This is the first video I've seen on a TH-cam channel highlighting the importance of promoting yourself.

So, to recap... It's social presence over athletic achievement, punishing non-english speaking athletes for their limited reach, crazy expensive participation fees that enrich the organizers instead of trickling down to participants, very tough qualification criteria for most serious races unless you can pay to play or have enough influence to be invited. And people should just take it as it is, accepting that social skills are more important than lifetime devotion to the sport of running, accepting that you need to somehow become an influencer, regardless of your social skills, and all of that in your spare time - between running 10-20 or more hours a week, working on a job that's supposed to pay for your equipment, transport, accommodation and participation fees, and your family/social life. Wow.

This makes running more attractive for me. Influencers are annoying.

Given the amount of money Nike turn over, it is scandalous how little they pay their athletes.

The nature of distance sport itself if being humble, that is the main reason. The majority of the people in this sport are concentrating on themselves and harmony around (quietness) due to the nature of the sport. Even Kipchoge does not do it on himself, he has a media team.
Imagine covering +100miles (say, 3h running a day) a week and still having energy and drive to work with socials!

Pretty much this. You'll also notice that as for the examples, there's a clear divide between the boisterous, social media using western athletes and the humble africans but athletes are not paid to be humble, they are paid in proportion to the money they allow their higher ups and brands to earn which favour noise, personality, and rivalries because those are what gets them the most money.
When the paris olympics was going on, I was watching with some of my friends and when the 100m semi was on, they didnt know anyone there but all recognised noah lyles from tiktok, yt shorts, and the world champ basketball comment, yes literally tiktok "i've seen him, he's so fun", "when does noah next race?", the personality is what brings the viewers and the humble africans simply either don't have one or will never show it because it's so unnatural for them to do that in front of a camera

How do you think that Runners got by when it was all Strictly Amateur. You talk about Runners not getting all that much in Remuneration for even running some crazy time between 2 Hours, 2 Minutes and 2 Hours, 7 Minutes, so what about the rest of the field which, in some Marathons, can be in The Tens of Thousands. You probably summed it up somewhat when you said that The Marathon is Not Fun to Watch, it does not Entice Drama, an incredible duel to the purist, but unfortunately a cure for Insomnia for the many. Anyway I
reckon that these crazy times that are being recorded are starting to Plateau, these Runners are not machines, they are vulnerable human-beings subject to Leg Injuries due to the impossible work-load and, frighteningly, even problems with the ever fragile Cardiovascular System. The Viewers, The Spectators, want High Risk in The Gladiatorial Mould, Huge Collisions, Big Hits, but even very High-Risk Acrobatics will get a Guernsey, this is The Adrenalin Hit, this is The Fun, this is The High Drama, but The System itself needs this to because The Dullards watching will then no longer question or think about The System’s
often Predatory, often Corrupt, and often exceedingly unfair ways. But if you want Elite Runners to become Quasi Vaudeville Acts to bring in a few more Dollars, then you can Count
me out. Professional Collision Sports and other Sports that are exceedingly dangerous are really just an Invitation to commit assault, either directly or indirectly, on opponents, they are simply predatory, full stop. Running is the Antithesis of this, it will always be because it had Class and is Civilised, this is just another phase that the Market Takeover of Sport in general
has engendered, like all Phases, it will pass, but Running itself will forever endure.
      P

@@RobertConnell-f9k I guess remuneration will be higher when those athletes will be more known from social media. Imagine that posting one image or short clip 2-3 times a week would make them more popular and fun to follow. Then followers = more contracts with sponsors. Posting an image on isntagram is not that time consuming and those people from top do not need to think about something special. So biggest events would like to have those top athletes with a lot of followers to be running in their event so they will try to convince them with what? Money?

With all due respect, I think you're confusing runners who have a (probably personal) account with social media content creators who "by the way" run.
Besides, I haven't been to Africa, but I wouldn't be surprised if internet in Ethiopia isn't that wide spread as in Europe or in the US.
