"what solace lies in the arms of fate? The ill embrace of uncertainty.[...] Am I another of fate's possessions? Dwelling the lie of freedom . Just another straw pulled at random"....Chills dude, mfking chills
I feel like Tomas was in his physical prime here. He's always been an absolute monster, but he was extraordinary by even his standards during this performance. Effortless power and precision.
The last part with the melody is something unique. I've been going through a lot of shit lately and this song has helped me let out my anger and finish the song with a sort of peace. I let my emotions go at the end. It's tough but music helps.
Fuck...... the nature of " heavyniss" in "heavy metal" is something completely unique in this band.... once you get it its a pure headbanger. Love Meshuggah !
I'm fairly sure you're talking about the time signature. It does appear that the intro has riffs that repeat, but it's just that you're probably not able to catch the correct beat. Just concentrate a bit and try to find a pattern.
Gerard King what he's describing is definitely not syncopation. SuspAnimation is actually correct, although they're most often called polymeters (and even more often incorrectly called polyrhythms).
Andrew Suzuki Technically speaking, Meshuggah doesn't play polymeters. Meshuggah is almost always in 4/4. They simply arrange the riffs in such a way that they are either longer/shorter than a 4/4 measure, count the time in 4/4, and cycle the riffs until it ends at the end of a 4/4 measure. Technically, it COULD be played as a polymeter, but in all actuality, it's pretty much 100% 4/4 that just sounds like polymeters.
Justice4AllOne Ergh....not to be rude but maybe look up the definition of polymeters? Sure it's almost always in 4/4, but there's also almost always a superimposed melody that could be notated in another time signature. Had this argument so many times, might as well go ahead and post the stinger. a music theorist/analyst's chapter on the polymeters of Meshuggah: www.scribd.com/doc/6375990/Re-casting-Metal-Rhythm-and-Meter-in-the-Music-of-Meshuggah See page 222 for a transcription of Rational Gaze, for example.
+Justice4AllOne You say they don't do polymeters and then describe polymers in your comment. Superimposing musics of different time signatures is the definition of a polymeter.
Not one of Fredriks finest moments... the first section of the solo was fuckin horrendous, total miss timing... rest was bang on... was it about this time he walked away from touring?
The end passage of this song is a thing of beauty
+Nasty McNastypants
Ive always said that this is one of my favorite moments in music. I want that riff playing as my body is lowered into the ground.
***** good choice
I'm gonna have them play Who Let the Dogs Out by Baja Men.
+Nasty McNastypants killed by death - motörhead
The ending is F dorian. For once, Meshuggah sticked to a single scale !
It's seriously fucked up, yes.
they all have such a perfect stage presence for their music
so much ! meshuggah ftw
Meshuggah are metal gods
Probably some of the most genius lyrics ever written. There isn't a God damn person that couldn't relate to this song.
the last two minutes of this song sound like tears falling
"what solace lies in the arms of fate? The ill embrace of uncertainty.[...] Am I another of fate's possessions?

4:17, Jens never dissapoints
If the most important thing on stage is to feel the music without having to care what other people think of you, you have achieved happyness.

When i heard this back in 2008 i felt the same way, and it still helps me through alot
Keep trucking brother.
Hope you're still going strong. That last bend in the solo sends me somewhere else.
I let it all out until the end and then I cry and it feels better.
Tomas Haake amazes me... That impeccable timing and the way he slays that crash cymbol... Incredible
My favourite song of Meshuggah, atleast top 3. So hard to pick one :D
Favourite guitar solo ever. So much soul.
Normally I HATE growling, but this guy nails the intensity most growlers aim for..and misses..
Same

This snare is beatiful.
That snare doe 🔥
This song has just got to be the heaviest thing in the known universe. It's absolutely fucking ridiculous when it kicks in at 1:12.
My colleague at work listens to heavy metal. He doesn't understand TOOL and Meshuggah. I don't understand him... (actually I do..)
That guitar part is a level above epicness and a level below simplicity.
And thus was Meshuggah borne, all hail.
fuck yes i could listen to this song any day and feel like a champ afterward
I love the soft mood this band generates..
If I actually accomplished a show like that, I don't think I'd sleep for 3 days.
This song makes me cry at the end... No, I'm not that emotional. It's THAT good!
That’s how emotions work…
The Faceless supporting Meshuggah... it must have sublime! Second only to Meshuggah supporting Tool on the Lateralus tour. JOY.
The Faceless and Cynic!
Спасибо)))вам ребята)))
This song is everything

Group stimming starts in 5 minutes
You mean the time signature?

720p Fuck yeah!
SuspAnimation "Over the bar patter?" Syncopated rhythm.
It's not called over the bar pattern it's called a syncopated rhythm.
