Hearing all these stories about being a broke minor leaguer makes me kind of sad. The Columbus Clippers hang out at a bar/restaurant around the corner from my house. Next time I see them I'm going to buy them a round of beers. Need to do more to show those guys that we appreciate them.

I pitched from little league to highschool and at age 13 I played travel baseball for coaches that played college or pro. So I live in Georgia and nothing against recreational baseball but it's nothing compared to travel baseball because your playing against teams that are better than you are. So it pushes you to be better but I remember we would have a practice game at our home park but then we would have to be in Columbus Georgia for a tournament. But then when school was out for the summer we had a coach that was from Ohio but at one time that was in the Cincinnati Reds organization. So we would travel to places like Illinois, Indiana,, Florida and other places and so I never made it to the college or pro level but travel baseball gives you the feel of what it's like in going from town to town

Hi Matt, I caught Rick Sutcliffe in High School. KCMO Van Horn High School 1975-76. One game. I was the 1st baseman and back-up catcher. Rick went on to become NL Rookie of the Year and Cy Young 1984. Before your time. He was like 6'7" in HS! Our catcher wrenched his knee. Could not squat. I was a good HS player nothing else. Back-up catcher. No signs I did not know any. Rock and fire. One subject you have never addressed. The sound of a fastball near your ear. It hisses and buzzes. Like an angry hornet. It really does! CHIEFS!

Just wondering. When I was a kid the catchers started wearing the molded mask (the one that looks like a hockey goalies mask) And a lot of them had them painted with designs. John Buck's and Greg Zaunn's comes to mind. How come MLB changed that? I always thought it was so cool to see the different designs. A lot like the NHL goalies. Gave the players a bit of personality. Just wondering why the MLB doesn't allow that anymore.

How about stories of teammates getting into trouble on the road? Young men, lots of time, no "supervision" from the wife/girlfriend, and it just takes one suggestion from a teammate. I imagine you've some stories.

“Not eating at McDonald’s at midnight when you’re in the major leagues.” There’s actually a video a fan took of Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber, Albert Almora, Jr., and Jon Lester at a McD’s in Washington, DC after a game one night last year. It’s on the TMZ website. LOL. Not that there’s anything scandalous about it.

could you answer this -- what do the first baseman and baserunner usually talk about? They will always chit chat and I wondered what the hell the subject matter was.

What about guys that are very well known as far as them going out to eat after games? Do they go out by themselves or in groups? Or do they just go back to their room t eat in?
