I remember the Midnight Special as a kid growing up in the 70’s. It was one of the greatest places to see amazing bands playing live. That and Don Kirshner’s rock concerts were something I looked forward to on the weekends. Love this song. Very beautiful lyrics. Not at all a sappy love song. Very real and genuine.

This is one of my favorite songs ever. But it has nothing to do with the lyrics. This came out when i was 5 years old and i heard it on the radio constantly. It always takes me right back to being a kid again and i love it every time i hear it. I got to see Dave Mason play a small club as a member of the version of Fleetwood Mac that was touring around '93/'94.

This song also reminds me of my childhood, but watching this video again is like hearing it for the first time and understanding the lyrics. Although, I couldn't tell you who Dave Mason was until a month ago. Lol

    So Let's leave it alone
'cause we can't see eye to eye there ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy
there's just you and me and we just disagree.
Amazing lyrics... Makes you think about where you've been in life and where you are headed.
Its just how life goes sometimes.
    We've grown up differently...
Happy Tuesday... thank you for sharing! 💖

I disagree that there ain't no bad guy. The bad guy is the Bad Boy that she left him for....lol! The dude in the song is trying to make sense of what happened. He thought he'd found his ONE & ONLY, but to her it was just a temporary thing or fling until she could find someone better or more exciting! Men are so dumb with women. They're like little lovelorn puppies...lol!

I met Dave Mason in the late '80's in Austin. He was playing at Antones back when Clifford Antone was still alive. We were really early standing outside in front of the door, and we could hear him warm up with this song. He came out to smoke a cigarette and chatted with us for about 20 minutes. Really easy going guy. Of course by that time he'd been gigging for about 25 years, so I'm sure he'd done that a thousand times. I think he came out the front door to smoke instead of backstage just so he could talk to fans.

      @donwillis9103 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Saved me the trouble of looking that up. Gerald Johnson looks a lot like the bass player in Steve Miller band video this channel released. Its hard to tell because the camera really ignores the band and has a lot of close ups on Dave. I'm not even sure who is harmonizing, I assume the guitar player, but you never see his face. I'd guess they didn't have the budget for more camera angles.

@@gregoryduncan3067 It was just him and another guy. It could have been. Strangely, he opened for The Monkees. It was one of their reunion tours in late 80s. Steppenwolf played second, then The Monkees. Great show though.

"Mason was a friend of guitarist Jimi Hendrix, whose rock career was launched in England in 1966. Hendrix first heard the song "All Along the Watchtower", from Bob Dylan's album John Wesley Harding, with Mason at the apartment of a friend who had acquired a prior release of the album. Hendrix recorded his own version at Olympic Studios, South West London, with Mason playing 12-string acoustic guitar."

Beautiful harmony in this song - something completely absent in modern pop music for years. I can't say that even in the 70s it would have seemed like a good idea to paint all of our amps and a Hammond B-3 powder blue....

Great song and performance by this underrated songwriter. Would love see the other song he performed on this MS episode in 1977 "Let It Go, Let It Flow". He also was a guest host and performed 8 songs (including "Feelin' Alright" from his Traffic days) on the MS, Feb.07, 1975 Season 3, Ep.20. Please post some more Dave Mason songs from the Midnight Special. Thanks in advance.

Superstar was never in the cards for Mason. He was riding a wave of moderate popularity the entire decade of the 70s. Yet this great song did not even reach the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. He was in his 30s at this point (a bit old to be able to achieve superstar status) and did not have the "look" to sustain that level of interest. He did have a nice single release on his next album which crawled barely into the top 40 (probably the best version of "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" ever released). But radio was favoring disco at the time, so opportunities were limited.

Beautiful song, talented artist; what a shame he couldn't co-exist with Steve Winwood, Jim Capaldi and Chris Wood- what an incredible legacy they might have left, even beyond that they already created. Such is life though- this song fits that dynamic perfectly- I have to wonder if Jim Krueger was thinking of that when he wrote this song.
