Goddamn If I had Rob Swift teaching me like this when I was learning how to properly scratch in and drop on the 1, it would have cut my learning time in half. These students are INCREDIBLY fortunate to have him!
DJ Rob Swift knows exactly what he's talking about 100%. For ladies and guys to totally depend on your laptop and software does not really make you push yourself to really show what you can do. You need to be able to bust your mixing RAW. That's how I learned over the years to do my mixing before Hurricane Maria damaged my house in 2017 here in the U.S.Virgin Islands And I loss all of my dj equipments, records,etc.
You are not only the best teacher, but, you drop wisdom on beat without even tryin'... Because it's all science.... Deep shit... All your videos... It's crazy all the life lessons just in the movement and rhythm... It's LIFE!!!

Glad I’ve been teaching myself for the most part correctly on the approach! Even if I set cues, I still backspin instead of hitting a button. That’s just where to start when you setup a mix. Salute!
Am so glad I had a cousin from your era he forced me to use my ears he frown at digital decks and I was born in 1990 learning 2006 , what the student is describing is achieved with repetition .. my TIP is just beat match beat match beat match by ear with vinyl to get the flow , and to see the picture in clarity switch back and forth between digital mixing for 2 days then back on 5he vinyl for 2 and so on .... it will click at somepoint

I had no idea these videos existed until last night. Amazing stuff, Rob. I wish I'd had someone around to explain all of this stuff when I was a kid playing around with turntables back in '89/'90. I'd have sucked a whole lot less. :p
What i have noticed playing small garden parties here and there, the thing that interests and impresses the people when watching the dj the most, is not some scratch jerk off fest, but letting those decks fly and backspin, then catch on point with perfect timing...put the cherry on the cake with a tight juggle pattern and let the beat flow.
I finished watching this, then I want back to my system, put it on absolute mode, dimmed the laptop screen and got to work. I need to get rid of a lot of bad muscle memory. Thank you Rob.

Im new with learning skratching, & all these awesome techniks & skills & stylez, been learning for a few years now, but, without instinct, & heart & soul gettn put into your love of DJing, & skratching, its basically like your Reading a script at a rehearsal or something, cause, without your own personality gettn implemented into your practice, & without your own feelings, & love of what we do, then its simply just a mirroring of DJing, cause you'll never have your own style, & soul into it!! Man I will use this as practice, learning all over again. I consider my self pretty nice with crowd rocking. But tricks and scratches are trash. Wicky wicky is all I got. So I'm learning. You're the living legend, Rob! I respect your work and this YT lessons a lot. I've been listening you and the rest of turntablists at early 2000, but never made a single one scratch. I was a true Hop Hop head, emcee, but never a DJ. A year ago I decided to start with a little controller to DJ a little bit. Now I own a Rane Twelves and Seventy. (After watching your tutorials I regret I didn't bought a real turntables). In past year I have watched a lot of tutorials from other guys, but I have found in yours the true meaning of real shit about music, turntablizm and all that. Thanks man, much respect! One question, how do you use headphones to monitor your transitions, split cue, half mix half cue...? One more time, thanks for everything you share with us, much love!

I started djing like 7 months ago and sadly i started with a ddj r3 the one jazzy jeff made and serato ive been doing music since i was 10 but the computer has fucked me up and and now im learning more just by watching your vids

I can honestly say when I've watched roc raida on VHS I've seen what swift is kinda talking about in this video... I would always kind of focus on the body movement I'll see what he or how he feels for what he's doing... don't know if I make sense but...
I just picked up my first set of tables. Since i dont have much of a record collection i was planning to learn via digital but after watching your videos i want to learn on vinyl so i dont visually depend on the software. Im not very visual so, why teach myself visual cues when i feel i have a keen ear for music.
