they are starting to be more lenient with diesels now. We are starting to get them with regular trucks. Toyota has had a diesel available for quite some time, but they never brought it here. Would really increase their sales. We can only hope they release some goodies for the next gen Tacoma since its been the king for years

    I bought the 2015 Chevy Colorado in white. It is the 2.5 L4 ext cab model. I have had it 6 weeks so far and it's great, love the perks that were included in the base. Power everything, rear view camera, lots of little storage compartments ( that some lock on valet mode) , The wifi feature is really nice for me considering I live in Canada and never had an option driving down to America to use my phone without getting crazy bills from AT &T. The Navigation system is kind of a let down. You cant just punch in your own address , you have to use the Onstar system talk to them and they look it up and send the info to the truck.
    The mileage is indeed what has been promised I am currently doing 9.3 Litres per 100km ( i'm Canadian ). My brother in law got a new Dodge Ram for over 40k and it didn't even include a basic hitch, the Colorado does just need the ball. 3500 lbs towing. Weakest engine of the brand but still has a lot of noticeable power passing cars with ease on the highway. I noticed looking at reviews the American versions display is different the the Canadian similar but looks like it has a few more options. Thats to be expected it's always that way from Cars to Apple tv. So overall Great truck good options , quiet , decent power and the best on gas by far. Doesn't hurt that it looks like a 2020 model compared to the competition either.
    If anyone else has knowledge about this vehicle the only question i have is, there is a slot on the left of the steering wheel on the actual console that looks like it would fit some kind of a credit card sized card. I have looked in the manual, and have not been able to figure it out. Its not a part of the heating system.

I wish it was an option & not forced on people where you could save that much more $$ in lieu of it. Or at least delete the back up cam feature & add the 7 speaker Bose w/ the center channel.

    Thanks TFL for asking the tough questions. Seriously whats with these massive trucks that have the approach, departure and break over angles of a VW Golf? like really. That front under bumper skirt should not be on any truck capable of offroading. I ripped mine in two spots in a 2009 GMC Canyon and I was always mindful of it when I was ever off road. This has just gotten a lot worse and down into another level! Seriously GM, keep those off road angles in mind for these type of vehicles. And that electric power steering looks like a recall waiting to happen just dangling down there. Jesus!

    • @jjames4401
      @jjames4401 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ...or have an easy-on / easy-off keyed quick release front fender skirt where you'd only need the simple key to remove it. I say keyed so fuckwit thieves couldn't easily steal it since it would be "quick release".

    • @680ecks
      @680ecks 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dave Twardy doesnt matter I don't fit. Ha,ha . I've got the shortest f150 ,reg cab ,Xlt ,v64x4 .It about a year old now and I'm very happy with it . Getting 19-20 mpg and it's got 300 hp pulls trailer good and th cab is very roomy . It's not a race car but seems to handle well and the ride is good and quiet. I drive big trucks so the size only bothers me when my driveway is full of stuff and I don't have enough room. Can't find any fault with it in a year very glad I got it . Cost 30 k ,more than I wanted to spend already, so I would not have payed more for the smaller truck where you have to pay more for the v6 and the nicer features in the equivalent to the Xlt package.

    Does this man know anything about what 4x4 truck owners are interested in. Like. Reliability, longevity, suspension strength,esp. the front on independent control arm suspension. and a strong frame.
    The Colorado shown, has steel front lower control arms. But everyone I've seen has aluminum lower control arms, which are more V shaped than A shaped. There is no middle brace in the arm, there just like the full sized GM's. They state they are 10% stiffer than the old models iron arms. But aluminum fatigues faster, and If you hit a bump to hard, or a rock hits the aluminum control arm itself, It's apt to crack the aluminum arm. Making it dangerous or impossible to drive until the arm is replaced. Whereas steel control arms don't fatigue. If you hit something to hard, they might! bend, but you would be safe to drive home. I've researched vehicle suspension for over 25yrs, and I wouldn't have a truck or car with aluminum suspension. Notice how the expert, skipped over the front suspension. I've had two Toyota Tacoma's, one of which I jumped several times, hard enough that the bed hit, and dented the back of the cab. But not one suspension problem. My current 08 Nissan Frontier has a FULLY BOXED FRAME, and strong steel front A arm suspension.
    I say, cut weight other places, or use lighter high tensile steel for the suspension. It's to vital of a part to be weakened, for the sake of saving weight, or maybe getting slightly better handling, of which really only makes a difference on sports cars.

  • @allen_p

    I've had my 2015 Colorado WT Extracab, 3.6 L for a year now. I ended up ordering mine from the factory as I wanted the V6, trailer towing package, and by buying the Work Truck version I saved a couple thousand. I didn't want all the bells and whistles; just a good truck to tow a trailer and haul stuff. It pulls a trailer great. Engine. power train, and suspension are great. Interior is cheap and stereo is absolutely horrible when it works, paint job is questionable as mine came with three 1 inch spots of missing clear coat.
    As an extra-cab I use the area behind the front seat as storage, but I wish the seats could fold up or be removed to have floor space of an ice chest, dogs, etc. Chevy really needs to improve the interior.

    so let me get this straight, you put the electric power steering control box on the bottom of the vehicle.on that power steering control box, you have 3 or 4 cables that plug-in. How much sense does it make to put something that important down where the rain, salt, and sand can get to it? Not to mention if someone takes this offroading and they come down a little hard on a rock, there goes your power steering.

    Want to point out to all the "Tacoma will last longer and it cheaper..."-- I am driving a 1996 Toyota 4Runner which is identical to the 4th Gen (legendary reputable for reliability) Tacoma and previous T-100. I'm all for Toyota and their vehicles from the pre-2005 era. im at 190k miles, and its been supercharged and offroaded plenty in its lifetime. Not much has broken, but a fair amount has. Knock sensors, O2 sensors, clutch replacement, etc. But it runs and runs well still. The NEWER tacoma (yr. 2005+) Has a lot more issues and doesn't carry that reputation well. I watched this video because I could take a look at the underbody. Some SERIOUS key features why I want this over a new TRD Pro tacoma: New 300~ HP engine (v6), Total Box frame, which is important for offroaders that need to modify and/or replace chassis sections and install rollcages. better EPA. Better/new transmission. Cleaner and better designed stock exhaust. Transmission is above chassis cross arm, protected from skid/apex point for offroad clearance. Straight one-piece driveshaft. Good disc brakes from the factory (instead of requiring a Tundra swap in for performance). Easy to access bumpers for removal. Better interior. More logical charging/ports design. Better tie-down options in the back. Cheaper price for a fully loaded Z71 4WD Off-Road Crew Cab than a TRD Pro/ 4WD TRD Package Crew Caw Tacoma. (34.5k vs. 38.7k). Please do your research on both trucks. This truck is a lot better than the current Tacoma in nearly all aspects, and until Toyota releases their Diesel offering for better Torque and fuel economy, this is a for-sure winner. Also, its nice that the seats in this crew-cab are mostly leatherette, vs. the Tacoma's half-leatherette, mostly gray cloth mesh offering.

    • @chrisk6167
      @chrisk6167 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      oh, and it tows 7100 lbs. You will NOT get that with any other trucks in its segment, and is comparable to the performance of many full-size trucks that are loaded with more expensive powerplants, which nullifies the "its so expensive, might as well buy a full-size". Can't compare a fully-loaded mid-size that pulls 7100 lbs. at $34.5k to an F-150 or Silverado with an opted in V8 that immediately sells for 40k+ WITHOUT options tacked on yet to tow relatively comparable numbers. (or a nice EcoTech/Ecoboost V6 which will also run you just as much)

    • @markshul03
      @markshul03 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      guy proulx Chevrolets are very reliable so I don't know where you get that feeling from. If I were going to buy a full sized pickup it would be a chevrolet. And sure it may not be as good off road as a TRD but it doesn't have the options and Chevy realized that when they released the ZR2 concept. Which if it were to be built would be the most capable of any midsize truck.
      And I really don't care if it got a lower score, because it still has to be very safe to be released. And most people don't buy a truck for its crash rating.
      I love toyota and I drive one everyday, but I'm not going to fanboy and bash everything else even when as of now the Colorado is the best midsize on the market whether you admit it or not. When the new tacoma comes out and I decide to buy a new truck, I would drive them both and buy which one I like best regardless of brand.

    Fuel economy is dog shit. FULL SIZE Dodge Ram 1500 v6 is rated at 25 mpg highway...... The 4 cylinder in the Colorado is rated at 27 mpg highway..... One of the biggest reasons to get a small truck is for the fuel economy. Chevy should have been able to hit 30 with this truck.

      Tro1086 Small is kind of a misnomer the things is pretty big, compare this to the old S10's man its a whale. I wouldnt pay 39K for a fully loaded one but i can see the intrigue considering your upwards of 50k for a silverado comparably equiped. If it was 30k fully loaded this thing would sell like hotcakes.

    • @larryspiller15
      @larryspiller15 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tro1086 buddy were not talking about the past prices because those aren't coming back lol. You can't just compare it to prices that are no longer relevant. I would say ideally it should be 35k for everything but we shouldn't forget that gm has put a lot of resources into these two trucks but at the same time they wouldn't want to excessively cannibalize there silverado/Sierra market

    • @ChuckBeefOG

      Anyone that actually pays the sticker price on the window is completely and totally, mentally disabled. And Tro, it's because of inflation of the economy, everything costs more now, from labour workers to utilities to materials and transportation. In turn, all of these factors result in a higher price passed on to us, the consumer. 40k in 2002 had the same purchasing power as 53k today. But most certainly your wages have risen in that time to reflect the inflation of the dollar.

      ***** The 3.5 may have more power and better economy, but I can guarantee that 4.0 was a better truck motor with more low-end torque and better drivability and towing ability. I wasn't that into them before, but now I want one even less!

    • @MrChevypower
      @MrChevypower 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** It's true that Atkinson cycle is more efficient, but it does have reduced torque. On top of that, you lose torque by reducing displacement, especially if its reduced piston stroke. Atkinson engines are often used in hybrids, which is ok given that electric motors make up for that torque deficit. If you want fuel efficiency in a truck and still get some level of performance, you really need to go with a diesel or hybrid (or a diesel hybrid). But then that always comes with a price premium.

Personally I have the i5 2006 colorado which decent amount of power at 280 horse and i believe 240 horse but kinda struggles to tow don't get me wrong the i5 is a great motor and has its mileage dues you have to pay and as far as rest of design of the truck you can tell for even being a LT its a "shop" truck. However, feel as if chevy has learned from their mistakes. Buttttt ford does need to bring the ranger back!

I'll admit the V6 S-10 is a gas hog but all the times I drove the 4 cylinder S-10 I couldn't wait to get the hell out of it as it had terrible torque/pickup. I used to joke how one day I was going to get so fed up w/ its lack of power that I was going to pour a gallon of gas on it after parking it in an open field after it rained, flick a wood match from as far back as I could, then turn around and walk off into the sunset and forget the pos ever existed!

      Dale Couture Really recalls . I mean I know Toyota had some but its a chevy ......... They have a recall every other week. you never have to fix GMC/Chevy ,just wait for the Recall to come out or just go bankrupt either way I'll take a Taco.

      Dale Couture Yea more options to make the vehicle cause even more problems. I don't really need something super fancy on a truck. It's a truck not a Mercedes. And that was funny on how you say the colorado has less problems then a toyota. And how many recalls have Toyota called on the Tacoma beside the sticky pedals. NONE! I see how much GM really does care about their customers after knowing about the ignition problem for over a decade and they finally got on it with a lawsuit to help encourage them.
