you can use your adjustable wrench on the banding too sometimes it is a bit loose and hard to break you slide your adjustable on the banding adjust it till its just snug and slide the claw of your hammer next to it with the banding between the two claws and twist opposite directions.
Out of curiosity... have you seen anyone use pipe in place of those ties to reduce the amount of concrete and to allow for pluming and electrical runs through the wall? my first thought was one inch pipe with a bolt through it and washers on either end....

You'd have less concern about the holes going through perfectly square if you used a jig on your drill. They're a great way to make sure you're perpendicular when you're drilling through something where that really matters, like these forms.
You mentioned that you were going to reuse the plywood for shelving. Did you skip release agent so they wouldn't smell afterwards and if so, how much more difficult did that make it to strip the forms?
Great video Dan! Could you use this system to extend the depth thickness of an existing wall? I have 8 in poured walls that I want to extend an additional 12 in to. Could the Jahn ties be mounted to the existing poured wall?
Hey Dan. Lumber is expensive right now, and I wondered what your opinion would be about using 1/2" plywood, then shortening the span between framed boards? Just curious, really on a budget here.
Definitely not any further than 2ft unless you wanna roll the dice. I do walls for a living and we use old schools simmons panels. But the thing is you would want to introduce some vertical pieces behind the horizontal soldiers. (2x4s) to displace the pressure a little more since you want to space the two bys more. Even using rips would work.
It depends on where you live. White Cap has their "Brigade" brand, searching for a local concrete supply store that has form work, EBAY may have some sellers too.
Check out the instructions for the Jahn system sometime. Step 1, gang drill the plywood. This may be a problem for someone that can't hold a drill square to the plywood but if you limit yourself to 4-6 sheets at a time you should be ok. Very often reinforcing will be in the way and the ties will have to bend slightly to get around it. So, +/- 1/4" or more in hole layout isn't a big deal. As for drilling them one at a time, that sounds like union mentality. Don't work too fast, you will make us all look bad! The real trick to all areas of the construction process it to know where you have to take the time to be very precise and where you are just wasting time.
Give them a hundred years and those metal ties are going to carry rust right through your wall, and speed the rusting of your rebar as well. They're not what you'd use if you want your wall to last.

Typically you use a 9/16 bit so that the Burke plywood plugs fit in the holes if you mispace or reuse the plywood with a different layout
