- As you get more and more comfortable with your drops, add "baby scratches" otherwise known as fader-less scratching. Don't get stuck executing your cuts one way though. The point of scratching is to enhance the listening experience of the music you're scratching to for your audience so BE EXPRESSIVE!!! Find your own distinct "baby scratch" rhythms. There's a plethora that exist, tap into them... #WeTalkinBoutPractice
what a nice and patient teacher!!!
I've been DJing for over 20 years and a turntablist for exactly 20 (my first battle/turntablist routine). It is incredibly eye opening seeing the realization of these techniques in a fairly new DJ. Makes me recall teaching myself these lessons in solitary through trial and error. You are a treasure for our art and culture @Rob Swift. Thank you so much.
Thank you KMD!!!
Me too! I would have given anything to have him teaching me like this!
Me to, it’s amazing seeing it taught structurally.
Rob swift... Teaching DJing And life lessons all in one 🙏
Rob, you are an incredible teacher. Inspirational yet brutally honest. Always dropping Jewels 💪🏾
I was just about to write the same thing he just has a way to reach you and dig deep in side his students so that they can understand what he is trying to teach them I say that because I feel it when I watch his videos
With that college professor voice 😅
Rob Swift is the best teacher. He breaks things down so well. If I were in NY I would be 100% taking these lessons in person. These people are SUPER lucky to have him.
Thanks Jessica. I appreciate the love!
i love watching all of swifts tutorial videos. he breaks down all the fundamentals in such a way that its methodical and easy to understand. as i have said before he is a great teacher and can articulate his thoughts clearly. wish i could go back in time and have a teacher like this!
These videos are dope!
Why am I getting more out of this than just dj-ing lessons? Confidence is key and Rob Swift is killin it.
Man these are pearls fr
Bless u
Rob Swift
Many props for sharing this and what you're doing, because for many of us this is an amazing and unseen oportunity to learn this art from the mentor we never were able to have. Been involved with HipHop culture for long, mostly breaking and painting but being from a small town I had to learn by myself until I started travelling and meeting other people, never had a great mentor to teach me the right path, the foundations or preventing me from learning wrong. So now I definitely appreciate all the knowledge you are dropping and sharing so other people could learn the right way if they want to get into turntablism and Djing. It's now when I realize how fast and consistent one could learn with the right mentor! This is what this is all about, each one teach one and the internet is giving us a real, creative and positive oportunity when used right. Peace out!
Man its great to see the patience of your teaching. I could hear him get better as he went on.I even learns some stuff from this. Wish i would have had this when i started 30 plus years ago.
Rob Swift thank you man. Teaching the next generation of DJs as well as bringing refreshing concepts to those that have been around awhile.
Man I wish I could get an hour with rob and have him teach me a few things
I'm a perfectionist so I appreciate this message. I can't over think it just go with the flow. 💯
You are a good teacher
Man I’ve been watching these videos, and they’ve made my approach so completely different to my djing, and it’s incredibly different. Thank you for posting these
genius always! and always appreciate the OG TALK. glad hip hop lives forever...
Danm Rob Swift Pure Inspiration
Fantastic teacher ! Thanks
Man, you are an amazing coach! Greetings from Croatia!
I know this is an older video and I don't know if you'll read this - I was deliberating between getting into DJing or purchasing more music production gear - you definitely made my mind, I'm just sad I can't start on vinyl directly...
why not?
I just stumbled across some of your videos and I've got say thank you. Subscription already made.
Right on 💪🏾
Best teacher out there ! And sick with it
Good job man, he was gettn it done.... I gotta get another table, so that I can practice my dj mixing, as well.... Thanx Mr. DJ..... 👍💪🙏😎
I got this, control control, def time to practice my friend. lol :)
I had this problem this past Saturday. I have to control my momentum and scratch with confidence especially with my left.
cool video series rob keep it up bro!
Rob: "Be confident"
Nobody: 9:12 (perfect drop)
I watched him grow very quickly from the beginning to the end but there were times where I would have liked to see him given more time on his passes. Especially on the last one. Watch his left hand he's controlling the record like an experienced scratcher just before he's stopped.
I got that same Roland DAW too
As a drum teacher, I would expect them to practice the 8th and 16th notes with a metronome starting slowly and then gradually raising the bpm, as well as going over a sheet of classic scratch patterns and practicing those with the metronome.
Hm. Lacks the feeling of Hip Hop
How can I sign my son up for a lesson?
Muscle through. Amen.
this is motivating, Salute Robb Swift
Even movements!!!
i think he could have started the scratch with the beat counts like 1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and release....that might work fixing his timing on the scratch.
Great tutorials Sir Rob....
These videos are so good! Question for anyone who is knowledgeable... I want to get a starter controller; Is the DDJ 400's good enough for starting equipment for mixing hip-hop?
What needles & cartridges are you using in the video rob ? I use stanton groovemaster II great sounding but not to good for tracking.
Works for Lucas?
Dope!!! Does anybody know the name of the break, or song? at 16:00
Vuong Ha It’s an Old School HipHop song by Treacherous 3 - Love Rap:
th-cam.com/video/qj0fqi5GWUc/w-d-xo.html
The title of the song is "Impeach the President" its a vintage break beat.
What’s this song called?
Can you teach me @RobSwift
Man I need to take some military leave and link up with Rob to get some lessons
I got soul that's why I came
To teach those who can't say my name.
What record is that you are spinning?
I’m compelled to say Hip Hop code asserts you gotta figure that out on your own.
Rob you think you can teach me how to mix I have Stanton equipment but no music I don't have have serato
instead of just selling a overpriced course
