Wow. What memories that song brings back. Dave Mason is in top form even later in life. Rarely a musician retains their voice in the quality of the great Dave Mason. This was an incredible performance by an incredible musician. Yes Dave....YOU STILL HAVE IT! Thanks for the music over the years.
No one sang this song as good as Kruegs...I knew him when he wrote it, and while people want to add a lot of drama to it...he got over 'her' and loved again. Sadly, he died in 1993 and never became the blues player I so thought he had in him...he loved playing bb king stuff in high school..had a great band 'Grease' at the time. good memories.
Got to see them at the End of Summer/State Line Rally in keosauqua iowa. It was an absolute magical performance! The whole vibe was amazing! Ill never forget it❤
So great. How many current performers could stand there with simply a guitar and sound like that. Even though he is in his 60's now, his voice remains great and so rich. Wonderful.
I grew up in Manitowoc and knew Curt and some of his sibs; sorry, I didn't know he'd passed away. I grad HS in '70. There was a 'coffee house' in Manty where Jim and his band practiced; I used to hang out there. I lived in CA many years - would see Jim when he and Dave would play in the area. agree with you about Dave getting more credit though he's an awesome musician. Jim was a great blues guitar player- wish he'd pursued that. Take care,Jayne Mullins Madison
It is amazing coming from a guitar player myself how he would take his 12 string guitar and tune it to an open Ecore mean like the actual major cord, but open kind of like tuning it like if you were gonna play a Dobrow or a steel guitar like if you were going to use the slide bar on it, but he did a couple of different fingering with a couple of strings and the rest of strings open that is talent right thereI think I’m gonna find an old guitar instead of using my newer ones. I’m gonna find an older one and have them tune it to an open cord where I could try that myself. Good job, Dave.
@readyeddy101 The "bass" you hear is actually the low E string on Dave's guitar- I thought the same thing on first listen. That's just great, consistent technique at work, and a good job by the sound guy letting it be heard. Watch the bass notes follow his finger on the E string, it's not easy to get that out that clear every time.
This song is a staple of my karaoke list when I'm hanging out at the Redstag Lounge in San Jose, CA. I enjoy singing it more than any other song I perform. So if you're in the neighborhood, stop by and request "Ala Mode" sing it for you.
That's my bud Johnne Sambataro in the orange shirt, who sings and plays his ass off and who has a list of recording credits from here to the moon. Was lead singer for Firefall for 7 years, then Dion DiMucci's bandleader and musical director for years before hooking up with Mason.
Really like dave Mason and as usual he id a great job on what I think is his finest tune. I heard a bass guitar playing but didn't see a baasist. I wonder if that was dubbed in. Just an observation.
This is not 'his song' as is says in the description. I can't think of the guy that wrote it, but it wasn't Dave. I still love Dave though, he does it justice absolutely
From when you had to be able to.... Play Sing And write music Even today the music of back in the day sound great. Then there's today's acts a song or two, their career is over From hot to not.
Love Dave, but why is he always performing " We just disagree"? I mean, i love this great song, but he had another great songs that he could play instead..He is easily one of the greatest songwriters. Top
If anyone has forgotten what "talent" is.....watch this video....two guys....two guitars....classic music...'nuff said.....
You said it all and I agree with you.
An underrated legend - still active, creative and performing quality music for generations of fans
I don't know why but this song makes me sad...one of the best songs ever written (RIP Jim Krueger)
I never knew he played this song on a 12-string? Now it all Makes sense. Magic magic magic
This is by far, the best I have heard sound wise "live" from Dave.
@nutflushdrawkoh. Considering that the Video is lo-rez, that's an accomplishment.
Brings back memories for me this song, and I'm sure it does for alot of others
Thanks for sharing!
One the most heartfelt and moving songs ever written! I use lyrics often in marriage counseling.
Voice aging like fine wine.
Wow. What memories that song brings back. Dave Mason is in top form even later in life. Rarely a musician retains their voice in the quality of the great Dave Mason. This was an incredible performance by an incredible musician. Yes Dave....YOU STILL HAVE IT! Thanks for the music over the years.
One of the greatest guitar players alive today. Amazingly, many people are unaware of this man's extrodinary talent, both as a singer and guitarist.
Ovation is still a loved guitar by some of us!
. . . No better chiming - and looking than an Ovation Adamas, 6 or 12 string . A design and sound decades ahead of all else ... s t i l l .

Love the song and how Tom is just enjoying the music where it seems to pull on others heart's strings
Yeah, the look on Bob's face is one of sheer joy
Wow...What a wonderful version of this classic song...Dave still sounds fabulous!
it took me two days to figure this song out, it is so fun to play along with!
This song is awesome as it is timeless.
Solid
Yep, that's how that one goes. What a performance.
Got to see them at the End of Summer/State Line Rally in keosauqua iowa. It was an absolute magical performance! The whole vibe was amazing! Ill never forget it❤

This version is great. What a true professional and artist.
Have never seen him in concert even though I have been a fan since the Traffic days.
i could listen to this all day old men rule
What an awesome and beautiful rendition of the song. Thank God they recorded it for posterity and everyone to enjoy as decades move on. TY for that. 👍

The only thing better than one great guitar is two great guitars!
this is even better than when he was doing the song back in the 70s.

Wow, Dave does a fine job on this cover. Nice to see he is still kicking. As for Elton, He writes the majority of his music. Bernie writes the lyrics.

SMOOOOOOOTH !!!!!!!
@bc1358 I'd have to say his voice is actually getting better with age.
Really like dave Mason and as usual he id a great job on what I think is his finest tune. I heard a bass guitar playing but didn't see a baasist. I wonder if that was dubbed in. Just an observation.
rzombie666 is right the first I said was man his voice is amazing
OOPS. The Eric Powers comment was meant for the Midnight Special version. Eric Powers' son commented that his father toured with Dave Mason.
you couldn't be more right Brian Hill
Great song - one of my favorites. Anyone know what 12 string guitar Dave was playing?
Great
@vincent4442 From what I've read he uses an open E tuning for this.
good music
This is not 'his song' as is says in the description. I can't think of the guy that wrote it, but it wasn't Dave. I still love Dave though, he does it justice absolutely
Ever since Dave opened fire on those other DJ's they always put him behind glass....such a shame!
bob and tom have a studio which is awesome - a controlled environment Dave sounds great
Eric Powers was with Great White in 2002-2003.
Dave mason rocks! Always did, who is the other guitarist?

@bshdad I heard he was from manitowoc wisconsin. or the woman that its about lives there still
Makes the hair stand up on your arms!
Can anyone identify the type of guitar Dave is playing in this video?
Pretty sure that's either an old Aria or Takamine acoustic-electric 12 string
@@Finx5008looks like an Ovation
From when you had to be able to....

Even today the music of back in the day sound great.

Can't believe one of those Bob and Tom dudes didn't check in with a smoker laugh in the middle of it like they always do
Went to see him at the Roxy. He sang one song and left. I think he was plastered

Love Dave, but why is he always performing " We just disagree"? I mean, i love this great song, but he had another great songs that he could play instead..He is easily one of the greatest songwriters. Top
Because of all his tunes, this is the best. But this isn't his song. He didn't write it. It was written by Jim Kreuger. Timeless tune for sure. 😊
Is it just me or does, Tom seem to be just ignoring the performance?
Jim Krueger wrote this song.
Yeah.
But can they dance?
Who under the age of 47 actually know who this is? That's the problem.....
Share, share this video!!!! Don't get much better than this (O:
