Just discovered your channel and I must say you are easily my new favorite TH-camr. Obviously the topics covered are very interesting things that many of us are clueless about but are definitely curious to learn more. I’m sure you wish you had made it longer in the bigs but still sounds like you got to live your dream to an extent that 99 percent of us ever will. Great stuff my man keep up the good work!

Great to hear your stories and explanations. They bring me back to when I was a kid--nearly all American kids summertime was baseball time. When the family was piled into the car for some outing, I'd always look at the roadside lawns and fields, imagining if a baseball field could be put in there. Ted Williams was my idol... anyway, I sort of got other interests in my teenage years and after, but your talks have got my back into baseball and learning about the game that were never really talked about in Little League and Am Legion league. Thanks for the great talks.

I don't comment often on TH-cam but I love your anecdotes and your insight of the game that only other player has. Here's a thought for appoint discussion maybe you can talk about interactions you've had with umpires for players have had with umpires in the various levels baseball maybe they're more strict at the lower levels and more lenient at the higher levels or maybe vice versa. They're always such an easy convenient Target that to humanize them helps us better understand baseball.

  • @Mystninja

In club level as a catcher. I cut the elastic out and rolled my pants down. I hated them up. And I didn't wear club Sox. I had ankle Sox as it's to hot in Australia for long Sox's in catchers gear. But you do mess your legs up knee bent slides. But I liked head first unless I was steeling 3rd so I could hook slide (pop up) hoping for a over throw.

I’m a fairly new fan, I know the basics but how do you get into the in depth stuff? Like what all the different stats are? And the more advanced knowledge of baseball?
Like I don’t even know where or how to start learning about it...

    • @chihuahuaman7025
      @chihuahuaman7025 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Jake Boyce if you like video games I would strongly suggest buying a baseball video game. You will learn a lot about the game. Like why you throw a changeup after a fastball plus the stats are the same in a video game as in real life. Just a suggestion.

The insights you provide are interesting to me even though I am not a team sports type of person, though I did study some spirts medicine in a program at Wake Forest/Bowman-Gray. So my enjoyment from sports comes from either actually playing individual sports such as tennis, swimming, golf, track, bowling or being on the sidelines with players during games. But watching sports? Never been to a professional game of anything except sumo here in Japan.
BUT your insights are cool. So, could you maybe do a clip commenting your career in baseball as to whether or not it was what would be considered ‘typical’ for those talented players that actually make it to MLB as you did?

We get our specially made by the company that produces them. You should be able to find some online. I think most companies make them. Tougher if you just try to go to sporting good stores. Good luck! Thanks for watching and commenting!

The idea for making your player wear them up or down is seeing how a prospect will listen, also will they put the team above themselves. Kind of a silly thing on showing shock or not but we do the same thing in the military. We got showed one way to fold our cloths in boot camp. When they check your bunk if it’s not folded like that, you get shit until you correct it. I follow the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp here. They don’t have a rule about socks, would be surprised if that doesn’t change with Jeter ruining the Marlins. Great video!

  • @TonyM132

Does "wearing your pants up" mean rolling up longer pants, or wearing socks up over long pants, or just wearing shorter pants (like football pants)? I'd think shorter pants would be easier and more comfortable than the other two.

Hey Matt, do the players get a percentage of their jersey sales? Or do all of the profits from the sale of MLB jerseys go to MLB? I always wondered if in a players contract they received a flat amount or a percentage of their jersey sales. Thanks in advance and great job on the videos!

Speaking of shaving I worked for a company known as Boosterthon Enterprises, and they have a very strict clean shaven rule. I got yelled at for having what I thought at the time was hardly any facial hair, and they said hey that’s way too much you literally have to shave it all off now or we’ll write you up. They were very serious about it. I wonder if it’s connected to baseball because the founder of the company is a former baseball player

Can you talk about rules pertaining to what MLB players can't do in their free time - for example, activities that might be prone to injuries. The reason I ask, is that one of the Padres pitchers was being interviewed about what he likes to do in his free time, and he mentioned that he likes to play paintball, but he can't. The inference in the comment was that there is soemthing in his contract that specifies what he can't do in his free time. Is this true? And does it happen a case-by-case basis? After all, since the money is guaranteed, I would assume teams want some kind og guarantee that the guy making millions a year doesn't get a non-baseball related injury due to extra-curricular sports, etc.

I always figured it was different team to team. I mean they are referred to as “Clubs” for a reason. All different clubs have different rules. No Beards or no facial hair at all. Some just say no torn blue Jeans. But I think rules like that are great. I hate the Yankees but for some reason I think its cool that if you play there you have to keep ya hair cut and shave that beard!

I use to attend the Rivercats! I would purchase the flex plan, I think was what they called it, you would get 40 passes for the season and use them any game you wanted. It was a good time!
