In a nutshell, I ‘m an avid dumpster diver, scrapper, picker, treasure hunter and underwater connoisseur. I prowl the city streets in search of dumpster loot, curbside treasures & scrap metal as well as scour the river bottoms for lost valuables during the summer months when I can scrounge up enough money for gas. I used to work for the railroad rebuilding locomotives, our shop was in an industrial area and I met a scrapper like you once, he and his wife scrapped exclusively, that is all they did. He did what you do and she got ALL the cardboard and pallets, They Left nothing in the dumpsters. Every time I saw them they were filthy because they scrapped the industrial waste from the complex I worked in. I met them out once I was eating at a restaurant and this man and just drop dead gorgeous woman came up and were like "Hey Jim!!" How are you/" It took me 20 seconds to place these two looking like movie stars in the old tee shirts and jeans I saw them in most days.

@@sharlinearce2280I used to help a neighbor show cattle at the county fairs. They would wear their barn clothes to whatever the nicest restaurant near the show. They went in and order the most expensive thing on the menu. None of the servers wanted to wait on them. When they were ready they handed their server 100.00. In the 70s that was alot
Mike the Scavenger, one of the only channels that I even watch the long ads all the way through for.
Mike is the most entertaining scrapper. I love how he always has a positive attitude. He works hard and has fun while doing it. I just wish I had a truck so I could go find me some good scrappity scrap.

Thankyou , you make me laugh and cry daily with your humour and philosophy of life. I am not sure if you are aware that the glass round plate that one finds in the microwave is easy to sell as it is likely many users have a broken glass rotating plate and very needy of purchasing a replacement for ten dollars approximately .. Also your respect for the use and saving of old dumpster tools and found books of all varieties is so good to the heart. Your values are so wise and I hope more people will follow your pearls of wisdom concerning never to throw out books or used tools , etc. Recycling is awesome !!!!

my friend who is also a youtube scraper uses a trampoline canvas as a cover for his dump trailer to keep stuff from blowing out going down the highway ..its better than a plastic tarp because air blows through it..

Some of those Andrew cables and connectors could well be useful to the Ham Radio guys, many use those "commercial" / "professional" patch leads and connectors.

If my hubby was a scrapper I would be all up in his truck helping!!!! But my son and I love to “think” about dumpster diving but scared of going to jail lol 😂
Just do a little research on if it's illegal or not in your area. You can also go and talk to the owners of the company/business your diving. Let them know you're saving the environment and making a few bucks while ensuring some items don't go to the landfill. Alot of them won't mind and give you permission. Might make you sign a liability waver.

Hey Mike just watched your video and did a quick search on Ebay and found a Racal recorder like the two you found and it was listed for $2,500.00 Australian dollars so you may be able to get some real cash for those two. Mike, those are real to real recorders, Dad would send us tapes while he was stationed in Vietnam, so we wouldn't forget what he sounded like, I'm quite sure they are collector's item now.

Decades later I was talking to my older brothers about them and they said "Didn't you hear the mortar fire and explosions?" , I said "No, I just heard Daddy's voice". Mike good to see you and another scrapping good time video. When using those 48" LED fluorescent bulbs replacement no ballast is needed and is wired differently.
Save a few of them and make a video on wiring them up.

I couldn't help but think of all the document boxes and the potential of then having old original user manuals and documentation for old computer/mainframe equipment. That stuff sells pretty well. I'd have probably gotten the reels too. Label them as unknown content, undercut the ori6of other sellers and pure profit.
I wish people would stop throwing books away. There is always somebody who would like to have them. Keep up the good work on books mike.

I'm the same way Mike, I can't believe it when I find old books in the dumpster. I can't believe that people throw them away. I find books, all the time, as early as the 1910s in a dumpster behind a certain thrift store. I save what I can when I come across them

Last racal reel recorder sold for 1200 plus shipping on ebay. Also those reels that were in there with it if they are emi or racal even used they get around 50 for 3 on the bay

Man that heliax cable is EXPENSIVE. I use lots of it for radio systems. Some of those connectors are $50-$100 each. Let alone the cable.i’d be interested in some of those cables.

Insane find with those racal reel to reels. One is posted on ebay for 2K with the same stuff you have. You can definitely get some nice profit off of those
think the tapes would have been worth picking too honestly. maybe not his deal but those would sell in facebook, vintage audio groups or ebay

You are so right about people who throw out boots. It is disgusting how are tossed out. Bookstores are one of the biggest offenders. Dang, if you don't want them at the least you could do is donate them. Libraries, schools, retirement homes....
And yeah, Jelly Roll is great. His lyrics are sometimes brutally honest for some. Like song in the song, I only pray.

I gotta tell ya Mike, I sure missed ya. And the books, throwing them in the dumpster is the same as the days when they used to burn them. People were up in arms about that, now they just throw them away and think that’s better. DUH 🙄 🙏♥️🇨🇦🌈 You should go back and get those reel to reels to go with those recorders then perhaps people might want to buy them.

Wow Mike you have a strong voice to do audio books. Keep the Marilyn Monroe book and on rainy nights read to us a few pages at a time. Maybe your wife would read to us also.

The Cold Shrink Kit is basically a thick Rubber sleeve that has a stiff plastic liner that is keeping the Rubber sleeve artificially expanded to around twice it's diameter. Pull on the tabs at the end and the inner plastic unwraps itself from the inside (middle) shrinking the Rubber onto whatever it is placed around - normally placed onto one cable before a joint is made then placed across the joint before shrinking - you may have silicon grease or other product inside before enclosure. Good bit of kit, used to use these on Telecoms joints 30 years ago, so they've been around for years!
Yup I’m a cable splicer and used to use them all the time. We used to bring them home and use them on shovel and rake handles.
